Natsoup got a reaction from Yoloshiku991 in Experiences with non-techies
At work, a professor called IT explaining that their computer was booting up slowly and new users couldn't login. After a seeing that the disk was completely full, we found that the professor had over 80 hours of 1080p video of an experiment where he just poked a bug in a trash can with various sticks and poking items. He was indinant when we told him it was because of his stupid bug videos (obviously we didn't say it like that, but he had to buy an external hard drive)
It took almost 2 hours to move all the videos for him

Natsoup got a reaction from Bensemus in Siemens eHighway
I thought like this for a while, like electric cars were stupid because then the emissions would just be from the power plant. But someone pointed out to me that just about any modern power station is going to be significantly more efficient than a tiny car motor, or relatively tiny truck motor in this case.

So, I was on the autobahn in Germany, and saw some overhead lines being built, like the ones for trains.
Turns out it was this: https://www.siemens.com/global/en/home/products/mobility/road-solutions/electromobility/ehighway.html
Unlike the Tesla truck, with this one you don't have to worry about range.
Edit: Found some more info: https://www.electrive.com/2017/12/19/construction-kick-start-first-ehighway-electric-trucks-germany/
This is the one that I saw.
Also, here's a test drive:

$850? Who in their right fucking mind would pay $850 for an ARM based laptop with a gimped version of Windows when a nice Ryzen laptop or a decent hybrid costs that much?

Natsoup reacted to Commodus in In-depth RTX demonstration on Battlefield V
It feels like we're at a very GeForce 256 sort of moment. That is, it's offering a peek at what the future of game graphics will be like, but this won't be the card you use to reveal the technology's full potential -- that's going to come years down the road.
I can't help but imagine that games several years from now will use a ton of raytracing, and we'll wonder how we lived without it.
