  1. 3.0 should still contain the new NetCode though right? The one reason I'm not on the PU as much as I'd like to be is because the netcode means I get terrible FPS drop while logged in.. My machine is not quite up to modern spec but I should still be able to push a consistant 40-50FPS without harsh drops.
  2. This topic is always interesting to me. Currently I dual boot windows/Ubuntu 16.04 at home and I like to live in Linux for the most part, but I find myself switching to Windows to play certain games. The idea of a Passthrough is pretty darn close to what I'd be looking for but still doesn't completely scratch the Linux Gaming itch. What i'd REALLY like is for Vulkan (or OpenGL) to really take off and start to make gaming on Linux a true competitor. Windows cornering the market with DirectX is just depressing. If I didn't game on my PC I wouldn't be running Windows at all anymore. Good luck with this KVM project. I'm really interested to see how it turns out!
  3. I have a dual boot with Windows 10/Ubuntu 16.04 on my i7-2700k. My system is pretty beefy even for an old gal but Ubuntu barely touches the resources I have available and runs beautifully.
  4. I'll have to do this with Windows as linux defaulted to OpenGL and I can't pick a different one. Also worth mentioning that I'm using PlayOnLinux to play Linux through Wine. all things considered it actually works quite well.
  5. I wasn't sure whether to post this in the Linux forum or in the Gaming, but here's me taking a chance with it. I was noticing a significant drop in FPS between Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) on my machine. For example, in League of Legends I would be seeing an FPS around 200+ (120+ during heavy graphical load) while in full screen (1080p) and ultra high settings. In Linux I see a drop of about 50% or more during load (dropping to ~50-60FPS). I thought this was interesting so I decided to run Unigine Heaven in both Windows and Linux to see the results. I'm actually surprised that there wasn't as much of a difference here as I thought... Note that these are at 1600x900 (my full screen scores are even more awful..) on the Extreme preset. I'm more than certain that this is due to drivers but I just thought it interesting enough to show. Does anyone else have gaming experience in Linux that could give me a few tips in increasing graphical performance in Linux?
  6. I can't help but read all these comparisons with Ryzen and wonder where my i7-2700K fits I know that I didn't see much performance difference going from 7 to 10.. but it's a very interesting story to see Ryzen on W7 running faster than W10
  7. Thanks for the replies! In that case I think there's some DNS errors somewhere. The link on wanshow was merch.linustechtips.com. I guess that's just supposed to redirect?
  8. Watching the wan show and saw the link for merch, but the site is down. Did I Internet wrong?
  9. As a techie, I've approached vendors to replace hardware that was accidentally damaged/destroyed. Hell I accidentally ran over my iPhone (yes, with a car) in college and Apple replaced it no questions asked. The rig falling was was a complete accident. Linus took a chance contacting ASUS to see if they could get him a replacement. Asus could have easily said "sorry, we don't have any more review units" but like a smart vendor, they were ready for a notoriously clumsy reviewer to break a unit and have now gained positive publicity by sending him a replacement. You also have to think, to a company like ASUS a $300+ board is peanuts. They get a well known public figure in the industry to review their product, which is worth a replacement board to them. It it has nothing to do with respect. It's business.
  10. Are you asking what a good compatible GPU would be for that rig? or are you just telling us that you're upgrading your GPU...
  11. Hey all, I'm putting together a few builds and i'm trying to make certain price points. I'd like to know what everyone here would consider Mid-tier, High-tier and God-Tier or Enthusiast-Tier in terms of what you'd expect to see in these builds. I'm not sure if I'm capturing these tiers properly in the below builds, so I'm very interested in what you have to say! Mid-Tier, AURORA: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/d9wkjc High-Tier, INTREPID: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/wvWfhq God-Tier, PANTHEON: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/dm9NgL I'm also trying to put together a super conservative gaming build.. Something that will play 1080p @ 60fps with decent capacity for RAM. I'm aiming for under $1k CAD with this one and really don't have any ideas of where to start! All constructive criticisms welcomed
  12. Chances are you're having trouble with XenServer because of the SSD going through your RAID card. You might try to find RAID drivers for the specific card you have when installing XenServer. Also check Citrix's HCL (link here) to make sure all your components are compatible.
  13. If you wanted to get real fancy you could take a backup with software (Acronis) and do a Universal restore.. It can restore data to dissimilar hardware. Acronis costs $$$ though.
  14. I'd entertain the idea of helping LMG open an office in the GTA if they're looking to move east,
