did you do a clean install of the gpu drivers? if you got 240fps with your 1060 in the same system then the new card is the issue, not the rest of your system.

oh also, please whatever you do don't listen to @Somerandomtechyboi's ridiculous "solution". if the same system with the 1060 performed as you wanted there's no need for any of that.

old windows versions did that, it's possible this person upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, hence the old shortcut was still there.

download chrome setup from their site and run it, if it already detects an install there select the repair option in the installer, that should do it.

the problem is that for some reason your chrome shortcut was set in internet explorer's files. Windows Update recently pushed an update that deletes internet explorer, hence your shortcut is gone.

manually pinning Chrome to the taskbar should fix it.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from NovaViper in How to install Windows 11 on QEMU, to emulate supported hardware and get all updates, even on an unsupported host computer.
this guide will cover installing Windows 11 on a qemu VM in linux, that allows you to emulate both secure boot and TPM 2.0 even if the host computer has no support for either.

    what do you need:
    - linux install. i recommend manjaro for this as some stuff we need is very easy to install due to it's Arch base.
    - enough drive space for the VM (i recommend 64gb)
    - windows 11 iso, get that from microsoft's website.

step 1: install all the packages we need. open a terminal and type: sudo pacman -S iptables-nft qemu virt-manager libtpms edk2-ovmf

    step 2: add yourself to the kvm group to make the virtual machine manager play nicely: sudo usermod -aG libvirt ${USER} && sudo usermod -aG kvm ${USER}

step 3: open virt-manager and make a new VM:

    select the following options:
    local install media
    select your iso file
6144 for ram (that's 6gb, 4gb on 11 is a bit slow) and as many cpu cores as you want to spare
virtual disk same thing, make one however big you wish, 64gb is minimum
    check "customize hardware before install
    click finish.

    you'll now see this:

we need to make some changes here.
for firmware, select the one with secure boot:

that will enable our virtual secure boot, which we need to make sure the VM thinks it's supported.

then, go to "add hardware" on the bottom left.
near the bottom of the list select TPM, and make sure it's configured like this:

this is our emulated TPM 2.0.

click finish at the bottom right, then begin installation at the top left.

install WIndows 11 like you would in any VM, and you'll now have a fully functional VM even on unsupported hardware.

here are some screenshots of it running on my dual Xeon X5650 machine, which does not have UEFI or TPM of any kind. and yet, it get full updates and no issue even joining the insider program, due to the OS thinking it's running in a supported configuration 🙂

    here's my system specs:

and here is my windows 11 VM:

Epic is trying to do a PR stunt, but they forgot they are hated by the people they are trying to provoke into action with this. they are acting like the good guy fighting the bad guy, but they forget that they've done plenty of anti consumer stuff...

I gotta say, I have a big VHS collection and a decent player, your VHS tape was probably degraded... I've got tapes that while producing a noisy signal, definitely have a lot more colour to them. old animated Disney movies etc.

also, a CRT might have been better for demonstrating the VHS tape, I've noticed that CRT's look better, probably because they don't need to upscale. since old VHS tapes tend to have a noisy signal, and you're upscaling noise, that's what makes it look so bad on "modern" aka hd tv's...

Curious how Linus, connoisseur of the ethical implications of piracy of his own content, would feel about users uploading Floatplane exclusive content to archive.org.

@LinusTech Is it okay if we upload/download your paywalled content as long as it's to/from archive.org? Does that specific site make piracy okay in your view? Or is said piracy only okay when you're in a position to leverage the LTT YouTube channel to profit from it?

to find out what sleep states are supported on the system on linux:
sudo dmesg | grep ACPI | grep supports on my laptop that returns:

so i'm good, but yea, this sucks. manufacturers should just include S3.

in positive news though, linux may have issues with it, but should have support theoretically. intel even made an article on it: https://01.org/blogs/qwang59/2018/how-achieve-s0ix-states-linux

first of all if you can't figure out what app is making a given noise you shouldn't be using a computer that supports multitasking. second i never said it was useful. using spotify's own volume control is much faster and more convenient than the windows sound mixer which comes straight out of Windows 98.

you can't because the OS relies on the apps to be in those locations... i mean, Apple isn't the only one who does that, try renaming system32 in Windows

in the same way you can add it back to macOS with a third party app. what would be the point in microsoft suing a project that 1% of the market uses?

    i did not say that?

the OS has that, it's just a bit hidden. here's a guide https://www.maketecheasier.com/launch-terminal-current-folder-mac/

window snapping i just use Rectangle for. iirc Apple can't do the windows-way because Microsoft patented it. not their fault.

the full screen thing in Firefox is a Firefox issue. Chrome and Safari both behave normally. it's just Firefox.

Volume for individual apps is stupid. i dual boot Windows on my Mac and i've never ever felt like wanting to use that. the only time it comes in handy is when i wanna turn down spotify but keep the system volume high for watching coding tutorials on youtube while listening to music. but like, spotify has it's own volume control i don't need the OS for that option.

why you want to create an empty file in a folder is beyond me, i've never needed that.
