pbx2 got a reaction from ★ Coups ★ in What cablemod do I need for this GPU cable?
The braided one equivalent will be just an 8 pin, That's a 6+2 which only exists so that power supply manufacturers can save money and cater for two different connectors with the same cable.

    Example from my computer:

Pretty much all motherboards with the same chipset use about the same amount of power, If you want the one that uses the least you should look for the one with the least features. (no lighting, no wifi, no 2.5/10gbit ports etc)

Asrock B450m Pro 4 is generally one of the better cheap boards, MSI tomahawk if you want less shitty fan control

Correct, I'm not sure what kit you have but just make sure it isn't an EPS 8 pin, The PCI one will fit very easily whereas the EPS one will not.

pbx2 got a reaction from jaslion in I only have a 8pin GPU cable and need a 8+6 for new graphics card
Buy a new power supply, If your power supply doesn't have two 8 pins it probably doesn't have the rated output to power a card that needs them.

I use a 27 inch monitor on my computer with a 34 inch TV next to me (so i have some sort of sense of scale), The 27 inch is more than big enough and unless you're sitting further away, The 32 inch will cause you neck problems in the long run. - Or at the very least you'll be having to move your head around to see the screen.

Asus's G14 sounds like a good option to take a look at, It's well priced and has almost everything you want.

    - Good battery
    - 1440p screen (the high refresh one isn't so great and has poor response time so i'd miss it)
    - Good keyboard
    - An actually nice design
    - A superb CPU
    - Light and thin compared to other laptops with similar performance

The only negatives seem to be that you'll need to wait a few weeks for the release and you'll have to live with no Home and End keys

Sorry I seem to have skimmed over your post a bit too fast and I missed your bit about the G14 already but still, It's probably the best option at the moment - Especially with LG and Dell going the Intel route with the latest Gram and XPS.

pbx2 reacted to evernessince in Monitor Overclocking - Is it Safe?
I know this thread is old but I have to point out that this is just wrong.  When components are made manufacturers have to decide on a standard clock, frequency, what have you for every component to use.  For example all reference R9 290 video cards have the exact same core clock and memory clock even though each card can technically achieve different clocks.  The same of course applies to monitors and each one should have a different maximum.  Increasing some arbitrary number forced unto every panel is not going to reduce the life of a monitor.  What could reduce the life of a monitor, as previously mentioned, is heat and higher than expected voltages.  There is only so much you can overclock most monitors as they are not designed to be overclocked.  They don't used super-high end power delivery systems with a large amount of headroom like video cards do.  So long as you respect that, most monitors can get away with a small overclock with absolutely no negative impact.

pbx2 reacted to Hunched in Monitor Overclocking - Is it Safe?
I've never seen actual proof of overclocking reducing lifespan of anything if voltages and temperatures aren't extreme.
So as long as those are reasonable, as far as I'm concerned you can overclock anything and it won't have any lifespan impact, and if it does it would be minute.

People say overclocking reduces lifespan, yet there's people with full throttle GPU's and CPU's for 5+ years without issue, because they keep their temps and voltages in recommended and safe operating ranges.
My 4690k has been at a fixed voltage and clock for a year and a half now, with no stability or performance decrease, nor ever requiring more voltage for stability, it's still like day 1.
Figured I'd figure out for myself if it would destroy its lifespan since nobody actually has any proof of anything anywhere, just assumptions of "common sense", which isn't good enough for me to agree.
I'm sure it will hurt its lifespan more than not, but we could be talking like a 0.1% impact. Nobody has an actual fucking clue.

Haven't had my monitor OC'd for too long, but its not really hot and I didn't adjust any timing from defaults, literally changed 1 setting, so it shouldn't really have any impact at all.
As long as temps and voltages are reasonable and it's stable, the sky is the limit for anything.

You definitely don't always need the enterprise GPUs for at least proxmox, I've seen plenty of people able to pass through stuff like 1060s.
Proven to work with the newer 5xxx/xt gpus on proxmox as well as unraid.
I've seen a few people using the RX4xx/5xx GPUs on it as well.

Yes, any 3/4 ton or above can do just the same.

I'll give it this. Not that I want to go pod racing with any of my vehicles. Though all-terrain tires will limit how fast you can go.

I'm running an Asus B450MA Prime Motherboard and I'm trying to activate the XMP profile but it just will not work. I have followed many tutorials very closely and it goes well until it comes down to rebooting. When I go to reboot, the PC just doesn't output any display and I have to reset the BIOS which completely gets rid of all of my settings. If someone could help me with this, that would be very much appreciated.

I'll stick with Steam for the time being, I won't support a company that makes exclusivity deals just for the sake of getting more customers. Very anti consumer in my opinion, with all that fortnite money they could work on making a better launcher than steam is.

pbx2 reacted to TheInfinityBacon in Steam vs. Epic
Personally, I feel that Steam offers more for the consumer, with features like:
Family Sharing (buy once for the entire family, with separate save files) Steam Workshop (user mods) Steam In-Home Streaming (download once, use on multiple PC's, or use a remote PC to run a game and stream video to less powerful one) Big Picture Mode (Console like control) Good controller support VR Dominance Steam Box, Controller, and VR Headset
I also don't like the look of the Epic Games store, but that is just my personal taste. I understand many like it.

While Steam does take a larger cut from game developers, they also are using those funds to create features for the users, and even dedicated hardware. The Epic Games store just seems like a place to earn money, while Steam seems like a place for the consumers to have their way.
