  1. I've set the RAM to 2666 MHz and the system hasn't crashed so far (Fingers crossed). But I think I'm leaving performance on the table without RAM overclock What could be causing the issue?
  2. I put the RAM at 2666 CL14 and tried Prime95. Temps were 60 ish in first 5-10 min, but after 58 min it normalized to 69 C. The CPU core voltage is 1.368 Volt by default, is that high?
  3. running open bench, last time I checked with Prime95 it was 60ish. Almost twice now, the system has crashed within 2 minutes of booting. Should I try another XMP profile?
  4. Hay, my specs are as follows - PSU - Cooler Master Thunder 450 Watts CPU - Ryzen 7 2700 (stock cooler) Mobo - MSI B450i gaming plus ac GPU - Asus ROG Strix RX 570 4GB RAM - 2 * 8gb Ballistix, using XMP profile 2993mhz, CL14 Storage - Samsung Evo 860 280GB Windows 10 About the crashes - I've noticed that using OC Gaming feature of my motherboard (not manual overclock) can occasionally cause my system to crash a few minutes after booting up. After the crash the CPU debug led on my motherboard lights up and it doesn't restart directly, I have to reset the computer manually. The mobo OC clocks my CPU to 3.6 Ghz (from the stock 3.2GHz). The restart usually fixes the issue, but today it kinda persisted. Just disabling the OC gaming feature didn't lead to any crash. I'm using the XMP profile of my RAM though it's rated for 3000Mhz so I don't think that's the issue. So, I think manually overclocking would be a nice start. But the CPU LED is kinda throwing me off. I believe I installed it correctly and admittedly I had bit of problem when mounting the cooler (had to use more force than I'm comfortable with) but that seemed to be the case for the stock Wraith Spire cooler. Could it be possible that my PSU is the culprit, or is it the OC? It's an old unit, around 7 years old I believe. I was considering getting a new 750 watt, modular PSU but I have to save up for that, as majority of my budget was spent on the components themselves lol. Running my PC in open-test bench style with support for the heavy GPU.
  5. I'm pretty certain the laptop will be usable for browsing and word processing if it is running Linux. Linux is lighter than Windows and it's free as well. Give it a go, it'll make your laptop usable.
  6. You have a non K processor, so getting a motherboard which supports overclocking... is kinda pointless
  7. What will you be using the rig for? If streaming or editing, I'd strongly suggest getting Ryzen. Other wise seems solid to me.
  8. Hay fellas. My laptop, Acer Aspire E15 didn't come with windows (had linpus linux), and I installed Windows 10 Enterprise trial (Version 15xx something, the one just before anniversary edition came out) into it. Things were working good, and all the drivers worked as they should be. Gaming was a breeze (thanks to nVidia 940M), and though the laptop ran warm, it is well worth the price. When I installed the Anniversary Update (Home edition, clean install), my laptop would come to a crawl when I played certain games, like GTA V and Battlefield 1, and also Premiere Pro (I didn't even edit anything, just opening the app made my computer slow). Turns out, there is an ntoskrnl bug which insanely starts the HDD when specific apps are started (for god knows what reason) and it hogs all the HDD for itself, making the whole computer slow. I tried a few measures, like setting HDD state to Active, but it didn't help me. I even installed a Insider Preview and used the Game Mode, but that didn't resolve my issue. So people, now I'm back on the same old version of windows which worked well, and I want to install the Creators update and see if the issue is resolved. I was wondering, can I install the Home version of Windows 10 alongside my Enterprise Installation, and switch back to Enterprise if things are not sorted?
  9. True. Running Witcher III on 4gb ram makes the whole game sluggish.
  10. Maybe. But I've seen videos of people running BF1 on low 720p and getting 30-40fps.
  11. I know that, but it worked just fine on Enterprise edition! Why wouldn't it run on Home edition??
  12. I second this. If you can't open it yourself, find someone who can. Blow out the dust with compressed air, don't use a vacuum cleaner. If you can't get compressed air, wipe with clean, dry, anti-static cloth. A microcloth would do fine too.
  13. If your laptop is still covered under warranty, I suggest you head to the nearest service center!
  14. I have an Acer Aspire E15, it has i5 4210M, 4gb RAM, 1tb HDD, and 940m (2gb ddr3). It didn't ship with windows as I already had a copy. Turned out, the copy I had was Enterprise edition. I installed it anyway, and the laptop word as expected, and all the games that I played (GTA V, Dirt RALLY, Skyrim) all worked smoothly at reasonable settings (around 720p, medium). When I installed the Windows 10 Home edition, Skyrim and Dirt works fine, but as soon as I start playing GTA V, the whole game gives me massive framedrops (15-10 fps from steady 40). The game settings doesn't seem to matter with regard to frame drop - at 1080p low, the game runs at 30fps, but after sometime the same thing happens. I'm experiencing similar issue with Battlefield 1. Looking at the task manager when I'm playing the game, I observed that System was taking waay too much of HDD, and the framedrop correlates to the increase in System activity. When I right click and select properties, it shows the name ntoskrnl.exe which I suspect is the culprit. Basic googling suggested that I update all my drivers, the network card in particular, but it didn't help in my case. Enterprise ran the games decently, I wonder what the problem with Home version is!!! Any suggestion guys??
