I would get a 5800X3D. You might even be able to get your memory performing at spec, since the CPU has a better IMC than 3000 series iirc, but you might do well to check your motherboard’s QVL and make sure your RAM is on it. If it isn’t, that could be the issue and a new kit of RAM that is on it might fix that. That would be a huge performance uplift (3200 or 3600 vs 2666).

Also, a simple BIOS update often increases RAM stability on those boards. That might also fix your issue.

AMD 7000 series isn't worth it yet.  IIRC, they force you to use DDR5, so not only can't you use your current stuff, but you'll have to pay double for new stuff.  Until DDR5 starts getting into price parity with DDR4, don't bother.

If you can wait, then hold off for the reviews on the 13th gen intel.  The 3090 should run your game list pretty well even with your current Ryzen 3700, since that was a high-end CPU only 3 years ago, well after most of those games were released.

For mostly gaming the 5950x will do worse than the 5800x3d. For productivity tasks, that's going to be more about which software you're using and if it leverages all cores it can.

For 1200 you can do pretty decently although this will be right on your budget. I'd downgrade your cpu first because the difference isn't that big between the 12400f and the 12100f, just the core count would be different

Save some cash and get a 12100F, also the 3050 is not great; if you can afford it, grab a 3060ti (NVidia) or RX6600XT (by AMD).

If you can’t afford a better GPU the 3050 isn’t horrible, it’s just not exactly the best especially in terms of performance per dollar. For 1080p it should be just fine, though. A better GPU would be far more futureproof.

ArcticSalad reacted to Zando_ in Small rant re: Linus vs NFT's
You can do this without NFTs or other blockchain tech.
Not feasible, at least not on any sort of scale that would make an impact. I don't think you understand how games are made, or even something as basic as differences between engines.
You can already do this, for free, by setting your friends up with the family sharing feature on steam and many other platforms. Why would you charge for that? Also even if you wanted to, why would someone rent the game from you instead of just buying it off the summer sale for $5 or something. Also this could be done without the need for blockchain, and you'd have legal recourse if you were robbed
You can do this without NFTs or other blockchain tech.
You are correct here, from my understanding the NFT is specifically the token the image represents, and you have no rights to the image itself.

Which makes it even more silly, you're just buying a ticket in a set of tickets someone made up, merely so you can say you have the ticket, and maybe sell it to someone else who wants that ticket more, so then they can say they have that ticket in the set of tickets. But anyone can make up and "mint" their own set of tickets, so what's the point of them to begin with?

Most of the problems with crypto are that none of it solves anything without creating more issues. The coins are just as imaginary as "real" money without the backing of legal and federal entities (which also has the fun side effect of leaving you with no legal recourse if you are robbed), and the NFTs are about as valuable as paying to name a star. And any arguments for them to be actually tied to anything useful is just an attempt to force scarcity in an inherently non-scarce medium, purely to make a quick buck. All the things people say NFTs could be used for, can either already be done with current tech and without the drawbacks of blockchain, or are so impractical and ignorant that they were never feasible to begin with.

Maybe you're tired of games with goals since you now have goals to achive IRL. You might nowadays find goalless sandbox games fun because it's pure freedom and no expectations.

I think that's why BeamNG is one of my favorites. It always has been and always will be an expectationless escape from the real world. Over the years, other game modes have been added that include challenges and goals, but you need not pay any attention to them and just stick with the free roam mode that always has been there and always will be there.

Or maybe fire up Minecraft in creative mode, pick a direction, and just walk enjoying the world. Try that whenever you're bored. I've walked hundreds of thousands of blocks in game.

But if you have any self respect at all, DO NOT turn to social media every time you feel bored. It's a trap that I'm still working on escaping from. I find it's sometimes better to just sit still and just let yourself exist. It's nice to not be doing anything sometimes. Anything is better than bordem driven addiction.

If you've ran a test on the network with two different computers at the time the issue occurred and only your computer experienced the problem then chances are it's an issue originating from your PC. This is something your ISP can't (or rather won't) help.

You can start by re-installing or updating your network driver. Beyond that you can try installing a different NIC and see if it makes a difference. If both fail try booting a different OS such as a fresh Windows installation on another drive or Ubuntu. See if the error goes away or persists. Beyond that you may find yourself reinstalling Windows or replacing hardware.

This is perfectly normal and nothing has changed. Many programs are designed to be 32-bit because 64-bit simply isn't necessary and it allows for greater compatibility for anyone that may still need it.

This is completely unrelated to why you might have high ping, and task manager won't help you figure that out either.

Your ping will fluctuate depending on countless different factors. Unless your ping is consistently awful across all of your games, it is probably also normal.

A small amount of googling leads me to these two:

    Sennheiser GSP 600

    Beyerdynamic MMX 300

Personally I would take the MMX 300s mostly because after dabbling with both brands, I just love the feel and sound of Beyerdynamics. How well this translates between models I don't know, but I know the comfort of the DT 770 Pros are amazing and MMX 300 looks to be very similar. Theyre have roughly the same impedance (28Ω vs 32Ω respectively) and the GSP 600 will probably get a tad bit louder at 112db against the 96db of the MMX 300. The GSP 600 has a lower frequency response range of 10-30KHz compared to the 5-35KHz, although that's not really a huge deal. You could get an external amplifier as well if you get the GSP 600, though, which might make an impact on how the perform. However, they may already be tuned and already be at their best getting powered just from your PC.

No worries! If you're ever interested in some bigger headphones I'd still recommend these! I'll go digging around and find some more "all in one" headphones that might be better suited for ya. Are you biased towards wired or wireless or does it not matter?

The BIOS reported temperatures of the CPU and motherboard are accurate. I'm still convinced that the TMPIN temperatures are from unused or faulty sensors or HWMonitor and hwinfo are reporting false values. I don't think it is anything to worry about. If you had a thermal camera or temperature gun you could physically check the temperatures on different parts of the motherboard, chances are though you might not have anything like that as most people don't. If any part of the motherboard is actually over 100 degrees Celsius, I imagine that it would reflect a bit in the CPU and mainboard temperatures which it isn't, those temperatures for you are staying quite cool. VRM temperatures would for sure reflect in your CPU and mainboard temperatures, and again, they are still staying cool. I'm convinced it isn't anything to worry about.

Since the TMPIN temperatures aren't changing depending on the system load, I'm lead to believe that they are unused or faulty sensors that are just outputting a set, calculated or false value and are not actually measuring a real time temperature. That one value that is changing is likely a sensor for the VRM or something similar which are made to run at high temperatures.

Regardless of what they are for, they aren't anything to worry about. It's your CPU temperature that is important.

There are countless red flags going up.
Price is way too good to be true. The seller has absolutely zero feedback in the last year. The seller's previously sold items are totally unrelated. It's the seller's only item currently listed for sale. The item description has no effort put into it (it's just a copy-paste). It says delivery may take more than an entire month (which is especially strange since it is apparently shipped from the U.S.). A single picture and is basically from google images. I wouldn't place my bets on this being legit. Even though Ebay and Paypal will cover you, it may take a very long time (even up to a month) to get it all sorted out and your money back.

When considering power supplies, always consider the individual unit rather then the brand. For example, both Corsair and EVGA make some of the highest end units on the market but at the same time make some incredibly poor quality units as well.

All of the units listed are of very poor quality/reliability with the exception being the be quiet! System Power - it's a pretty decent unit. If those are your only options I would go with that one.

Otherwise you could go with anything tier 3 or higher on the PSU tier list.

ArcticSalad got a reaction from YourPETturtles in First time build - judge it!
It's not about the brand, it's about the individual unit. Always consider the individual unit rather then the brand when it comes to power supplies. EVGA produces some of the best quality units on the market, but also has quite the range of extremely poor quality units. The B series in particular, is one of those poor quality units.

For a quick reference, you can visit the handy PSU tier list we have here on the forums. You want to have a unit considered at least tier 3 or higher. The Corsair CX (2017) or CXM (2015) are an excellent value at their lower price and great quality, thus my personal recommendation.
