You might've had PC building lessons in your IT classes but no-one that I know and myself included never had those lessons. In IT lessons in secondary schools kids learn about office applications and very basic things about computers themselves, they never even go near the insides of an actual computer in class.

College it becomes a little different. Depending on the course you'll have a class that features PC component / building lessons but for the majority of IT courses you wont, and I'd hope that someone doing IT in colleges would know at the very least basic PC building knowledge.

Take a look at event viewer to see if there's anything there first. it could show up with something that isn't linked to the OC.

What software are you using to play music and what other programs do you have open?

Has it ever crashed like that before you did the OC?

If you can, throw a small SSD for a boot drive in there and you'll probably have a performance increase and the decreases that come from the future will be minimal until your hardware actually starts dying.

Just a heads up, if you don't care about going for brand new parts you could try to pick up something like a used 980TI, used ones seem to be going for around the same price as the RX 580 and offers slightly better performance. If you don't trust used hardware however I'd 100% go with a RX 580.

100% GPU usage is normal when paired with 100% CPU usage. It means you don't have a bottleneck'd GPU or CPU. In OPs case they're getting 50% CPU usage and 100% GPU usage meaning the GPU is bottlenecking their CPU.

Thought it would be fun to make a topic about, all of our experiences with all the people, who doesn't really understand all the tech.
Note: Don't make this too harsh on them. You need to help them, not yell at them.
    I'll go first:
So my mom has a daycare. And one day I am sitting on the floor with my laptop. And one of the kids, with real dirty hands come and put his hand on the screen. Guess he thought it was a touch screen. Still haven't gotten it off, and it was 3 months ago.
My grandmother is scared of getting rid of the computer, because she thinks it will cut the power to her house.

so this one time I was hanging out with my friend who is the manager at a tech shop by where I live and a girl comes in and buys a 2tb hard drive. we let her know that we install hard drives for $1 (the cost of the sata cable we use) and she says "just because I am a woman does not mean I cant work on computers" and leaves in a huff. two days later she comes back in saying that the HDD is not working so we take the computer in to look at it, we open it and the HDD is nowhere to be seen, so we ask her where it is. and it turns out that she scanned it and put the scanned image on her desktop to install the drive. and to top that off she threw away the drive she paid almost $200 for and she wanted us to give her a new one.

My little brother used to think that the more data you store on an HDD, the heavier the component gets. He also thought that if you pivot the monitor clockwise during a transfer of files or an installation, it would go faster because the gravity would help the loading bar fill faster...^^
