This tape... has some interesting history behind it because it signaled what the company behind the release was trying to do.
In 1992, Warner Music Group purchased a 50% stake into Rhino Records. Sometime after that, the company changed its name from Rhino Records to Rhino Entertainment Company. In 1998, WMG purchased the rest of Rhino. Not long after that, they would acquire the distribution rights to some of Sunbow Entertainment's 80s shows, namely Transformers G1, G.I. Joe and Jem and the Holograms. This was the first Transformers tape they released onto the market in late 1999.

Oh yeah and I just received it in the mail yesterday. It's in damn near pristine condition.

WikiForce reacted to Tao in Response to today's (Nov 30) Tech Quicky video: Why are Apple Products so Expensive?
    Greetings,

Normally I like LTT content, however today's Tech Quicky just was so far in left field that I felt I had to write a reply for the consideration of LTT.  Here is the video in question:

This video didn't go deep enough.  It barely skimmed the surface of Apple pricing, product quality and the like, and in doing so even made some false statements (which I will go into at the end).  However I wanted to address the main, serious issues with Apple pricing that were missed, and should have been in this video. Especially looking at British Columbia consumer protection law that should have been one of the first things researched by LTT for this video.

You missed some very important points that should have been made in a video outlining why Apple products cost so much. These are not to hate on Apple, but are actual FACT that should have been stated when talking about their prices:

Apple practices are in clear violation of unfair practices under British Columbia consumer protection law, and they are also in violation of the laws we have here in Saskatchewan.  Take a look at Apple desktops and the ram upgrades: https://www.apple.com/.../buy-mac/imac/21.5-inch-3.4ghz-1tb#

$240 Canadian for 8GB more  (making 16GB total), or $720 for 24GB more (32GB total)!  Compare that with newegg.ca prices: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE...

Apple charges more than twice the price for ram. I don't know what DDR 4 ram they use, but with their DDR3 systems, it wasn't anything fancy as several videos were made by tech Youtubers showing how to upgrade ram on Macs.

Apple also charges $240 for a minor upgrade to the processor. That is like buying a whole other processor!

    Here are the applicable laws:

    In British Columbia:

    "Unconscionable acts or practices
8 (1) An unconscionable act or practice by a supplier may occur before, during or after the consumer transaction.
    (3) Without limiting subsection (2), the circumstances that the court must consider include the following:
    (c) that, at the time the consumer transaction was entered into, the total price grossly exceeded the total price at which similar subjects of similar consumer transactions were readily obtainable by similar consumers;"
    http://www.bclaws.ca/.../document/ID/freeside/04002_02...

    In Saskatchewan:

    "PART II Division 2
    Specific unfair practices
7 The following are unfair practices:
    (r) taking advantage of a consumer by entering into an agreement if the price of the goods or services grossly exceeds the price at which similar goods or services are readily obtainable in a similar transaction by like consumers;"

    http://www.publications.gov.sk.ca/.../Statutes/C30-2.pdf

Further, although in some cases some statements made by Linus are true, in others they are outright false. Linus says: "..more consideration into...component quality..." This may be true for iPhone, however it is NOT true at all for their laptops (overheating), or desktops. As we saw a few years ago, Apple used lower speed DDR3 memory and the memory could easily be swapped out with memory bought on newegg.com.

Also Linus says: "...but Apple hasn't wanted to risk cheaping out to make lower end product that could compromise their brand reputation". This statement is patently false. There are numerous examples of poor build quality of their laptops (see Rossmann videos), doing away with headphone jacks, bending and breaking phones, etc

Overall this video really missed the mark.  I know Linus didn't intend to make false or misleading statements, as they were probably an artifact of trying to summarize things "as quickly as possible".  I can also see not going into detail about consumer protection laws in a Tech Quicky, but it should at least be mentioned as a foot note. However due to the false statements, I really would suggest it be taken down and redone.

^^^ Facts. At 1080p ultra lots of games use more than 3GB VRAM, the 1060 3GB is a pretty dumb choice if you can afford a 1060 6GB. In that budget you could easily fit a 1070/Vega 56 or mebbe even a 1080/Vega 64. Sweet spot would probs be an RX580/590 8GB though.

WikiForce reacted to GoodBytes in Poor service, on hold for ages, no resolution to problems? You may have a low Customer Score with the company. More companies are using it.
More and more companies, are using a system called the Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) score, to provide preferential services to customers that the company evaluates as more valuable over others. This means, that if you have a low score, and you call for support, you may be waiting for an extra long time on the phone to get someone from the company, while a high score customer may get first in line service when they call, free extras and more.

What is the CLV that some growing companies uses?
Well, based on the price you pay a companies service, how willing or not in getting extras, how you shop for their service, and more is all monitored, proceeded and digested to a score. Based on the score you can have varying quality of service.

A person that seeks the lowest rates, complains a lot, do warranty repairs a lot, are all things that may reduce this score. And reverse hold true for gaining a higher score. Joining their loyalty program, big customer, using often their service? Score will increase.

    The Wall Street Journal reports:

In other words and a big visual example of CLV in action are air lines. If you travel often with the same airlines, get the fancier seats all the time, get extras, and join their loyalty club, good chances that if you miss your flight one day, you'll get an excellent alternative flight, maybe even get upgraded. Go cheap and be cheap often then probably you will be told that there is no room and that there is nothing they can do, and maybe just maybe the next flight might have room for you... Now you know why some people get free first class/business class upgrade for free when they ask, and others the answer is no all the time.

What do you think with the ever growing number of companies that uses CLV score?
In a way, one can say that, no everyone has the luxury to get fancy service, and already getting the basic service is a stretch to them, so already for the company to get this as a customer, while profit margins are small, it adds up, and is of course, better than nothing. While I understand companies wanting to ensure that their big customers doesn't go to their competitors, and brings a lot of money to the company, that they deserve the best service. Should a law be imposed by the government forcing companies to be able to give preferential treatment to customers?

Definitely gonna recommend you Ryzen on this one, due to the extra cores. That should help chew through some encoding. The 970 Evo 500GB is only $60 more than the 250GB, if you want to step up to that. Other than that, I just swapped the PSU out for a higher quality unit, and you're good to go. You can also step down to a B450 motherboard if you don't plan on overclocking/only mild overclocking

Then I would agree with @WikiForce in that it could be your RAM. I am not aware of that brand either. I wouldn't recommend getting RAM from companies other than the mainstream ones. Reliability and performance is often skewed on lesser known chip makers, so sticking with the primary brand like CORSAIR, PNY, or G.SKILL would be best
