ProjectBox153 reacted to Commodus in Is there ANY privacy with a Google device present?
Some people will swear that their smart devices are targeting ads based on conversations, but there's no real evidence to indicate they're doing this.

Chromecasts don't have always-ready microphones, for starters. And the mics aren't actively recording on your Home or Pixel -- they're just waiting for a wake word before they do anything. Besides, the computational demands on Google's part for always-on ad targeting would be ridiculous. It'd need enough computational power to actively monitor hundreds of millions of Assistant devices around the clock.

More often than not, it's most likely that you've done something else that sparked the targeted advertising, or even that circumstances happened to align. That it only happened three times in a year sounds like evidence Google isn't listening in — you'd think Google would want do to that a lot more often if it had the power to eavesdrop.

That would definitely be something I'd like to see. I don't watch a lot of LTT videos anymore, but I do on occasion, and it would be nice to have someone to discuss these issues with.

Look, I don't want to be rude, but you are quite new here and there's more to my opinions on how Lawlz is than just this thread, and the one linked. If you read the one linked, I think you would understand why I'm annoyed to be quoted in this thread and out of context.

So I'm guessing this is why I should, in your opinion, apologize? Because I didn't think LMG was at that point 5 months ago when I wrote that? I'm still 100% behind everything I said in that thread, and considering you didn't bother to contest my reply back then, I think you actually did agree with me (but are/were too proud to show it). I don't see why I should apologize anything. I can say I was wrong, but thats it.

The problem here is that all this is just opinion. You aren't in position where you can prove anything. You are only getting, in your own words, the backlashes, the apologies, and the WAN Shows. You don't watch actual ad spots, you don't use some of the software/hardware/games advertised. You are just making opinions based on what you are watching. Don't try to push your garbage to me like that. I don't take it from LMG, or anyone else from YT, why you would think I take it from you?

I am disappointed that LMG has come to point where they have so few good companies offering them money that they need also the second tier ad spots. And also that the ad spots are lot more about reading company supplied rep sheet than their own opinions of the products. Granted that I also only see ad spots during WAN Show because of Floatplane. Does that change how I see them as company? Not really. I still won't buy anything just because its endorsed by someone I happen to follow. I'm still annoyed about those ad spots for LastPass and Backblaze.

Sorry, what disaster? Dyson having campaign where they sponsored bunch of tech-tubers at once, making it look like big cliché? Are the products actually bad? AFAIK Dyson still is premium cleaning hardware manufacturer, and has sponsored another video after that said spot. Plus Linus, and iJustine, said to be using the hardware. So what disaster you mean here?

And just in case people are too lazy to read my comment from older thread, I'll emphasize that I am vocal critique of how Linus conducts some parts of his business. Mainly how he interacts with the community, be it through apology videos/threads, their store support or some other parts of messaging overall. Considering the size of the community, and the company, it has taken them couple of years too long to take community again part of the growing company. They could have hired community manager long time ago. A person who oversees (aka would be tagged) anytime sponsor, store, ID claim or anything else was troubling community. Maybe their social media rep could do some of that?

Fun fact: LMG is a business & Linus personally owes us nothing. His "non apology" was a non apology because he has nothing to apologise for, the second he allows the consumers who literally give him nothing to dictate what he can and cannot do with his business is when LMG dies and over 20 people end up on unemployment.

Given how he literally told us he's fine with it as long as it's not literal scam, that is the case here.

Users should do some research before spending money anyways, and not just listen to some guy on the internet telling you what the company wants you to hear.

The issue I have with this is that LTT states that they use the stuff they feature in sponsor spots, and they'll recommend it based on their positive experience (from what I understand/remember, I may be wrong)
So for them to suddenly be fine with anything (that's not a scam) now, it's quite a change in tone, and doesn't match up to what they said before.

From now I'll just treat sponsor spots as just a random ad on a TV, and assume LTT doesn't really use or care about it other than the money they provided for the spot, which is fine for me, whatever keeps them in business I suppose

Edit: people shouldn't be hating on a video just because of a sponsor, cmon
    It's just an ad

ProjectBox153 reacted to dizmo in Why gpu's on ebay are overpriced?
Supply and demand. Can't get anything else, so what's available goes up in price.
On eBay specifically, for items that are as old as yours, they're not really scalpers. They're simply capitalizing on market trends, and the market is deciding what the cards are worth. There's a pandemic right now, as well as a mining boom, both of which are going to drastically affect supply. Not much you can do. Just wait it out.

Interesting registry edit fix. Wouldn't that cause some kind of compatibility issue? Manually changing the versions?
Just to add more info about their shitty products: their ryzen behaves like an hyperactive child. Constantly up and down clocks every 10 seconds, up and down 10-15c in temperature 5 TIMES a minute while sitting idle. I just dont see this lasting more than few years. I have a damn intel cpu that has been abused to sh*t for 11 years and its going strong and still relevant. About ryzen I found the solution in locking the frequency. And the previous chip started to restart after 3 months of light use as well, which were changed under warranty. Their sound drivers are f**ked, their radeon is f**ked with all that streaming crap, overall a shitty and very unprofessional company.

Without going into a point for point counter argument, your wrong, Plain and simple. This is coming from experience of having had run a business as a COO for nearly 10years before going self employed.  Your argument makes assumptions on how a business works. And business does not work the way your projecting.
A business does not take on new employees and then finds money to pay them. Its the other way around. Linus' explanation is fair in this and why your twisting that is beyond any understanding. Taking on new venues of revenue regardless of the reason is good business. LMG is a for-profit company and Linus has no reasonn to apologize for that to anyone.
I do not disagree with his position.

If nothing you will be doing specifically needs an Intel CPU then definitely get the M1 MacBook Air. It is a lot faster than the older MacBook Pro, and the keyboards don't break.

The issue was a manufacturing defect from my understanding, so it wasn't really the fault of Apple. That GPU issue also affected the 2011 Mac mini (yes, there was a model with a dGPU) and the 2011 iMac. I own a 2011 15" MacBook Pro and a 2011 27" iMac, and I got both of them for free because they had GPU issues.

Then find yourself a Mid 2012 13" in decent condition. Those are the best in terms of upgradeability and performance. The 2011 model isn't bad (well, the 15" and 17" models are terrible, but the 13" is fine), but you don't get USB 3. The 2012 also officially supports newer versions of macOS past High Sierra.

They aren't bad, but get a 2012 model if you can. Those are a LOT better than the 2010 Core 2 Duo models. If you're looking for a 15" MBP then DO NOT BUY the 2011 model. A 2012 MBP will run up to macOS Catalina officially, and there are patchers to install macOS Big Sur.
