I'd try to boot via another drive and try to save all the readable data on it.
Or connect this drive to another computer and do the same.
Maybe the read data will provide the Minecraft world

Sounds like a failing drive to me, these things can happen, sometimes the drive fails and Windows doesn't know how to interpret the failure so it will show weird stuff like that when it can't access the data. If you are plugging the drive into a separate machine to try to access the data and it's giving you these errors in Windows, I'd try it in a portable/technical OS such as Winpe or something Linux based such as Ubuntu. Typically you can access data that has permissions issues in either of those portables.

Id try something like proxmox or fedora/ubuntu/debian. Just gives you more options for vms, I don't find it hard to use either, esp with the guides.

Why not just install and see what happens. Try following a guide like this https://old.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/b5xpua/the_ultimate_beginners_guide_to_gpu_passthrough/

You can do this with vms, install a linux disto like proxmox, then make vms and do passthough. I don't know what tips to give other than give it a shot and see how it goes, and ask questions and google things as you go along. There are lots of guides to follow for this. Have you looked at any of them?

Id be tempted to sell the system and get 2 cheap ones, easier to setup and manager.

I'd think about getting a used 6950x to get 10 core or xeon similar to it ( E5-2640 V4 )
that way each kid can have a quad core with a 980 and 12gb of ram
that gives 2 cores and 8gb of ram for NAS/ MC server

Hell would freeze over, thaw out, freeze over again, and peace on earth would last for 1000 years before Intel went back on that after all the talk about how the 8000 series chips couldn't work on the 100 and 200 series boards due to power requirements and other changes.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I had a moment of, "oh shit, it would be cool to have a 6950x" without much thought if anything else. However, the processor I have is more than sufficient for my daily uses, so I won't be buying this CPU. Thanks for the great advice, as always.

I'm not so sure about that Modem since its not from a brand I'm familiar with. That router however is very good.

My suggestion is the Apple AirPort Extreme:

It's the same price for a very reliable and secure Router that apparently the CIA can't get into if you are concerned about privacy at all. But the router you have right there is not bad by any means. I have the same one myself.

Modem wise I've been told the Netgear CM600 is where it's at. The SB6141 is good but dated as well. Comcast is funny when provisioning this on there Network, as in it's hit or miss. Just for the love of God, stay away from the SB6190 or any modem using Intel's puma 6 chip. They are defective.

Faster memory and maybe get the two sticks in a 2x8 16gb package instead of two separate sticks. It might be cheaper.

@computerdaddy This is more balanced IMO for $40 more I got you a better PSU (500 is a bare minimum imo), a small SSD so you have a quick boot and a snappy OS experience, switched to Seagate enterprise drives which should perform just as well but saving $40 each and finally a 470 to make an all round balanced build but drop this back to a 460 if you want. I also saved a couple of $ by consolidating the RAM into a 2x 8GB pack instead of 2 1x 8 kits.
