  1. Yeah I just have an SSD. So I should/could change my power settings so that after some period of inactivity, it hibernates, rather than just sleeping? If I leave programs open, I'd like for those to stay open when I resume using the computer and I think hibernating will close them? I'm not home at the moment so I can't test it.
  2. lol yeah of course, but having poor circulation > being social with roommates. Does the stock cooler make any difference compared to an aftermarket cooler? Either way the cpu is producing the heat and the cooler is dispelling it into the air with heatsinks/fans
  3. I assume there's nothing I can do about this but I wanted to check just to be sure...my case (S340 elite) has a power button that blinks while the computer is in sleep mode, is there a way to make the button stop blinking? I could unplug the power led cables from the mobo I suppose but I do like having the button lit up when I'm using the pc.
  4. Welp I thought that people were joking when they equated computer parts to being space heaters, but nope...totally accurate. I just built my first desktop pc with an RX 480 and an i7 7700. My room is noticeably warmer than the rest of the house when I keep the door shut, probably at least 5 degrees warmer. Just something I'll have to get used to I suppose. Do other people have this same issue too?
  5. Really doesn't matter, whatever gives me the best connection for the lowest price while maintaining that performance over time. Seems like some people online have had their motherboard wifi cut out after some time and had to buy an adapter anyway. But, this has also happened with people that owned adapters so maybe its a moot point.
  6. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157746 ASRock Z270 Killer SLI $20-30
  7. Is it worth it to get a motherboard with wifi built in? My living situation prevents me from having a wired LAN connection so I need wifi either through an adapter or through the motherboard. The motherboard with wifi is ~$30 more than one without. Wifi adapters start at $10 but I kinda assume that the $10 dollar adapters are shit. Can anyone recommend a wifi adapter if you think I shouldn't get the motherboard?
  8. What do you mean? They're both Kingston. Am I missing something?
  9. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820242401 ($126.70) vs. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820242259&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker, LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= ($149.99) I'm planning on buying the first one because it seems to be well priced, it looks classy(important to me), and I think Kingston is a reputable brand. My only hesitation is that it has no reviews on Newegg. The second one is similar and does have reviews....and it looks like the only difference is that the second, more expensive one is slightly faster? Any help would be appreciated. Is the first one a good buy?
  10. I'd recommend upgrading your cpu + mobo, and ram Edit: Buying a new GPU would also help, but it wouldn't help much in the long term if you're dealing with a cpu bottleneck.
  11. Though its a different kind of game, I think that Cities: Skylines is STUNNING after adding aesthetic improving steam workshop items to your game. Not the best of course but deserves a mention. I'm a nerd for cities so maybe I'm biased.
  12. Also, other people can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that buying a GTX 1070 is a good idea if you only buy a 1080p monitor. To me that seems like too much performance at that resolution, the gains over something cheaper would probably not be noticeable.
  13. PC Part Picker will be your best resource. That website lets you pick what parts you want for each aspect of the computer and will filter out things that incompatible with what you already have. For you, I would start with an i5 7600 as the processor, and maybe something like the RX 480 as your GPU. These two things will be your most expensive parts.
