  1. File transfer is perfectly fine, (makes me very confident that its not hardware related) I've looked up and down my firewall to find what could be causing it in the firewall but I cant find anything. And I have booted to linux via my VM and its the same issue. Yet in safe mode with networking its perfect
  2. Hey yall, I've been trying to solve a problem with my network that I cant seem to figure out. Im going to lay out the situation and every solution I have tried below. I have 2 windows 10 PC's that are both cat5e connected to my router but one gets significantly faster internet speeds than the other. Both are in the same room about 4 feet apart. Some basic solutions probably come to your mind but trust me I have probably tried it. (ill list them later on) My Server PC has a i7 6700k and a ASRock Z170A motherboard, this PC gets the expected internet speed (950 down and 40 up) My gaming PC has a R9 3900x and a ASUS TUF X570-Plus mb. This gets a VERY unstable download speed (ranging from 150-500) Never higher but has a stable 40up. You can also see it peaks then goes down as compared to the server PC (Ping is identical between the two) I want state here before I mention the things ive tried that yes I have tried different cat5e cables and have used the others PC's cable to the same results. As well as changing ports on my router. Also I know this ethernet port on my gaming PC isnt damaged because before I switched to a 10gb network, I used that 1gb ethernet port for file transfers and regularly saw gigabit speeds. Everything I've tried Restarting the PC Restarting the modem & router Factory resetting the modem and router every variant of windows autotuning (including setting it to normal) different cables and ports on the router As far as I can find my router doesn't have any QOS settings (its a spectrum SAX1V1S router) Please feel free to tell me im dumb Trying different websites and browsers to test the speeds Tried a speedtest on a Linux VM on my gaming PC Ran Malwarebytes incase something was maliciously using my internet Disconnected everything from the network except for my gaming PC Released and renewed my lan IP (tried 3 different IP's)\ safemode with networking fixes the whole problem which is how I know its software obviously As you can see I have crossed off most of the forums and YouTube advice I could find. Its clearly not a big deal for most day to day things but it is an issue and I cant figure it out. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!
  3. I did actually consider doing something like that, But I would rather be future proofed incase I decide to add something to the system.
  4. Hey yall, I have a few questions that I thought the community might be able to help me with. Little background info before I get into the advice, I do video production for a media company and often bring home some work with me. I currently have a gaming/editing PC that runs great, and about 6 months ago I built out of some old spare parts a storage NAS, also runs great and I have 0 issues with it at all. So the bottleneck I have comes down to networking speeds from the limited Cat 5a cables and the router/switch. Ive included an astounding art piece I made in paint to give you an idea of how my current setup works. My current setup is my modem and router that are both just basic Rj-45 1Gb which of course limits my network speeds to just 1Gb. Might not be a major problem most of the time but if im working on a project or importing stuff to the server I run into bandwidth issues on my cables because they wont push past 1Gb connection at all. Great example is I will try to download something, then at the same time try to transfer a file from the server to my PC and I get limited to half a Gb on both. Not ideal. My goal is to keep my current modem, and router/switch combo because there are other things in my setup that dont require a faster connection that they both work fine on. (Xbox, TV ect.) The way I believe it should work from what ive learned is as follows. (Second diagram included) 1. Buy a switch similar to this https://www.amazon.com/MikroTik-Desktop-Gigabit-Ethernet-CRS305-1G-4S/dp/B07HYKQFWD/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1549074876&sr=8-1&keywords=CRS305-1G-4S+IN&linkCode=sl1&tag=craftcomputin-20&linkId=ce8a158ef1ece6763cf13df7225081e6&language=en_US and plug it into just a normal ethernet port on my primary router for internet access. 2. Buy SPF+ network cards for both the Server and the PC and plug in the PC and nas to the 10Gb switch. From what it sounds like that should be all it needs to work but I know im missing something somewhere or I just dont know it. Thats why im here asking. Would love advice/thoughts from the community because I frankly dont know alot about it and id rather ensure that I dont spend a few hundred dollars on some solution that might not even work. Thanks for any and all feedback and hope to chat with you all below.
  5. Yeah I do understand that. I plan to get backups but I just havent quite yet. IN the super short term I wont have any but sometime in the next 6 months plan to get some backups. The drives are all brand new/ 6 months old so im risking it for a few months lol
  6. Currently have no backup plan. Hasn't really been a thought tbh. And I just prefer for everything to be under 1 volume.
  7. Hi yall. Im currently working on expanding my home storage server. I currently have a 8tb and a 1tb drive running together with extended storage from disk management. Im adding a 14tb drive to it and Id like to be able to use all 3 drives for the most amount of storage possible. I tried to extend the volume onto the 14tb but realized im not able to with the sectors per cluster limit of 16tb. I know the best solution would be to copy all the data somewhere else then format all the drives and start fresh with raid but thats not really easy with several TB of data. Not really sure what the best solution is here and would love some feedback. Thanks!
  8. 3900x doesnt have integrated graphics. I know it sounds weird that id be using that for a media server. But its for a reason lol.
  9. Im doing some research for my media server and havent found what im looking for so I figured id come and see if anyone here has a recommendation. Im looking for a very small 4k60 capable GPU with no external power needed. I dont need alot of power from the GPU its doing 0 gaming. It just needs to be able to run a TV from it for movies and what not. Thanks!
  10. Hi yall, Ive ran into an issue and was looking to see if anyone maybe had a solution to try. Im pretty sure its hardware related but I figured id ask the fourm before I try and send it in for repair. Rundown: My setup runs 4 monitors on my ROG-STRIX-RTX2080S and has ran fine for about 8 months now. I started having an issue with the bottom HDMI port where occasionally the monitor plugged into it would start to flicker when id watch a video or sometimes just randomly. Id un plug and plug back in and it was usually fine. But just a few days ago it now no matter what will flicker the screen. By flicker I mean that the monitor will stay on and work perfectly for about 5-10 seconds, then go black for a few seconds come back on. Then occasionally will screen tear when its just looking at the desktop. As well occasionally different colored lines will run through the screen. Ive tried different monitors, different cables, and reseated the GPU. Not sure what the issue is. Would love to get any advice before I try and get it fixed from asus. Thanks! 11. I get anywhere from 100 to 112 down. So i dont think its set right at 100. But I have a feeling it is a switch or something like that I just dont have a clue to what It is thats limiting it. And whats really confusing to me is that where i used to live I would get 170-180 on this same PC.
  12. Evening all, I recently moved and have switched internet providers to spectrum. Really enjoy the speed. But the issue is I cannot get it on my PC. I pay for 400mbps internet and over wifi on my phone i get around 430 to 450 download which is great. The issue is over my Cat 6 Ethernet on my computer i only get around 100. Ive gone through every setting and have not been able to figure out why I am not getting the speeds that I should be over ethernet.I have switched the Ethernet cables out and tried different ports and have had no success. I believe that it is something to do with my pc but I cant seem to figure it out. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am running a arris TM1602 modem and a Sagemcom F@st 5260 router. My motherboard on the PC is a ASRock Z170A-X1/3.1
  13. Hi yall. Im looking to upgrade my rig to a ryzen 2700x and im looking to do an AIO cooling loop and not sure what i should do for a cooler. Im not sure if all AIO's are the same basically or if theres really a difference between a 30$ AIO or a 120 RGB one. Would love some from yall and some recomendations if possible. Thanks have a great day!
  14. Ill for sure look into those 2 thank you!
