This is such a bad take. And it was recorded a month ago. Go spend your energy somewhere else.

Not only that but you clearly wrote an essay without understanding how to write an essay. You can't claim "Linus claims normal monitors do eye damage!!!!" When they dispute those claims in the video. Seriously, just such a bad take.

suits reacted to moatmote in Yet more misleading reporting from LTT. (And still no transparent issue tracker to report these things.)
The recent video on the Dasung E Ink monitor starts with a misleading intro that heavily implies permanent eye damage might result from using traditional monitors:
    This does two things:
It sets the tone of the video as either "This display, due to the nature of E Ink, may be the aforementioned 'solution'. Let's find out if it is." which could also be interpreted as "Dasung claims that this display, due to the nature of E Ink, is the aforementioned 'solution'. Let's test that claim." It suggests that there may be a link between light-emitting displays and permanent eye damage. Despite this, for the bulk of the remainder of the video, the claim above is never really put to the test until this chapter at the very end (aptly labeled "Contesting their claims"):
However, the well-informed or critically thinking among you may have already caught the problem with this section: It doesn't actually answer the questions they asked at the begining. Are traditional monitors permanently damaging your vision and is E Ink the "better solution"? All they've done here is establish that E Ink doesn't help with nearsightedness and digital eye strain.

The problem is that most people aren't going to catch this distinction. To most people watching this, the intro told them that something about light-emitting displays could permanently damage their eyes, and then asked if E Ink was the solution to this. Then, the chapter quoted above answered that question with a definitive "No, it's not just light-emitting displays. E Ink is not the 'solution'.", while talking a whole lot about "digital eye strain" all of a sudden. This directly correlates (in most people's minds) "digital eye strain" with "permanent eye damage", which is extremely misleading, as there is zero evidence that supports any correlation between the two.

Now to see if this post becomes popular enough that this is seen as an issue worth addressing. I'll end this with a quote of my own words, since even after all the recent controversy, a popularity contest (either here, on other socials, or in YouTube comments) is still the only way for your "community" to get issues in front of staff post-publishing.

tl;dr open a public issue tracker.

Edit because people love to read what they want to read instead of what I wrote:
How have you entirely missed the point? I never claimed that LTT claimed that light from monitors permanently hurt your eyes. I said that the statement sets an expectation for an answer in the video. And by not actually directly addressing those "what if"s in the conclusion, and instead answering a slightly different question, it's very easy for the layman to conflate the two.

After watching the intro, it's not hard to imagine that many people will be thinking "Oh I wonder if light from monitors is actually a problem that could lead to permanent vision damage and if E Ink is the answer. Let me keep watching to find out!" And upon hearing "E Ink still causes eye strain" at the end, reaching the conclusion "Oh they said E Ink still causes eye strain because of <stuff about focusing>, so the light wasn't the culprit and both technologies could lead to permanent damage to my vision because they both cause digital eye strain."

Is that a logically sound conclusion? No. Is that the conclusion this video baits people towards? Yes.

The clickbait titles were a necessary evil LMG went with and there was big discussion about the whys by linus and luke a while back when they did it.

There really is no need to re-hash this issue that was debated a few years ago.

Taran collaborated that she needed more ram,
Colin collaborated that they often made technical errors,
Just because she indeed needed to tweet 3 times a day, needed more ram, and LTT made technical errors doesn't mean the allegations about sexual harassment were collaborated.

LTT has no direct control over the Reddit subforum. They are likely implementing restrictions so that new users do not come in and flood the site with arguments.

The LTT Forums, on the other hand are hosted by LMG, but are run entirely by volunteers and are not officially LMG staff. We allow all criticisms, discussions and comments so long as they are civil and follow the Community Standards.

Doing a WAN show and talking about anything that's happened would be a disaster, and doing one while just ignoring the elephant(s) in the room would be ridiculous, so I would hope they would take at least a week off.

Keep in mind the accuracy issues LMG is already under fire for. Part of the scope of being a Social Media coordinator is trying to address that stuff before it is allowed out in the open. Part of the job also involves being a middleman (middlewoman?) between the community and the company. In the event bad info is already out there, the SM coordinator needs to identify the problem, collate complaints, pass it on to the appropriate departments, receive instructions/information to disseminate to the community, etc.

It probably was a huge workflow. Not insurmountable for someone experienced in media/PR. But a brand new girl just entering the work force? That's some unrealistic expectations. Whomever hired her, and then chose to retain her after the probationary period, made mistakes. Her pursing the job, and then choosing to stay for as long as she did was also a mistake. But that's a mistake we've all made, especially when we're young and dumb.

Part of me hopes this goes the way of a defamation suit at this point. It'll either either prove Madison right, prove her wrong, or (what I expect) be a muddy mess of something in the middle. Now that the accusation is out in the open, it's a question that needs to be answered. This isn't something that the court of Social Media/Public Opinion can definitively decide.

That's the only part of GN's video that I thought was mostly nonsense. 200k in framework is literally an "I support this" amount. The noctua screwdriver I could see, but it's something so easy to tell if it's a bad review it's meh at best.

Those saying this framework investment clouds judgement I just don't understand the thought.

At some point these things need to get fixed, the communication layers need to get better, or something major has to change.
