M30x need replacement pads if you don't want ear cancer. No idea how comfortable the other headphones are, though the Sennheiser 4XX series is typically pretty average.

K612 are a much better option. Unless you have a stupid loud aircon, ANC while indoors is pretty damn useless.
K612's will have a lot better imaging and soundstage, and straight up more raw detail.
Why not just keep both your AKG and the QC35? Use one for home and one for travel. Repairing a headphone is typically incredibly easy if you have patience and remotely any skill with a soldering iron.

At that price you'd want to get an audio interface and an XLR mic. I have no real suggestions for either, but I figured I'd at least give you the right direction to be looking in if you're not already.

    Moist_Sock got a reaction from POSIX23 in M40x vs m50x
M50x have heavy low end, and stupidly sibilant highs. I can use 668B's that I modded to be open as hell, and are insanely sibilant for about an hour before my ears hurt too much, and the M50x somehow manage to top that. I don't get it. Very few other people seem to have this problem either.

M40x are much closer to neutral. Low end extension is better in my opinion, but that may just be the low end swamp of the M50x making it hard to really hear. Soundstage is better on the M40x too, though neither are particularly wide.

Both have god-awful stock pads. Swap them with HM5 pleather. Velours make the highs even worse on the M50x. Didn't try them with M40x as they weren't available at the time. The pads widen the sound-stage to a reasonable level too.

Any of the AT-ADX series for purely gaming. AD700x is within your budget. Go to headphone for positional audio.
DT 880's if you want them for general media consumption as well.
Modhouse Argons are also an option. Incredible imaging, especially for a nearly closed headphone.

    I didn't.

    I wasn't suggesting that.

I know, but as I said, you can't get consistent audio with a simple speaker set-up in an entire room. They're designed for one particular spot. You aren't standing/sitting in one spot the entire time when using a gym.

They're speakers that are gimped from the get go. They're in housings that are usually far too small due to them usually being positioned under a television, and they've rarely got proper porting, and are often made out of low quality plastic, or just poorer quality in general.

They're purely marketing. A good set of bookshelves turned sideways gives you better sound if you really need a center source.

If you don't change sound drivers often, you can right click and hide disabled drivers.

I don't know why you want to remove them though. They do literally no harm other than making you scroll down a bit.

M50x are probably one of the worse headphones you can choose for gaming. They have almost no soundstage, and the mids are quite recessed. The stock pads are god-awful as well. Their imaging is decent, but so are most closed headphones in that budget.
You'd be better off getting M40x and Brainwavz HM5 replacement pads. Keeps the same design and raw sound quality as M50x, reduces the stupidly sibilant highs down to bearable levels, and the rest of the response is actually damn close to neutral for a closed back.
They're cheaper too, so even with the replacement pads [which you absolutely need unless you want ear death in long gaming sessions] you'd be getting a better deal than M40x. The replacement pads widen the soundstage considerably too, as they're much thicker than the stock ones.

That said, you should still be looking at open headphones like the AT-ADX series, or even 5XX series, if you don't live in a noisy environment.

Have you actually tried them? I thought I would hate them due to prior experience with some Superlux, but when I put my friends on, they were actually really damn nice. The headphone is so light that it really doesn't make much of an impact.

I'll just compare them entirely for you.
558 have slightly wider soundstage, and a slightly less rolled off low end. 558 will have more forward mids, and less bright highs.
9500 pads are hit or miss. I personally hated them, but other people love them. Build quality on the 9500's is a fair bit better.
Raw sound quality is about the same.

save the money and get the OG clouds or the cloud core, the sound will be the same, but you get longer cables and you don't get that shitty USB sound card. Also that USB sound card seem to break often...

Cloud cores are "good quality audiophile headphones". They originally were designed as proper headphones by a company called Takstar, which Kingston took the licence for and manufactured the same thing and slapped a mic and paint on em. Research the Takstar Pro 80

As someone with who owns 668B's and someone who has used SR850's, the Cloud Cores are better than the 668b's by a fair shot, and are a different experience to SR850's.

Tape, and foam tape are two entirely different things. Your statements are so vague and lacking in detail that you're just confusing both yourself and others.

The enclosure is entirely different. They didn't take a 598 and put fucking tape on it. They will have also physically tuned the sound with materials, which is hard to do on your own without a measurement rig.
