Hi All, i have an interesting one for you today. I have asus FX505D that i opened up earlier to clean out the dust and grime it has accumulated. I disconnected the fans and cleaned them each, and then reassembled the laptop. It is not power cycling from i can tell. Power light is on, the power button and keyboard are lit up, but no display. It currently just ramps up its fan and stops, then repeats. so far i have soft reset it, hard reset it, with a full battery disconnect, double checked all of the connections inside and reseated any i unplugged. and nothing. I have connected to an external display and no output. Which leads me to believe that it is not the display, or the gpu. i read as much as i could find, and none of the solutions the suggested worked. The only thing i have not done is remove the cmos battery as that would require a full teardown, and that seems like setting it up for more to go wrong. Any help is really appreciated im really at a loss here

the drive is just over 2 years old, less than 5000 power on hours. Isnt that super quick for a drive to die?

Hi All, So i have been having really strange problem lately. I use a 2tb intel 660p as a storage drive for my pc. Lately it is disappearing. What i mean by this is it does not show up in windows, crystal disk mark, or drive manger. it simply disappears. This is proceeded by 1 of 2 things. The first is i boot up my computer it blue screens, with no error code restarts and loads into window, and the drive is gone. The second is writing something to the drive and it just errors out, it can no longer be written to or read from. Does not matter the speed or size of file. This occurs randomly. But is guaranteed on any extended write. more than 30 seconds or so. I have check the drives health when it is working and everything reads as fine, both through windows and crystal disk mark. Im kind of at a loss here. Ive updated the bios, all the drivers, and nothing changed. Updated windows and the same problem still occurs. My best guesses are the m.2 slot on the board is dying or the drive is. Any help is really appreciated! PC https://pcpartpicker.com/user/wayland64/saved/zvNrvK

Nas/Plex/media server build help
wayland64 replied to wayland64's topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
How would a deskmini a300 with a 2200g work. It has 2.5 inch drive bays. So I could squeeze 4tb in raid 1 in their + a boot drive. Also could I just use a 3000g or is that not powerful enough -
Nas/Plex/media server build help
wayland64 replied to wayland64's topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
I was thinking something that could sit on a shelf. My only hesitation with building something would be size. Itx hardware tends to be more expensive, and being able to stay closer to $400 would be great. Are there any off the shelf nas's that can transcode ok? -
Hi All So im looking for to build or buy a plex server and nas. I have a ton of movies and tv that i want to be able to access on my smart devices, and from my phone. Max resolution i would working with is 1080p. Max 3 streams at once. I also want to be able to digitize my record and tape collections and be able to stream my music. Being able to put photos on this and having access to them would be great to. Finally i need a file server for confidential medical files. I have to keep files for 6 years after treatment and having them all in paper makes accessing and deleting them extremely difficult. Im not sure what OS, i should be using for this but any help would be great. I have two 3 tb drives i can use for storage. My budget is $400 up to $600 if it will last a long time. Being able to set it and forget it would be great. Im fine with buying a prebuilt or building something myself. Major bonus if the server could trans-code the plex streams, so the devices dont have to. Any help is appreciated thanks all!

ASUS Z370E x WD Black 250GB NVME SSD
wayland64 replied to 737748484882484's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
yes it will work, the board has nvme support https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z370-E-GAMING/ -
So this is where I'm at, I have an LG gram 13 2018 with a sata SSD, and I'm upgrading to a larger nvme drive, now the problem is there is only one slot, so transferring the data is a little tricky since external m.2. name enclosures are very expensive, so I'm thinking of first cloning to an external hard drive then cloning to the new nvme SSD, but if this may cause problems or if there is an easier way, please let me know

first build Planning to build, Bottlenecking? Is it good?
wayland64 replied to Mortx11's topic in New Builds and Planning
get a ryzen 2700 and get 16gb of ram and maybe even 1070ti, better performance per dollar -
Hi there so I have had my new LG gram 13 2018 for around a month, and I love it blends portability and performance very well. But there are some shortfalls 1st 8gb of ram is barely enough for my workload, and I find myself being limited, second, it has a 256gb SATA ssd, which is quickly running out of space and slows down my workload due to the lower read and writes speeds. So I'm strongly considering upgrading the ram to 16gb and the storage 500gb NVME. Now, this is where the problem first on the matter of Ram I've read that in my model the i5 that 4gb is sodered and 4 is a slot ive also read that it is all soldered and finally that eight is soldered and a there is a free slot. So you can see my dilema, while I'm willing to have 12gb I want to know what I'm getting into. Now on the matter of storage. I plan to clone my current SSD onto the new one, but unlike cloning other an SSD, I can not seem to find an external enclosure any help on these issues is greatly appreciated

Hi there, so it is pretty basic. I just got the Lg Gram 13, with the i5-8250u. And out of the box, it is noticeably loud, and this is surprising. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to quiet the machine down since even sitting idle the fan is spinning and while web browsing the computer is anywhere from 75-80c which seem hotter than it should be any help is appreciated. edit- it seems to be continually turboing up to 3.3ghz even at 20% utilization

For a daily driver at school which would be better a blade or a gram, they are around the same price, looking at reliability and long-term use

Hi there, so I'm in a bit of dilemma. I'm moving into a dorm room, and as such, I will not be able to bring my current setup as it is rather large. So I have two option either transplant what I can into an itx build and get the base leg gram or but an egpu and the more expensive LG gram and use that as my daily driver and my gaming machine, any help or suggestion is much appreciated. My current build and the possible new build will be linked below. Thanks, Wayland64 The ITX build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WB2Mw6 My current build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QkFndX
