Well the Okinawa World Heritage Site has been irreparably destroyed by fire
Shurijo Castle, that was once at the centre of the Ryukyu Kingdom,
was originally destroyed in WW2 and was rebuilt on the original site.
Due to it's huge cultural significance, they have already vowed to rebuild it once again

Hopefully they're successful. Do you know what caused the fire?
-
not as of yet, Investigation is currently on going.
It's not the first time it would have been rebuilt. It was partially burned down 3 times during the Sanzan period (1314-1429) and rebuilt each time, only in WW2 was it completely destroyed. A lot of the artifacts and documents that could have aided in reconstruction were lost, so they relied on historical records (not held in Shurijo) photos and memory to rebuilt it into what it was prior to this fire. Doesn't surprise me that they are willing to rebuild it again

That's unfortunate. One day, I will manage to make my way over to Japan.
Still blows my mind that the castle in Toyko was once worth as much as every property in California.

Should have stuck it in an Assassin's Creed game:
