  1. Empty case; If both sides come off, pull the sides and run a belt thru the case to shoulder carry. then carry the sides in your hands. Or pop out the IO shield and do similar.
  2. OK, motherboard $40.00. GPU $140.00. I bought 2x8gb crucial ballistix sport ddr3 from Amazon because the other was a scam. I'll get my money back but I have to wait until Jan. 20 to file a claim thru amazon. $115.00. Used fx6100 w/ stock cooler $50.00. Cooler Master Hyper T2 - Compact CPU Cooler bought before I knew the cpu came with a cooler $35.00. Found out my PSU wouldn't work with the newer style sata connectors. Best Buy house brand for $75.00. None of my cases would fit an atx MB. New case with cheap plastic orange accents....yuck. $50.00. No ide connectors on motherboard. Used dvd-rw $25.00. Already have a 128gb ssd from laptop. $0.00 Already have unused win8.1 cd key $0.00 Total includes taxes and shipping. C$530.00 Quite a bit more than I wanted to spend....oops. I'm going to use Passmark performance test to get a baseline and then swap the cooler to see if any difference. Then maybe try overclocking if the cpu allows.
  3. I too have used kinguin for a win10 key. I'm typing from the laptop that it's activated on. I bought about 8 months ago. Be aware that kinguin isn't the site that sells them, kinguin is more like a clearing house or like amazon, in that individual business' advertise on the site.
  4. So I just looked at my order history and the delivery date is Dec 20 to Jan 18. I believe I have to wait to start a dispute. However I knew going in that this was likely a scam but was willing to depend on Amazons risk policy. The other red flag I noticed about this sellers store is that all products had one of two prices; $10.22 or another I don't remember. I have also run across a different store that had exactly the same pricing structure and was also a new store with no reviews. I didn't buy anything
  5. I bought 16gb ddr3 1600 ram from a new seller about 2 weeks ago for $C20.00. There was no reviews then. There is now and it's 100% negative. The storefront was empty the day after I ordered and still is. If its too good to be true.....
  6. I just bought a new case for a new build. There was no instructions. I had to flip the [new to case] psu over from what I thought would be best for airflow to allow the atx 12v 8 pin connector to reach the MB.
  7. I ended up "winning" a bid for a ASUS Radeon RX 460 2G DUAL-FAN OC Edition. Total including taxes and shipping came to C$140.00. I'm having buyers remorse after seeing better cards go for cheaper. Oh well, learning costs...time or money. This time it was money.
  8. Carrying on with the bass ackwards theme, tonight I bought a Gigabite GA-970A-D3P for $40. It was NIB from someone on Kijiji that didn't look at the form factor before redeeming the Doom game that was an extra with the motherboard. This leaves me with $240.00 to find a cpu and gpu. I think I'll keep looking on the used market for a FX cpu, hoping I can snag an 83xx for somewhere around $75.00 leaving $165 for a gpu.
  9. Thanks again. The xeon 1231 v3 comes in at C$335.00. The motherboard is C$67.00. The gpu is C$230.00. I am partial to AMD but from what I've read the nvideo stuff has been better for the last few years. My thoughts on parts for this build is to buy about 2 years behind the curve for the best bang for the buck. I could be wrong. But your picks seem to confirm my thoughts. I just need to get a little cheaper.
  10. Thanks. The total of your choices comes to $632.00. Mine come to $535.00. I still need to come down closer to $300.00. Maybe the difference in pricing is because I'm shopping Canadian sites?
  11. It's been awhile since I've played with computers. I've always been a tactile person, and can take pretty much any physical object apart and put it together again...and have it work too Any way, I decided I want to build another computer after a decade, and some things have changed. Others haven't, I'm still broke.... I was on Amazon.ca and found a new store with some pretty good pricing. I picked up two sticks of Kingston 8gb Ddr3-1600mhz memory for $21.00, and that's pretty dam cheap. Yeah, I know that's not the right order of buying parts, but I'm already committed. I want to carry on that cheapness and need some advice of where to go for a motherboard and cpu. I have a few old cases, an old antec 450watt psu, dvd player, 2 x 128gb ssd's, a few hdd up to 500 gb, a monitor, keyboard, and gaming mouse. Max I'll spend is $300.00. -I found this motherboard for $100.00; MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard -I found this graphics card for $200.00; ASUS GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB PHOENIX Fan Edition DVI-D HDMI DP 1.4 Gaming Graphics Card (PH-GTX1050Ti-4G) -And I was leaning towards an i5 such as this for $235.00; Core i5-4690K --- total C$535.00 As you can see I'm already way over budget. Help me pare down my choices. This is primarily for gaming, first person shooters is what I like. Thanks, Richard
  12. @DimasShouldn't that be "...turn off the option...."? A month or so ago I disabled prefetch and "show me tips...", and I still have instances of [disc 100% highest active time]. It seems to be worst when first starting the computer and near the middle of the month, perhaps windows updates or defender? Also just tried @HunterAP 's suggestion and made EnablePrefetcher value equal 0, and will see how that works. Edit; Nov, 27, 2016 No change, disk still goes to 100% highest active time for long periods of time. Up to 1/2 hour with sporadic moments of usability.
