  1. it has two 8pins. my psu comes with PCIe cables that split a few times. Into a Y, where each connector is a (6+2). With one cable i can power two 8 pins. I also tried using two Cables and only using 1 of each of their (6+2) connectors. it powers up in both instances, a green light near the power turns on, the LEDs turn on and pulse, and the fans turn on but i always get a black screen.
  2. this machine never had a dedicated gpu in it. the gpu showed up in the mail today. the bios by default seems to have Video Output set to PCIe 1. So i assume it has always been checking for a dedicated GPU then reverting to Onboard Graphics. -------------- Would I need to download Drivers before inserting the GPU into a PCIe slot? Will Nvidia's Generic Drivers work with 3rd Party Venders? or should i go find Zotacs Drivers?
  3. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZvVqgL this is my build. it works perfectly without the Graphics Card. the cpu and ram overclock easily, but the moment i turn it on with the graphics card in, i only get black screens. How would a Graphics card be installed Normally? i ask because all the videos i see, everything magically works without any explanation of what should be done when stuff goes wrong. And right now everything is going wrong and i need to know why quickly so i can return it if the GPU is DOA.
  4. New issue. its in the first pcie slot, I'm using one cable to fill all 16 pins, using the hdmi and the screen is black when I turn it on. the system never had a graphics card in it, I've been using the cpu's internal graphics thing... not sure what to do
  5. So use both cables, only plugging in 1 (6+2) from each cable?
  6. I'm still new to building Pc and I'm trying to avoid ruining the gpu. my power supply comes with 2 PCIE cables. Each cable splits into two 6+2 connectors. So there is enough connectors for the 16pins needed on the gpu, but would it be better to use 2 separate cables and only plug in One 6+2 connector from each. Its a zotac gtx1080 amp edition, which configuration is best?
  7. I installed windows 10 with just the PNY SSD, now I'm trying to add a 1tb HDD. a bunch of youtube videos say to go to Disk Management and it should be there... but it isn't. How do I go about making it a normal hard drive? Gonna try to redirect stuff to it so the SSD only has the OS and Programs.
  8. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sXnGd6 Intel Core i5-7600K Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory I have the F20 Gigabyte motherboard Bios Update on a USB flash drive in the off colored usb port and connected to a monitor via usb. When I turn it on the monitor does nothing, the fans turn on, the debug screen on the motherboard runs through a bunch of numbers and stops at 55. Then it restarts over and over. When i looked up the Error Code 55 apparently it means its a Memory Problem, that either the Memory isnt connected properly, is to fast, the cpu isnt working, or cpu isnt seated properly. I think im running into two of those, the Ram is Pre-Overclocked and the Motherboard needs a bios update before it can work with the CPU. I have another computer with an i5-6400 and 2133mhz ram. Should I swap out the Ram and see if it works? then swap out the CPU to update the Bios? Should I setup ram overclocking settings before I put the 3000mhz ram back in? Im in unknown territory.
  9. >_> im having the same problem. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sXnGd6 Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 ATX LGA1151 Kaby Lake, Intel Core i5-7600K When I turn it on it just loops. the debug display goes through a bunch of numbers and stops at 55. It never goes to the Bios. From some Googling apparently 55 means either there is a memory problem or the cpu isnt contacting the memory for one reason for another (insufficient pressure on the cpu, bent pins, or wrong bios). I dont have a Skylake CPU readily available... since Im upgrading from a Q6600 from Dell... many years ago. I have the F20 Bios Update on a USB in the odd colored USB port, but nothing ever happens. What kind of wording should I look for in the Manual to determine if I can run the Bios without a CPU? I dont know what I should be looking for. Manual: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5480#manual Bios: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5480#bios
  10. Would this also work? Im currently using Windows 10 after getting the Free Upgrade last year. Upgrading from Windows 8 that I bought. If install Window 10 Home on my New Computer can I use the Windows 8 key to Activate Windows 10?
  11. In the next day or so I'm gonna install either Home or Pro on a new computer. Whenever I google or ask anyone I never get a straight answer that makes any sense. Its pretty much only going to be running Chrome, Games, and occasionally Stream. I'm getting a key from Kinguin, so they are going to be the same price. Every youtuber I've seen installs Pro, but why? Which version has better performance? Why would I want one over the other?
  12. around 150 for the motherboard. what makes it great?
  13. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8CsH7h these are the parts I currently have or plan to buy soon. Trying to get parts that will last, while leaving room for upgrades and safe overclocking. Im new to this stuff so... I was going to buy an ASUS Z170-E LGA 1151 Intel Z170 motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132691 but then I heard from Jayz2cents that those Chokes and other things doing phase changes or something are imporant if I dont want to set my computer on fire..... So what should i be looking for? what motherboards should i look into? I dont know what i dont know at this point. trying to have a stable overclocked computer that isnt on fire... Im primarily going to use it for gaming. id expect future upgrades to be new gpu's, bunch of hdds, more ram, maybe an i7 overclocked.
  14. Went with this after seeing reviews. both would have been overkill for the system im gonna build Corsair RMx 750w https://pcpartpicker.com/product/9q38TW/corsair-power-supply-cp9020092na And the fan doesnt turn on until under load, which might be nice. http://www.corsair.com/en-us/rmx-series-rm750x-750-watt-80-plus-gold-certified-fully-modular-psu http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=452 https://us.hardware.info/reviews/6721/13/corsair-rm550x--rm650x-review-excellent-middle-class-conclusion ------------- Now to figure out reliable SSDs/HDDs
