i don't know if that is the specific board. you need to verify that for yourself.

Ashley MLP Fangirl reacted to GoodBytes in is this normal in windows 10 April update?
    Possibilities:
You used a system tweak tool to do stuff to Windows, and it did stuff to Windows Update with or without your knowledge. Did you install  some software to try to (doesn't really work) disable telemetry data, or disable other stuff? If you go to: Settings > Accounts > E-Mail & Accounts, you have somewhere your school, work, or company e-mail. If so, select it, and remove it. Restart your computer after.

Don't know where that $800 price came from, is it for this HP Stream 14 or another laptop? HP Stream 14 is like $199 at most, with some places at $250 tops. Your 2 month old laptop is still under warranty, so contact HP.

I had these issues for months until I dealt with Gigabyte and EVGA over the phone a few times.  PSU overheating due to power draw and ECO mode not bringing fans online fast enough.

Grab a new PSU to test, I would look at that first and foremost.

Edit:  Just reread the "green" part.  Everything on the screen turns green?  Can you get another GTX 1080 to test?

so i bought a Corsair K65 LUX RGB (mx red) to take to school with me, because i get pain in my hands from using laptop keyboards.

but when i got it just now the box was smashed up and there was a fair dent in the box of the K65 itself. when i got it out, the page-up key cap was loose inside of the plastic..
i reattached it and to my surprise it seems to be working just fine.. i'm typing this on it right now....

i'm wondering whether LTT is anti-Linux..

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from soldier_ph in an amazing resurrection of some hardware that i thought was broken beyond repair
this is gonna be a bit of a story with no actual question, but i just wanted to share this because i think it's amazing.

so about 6 months ago my pc at the time (Core 2 Quad Q9550, 8GB DDR2 a GTX 1050 and a really crappy psu) broke.
it was really strange. i was playing Overwatch, when my pc just turned off suddenly. it looked like it became unplugged somehow. then, approximately 3 seconds after it turned off, there was a big bang and a spark big enough to light up the wall behind the pc a little. safe to say, the psu died.

i inspected the motherboard and it had (still has) black spots on it. i don't know if that's just dust or something but whatever. i then immediately tested my gtx 1050 (which i bought 3 days before this happened) and happily it still worked, i'm still using it now. what's interesting is that it did break an audio mixer that was connected to the pc, so it did get some kind of a shock powerful enough to break something connected to the motherboard audio.

now for the amazing part. about a month after this i tested the board with the cpu and ram that i had in it at the time it broke, and it didn't post. i then forgot about it.
but, a few days ago a friend messaged me saying he had some old boards that he wanted to get rid of, among those a decent asus 775 board. so i told him i wanted that.
when i got it i put the cpu and ram in, and the cpu still works! only 1 of the ram sticks still work, but still i find that amazing.

it does have some issues, among those is that it randomly doesn't post so.. and i haven't tried putting an OS on it for now so i don't know how stable it is yet, but i still find that amazing.

the one lesson i learned here is to never use cheap crappy power supply's. at the time it broke that psu was 2 months old at most... and it said it was 500W so i wasn't overloading it or something. at least i don't think i was...

Ashley MLP Fangirl reacted to Enderman in CUTTING OPEN A LASER KEYSWITCH! - Bloody Gaming LK Switch Showcase
The response time claims are bs, this is not at all "stepping up to higher refresh rate"
The sensors under each key still need to be polled in order to detect a keystroke, just like a physical switch.
There is literally no difference other than replacing the 1 and 0 from a physical switch with a 1 and 0 (not literally) from an optical sensor, if anything the optical sensor will have a longer latency to change output.

Now instead of a robust metal contact "wearing out" or "corroding" (lol, when has that ever happened to a cherry keyboard) you need to worry about a laser dying which has a limited lifespan of a few thousand or tens of thousands of hours.

Sure it may be able to do 100 million keystrokes, if those keystrokes are all done within a few years.
Over-complicated, reinventing the wheel. At least they're trying new things.
Pro tip: just because it has 'lasers' in it does not mean it is good.

Yup, they come with either cherry mx reds or browns. Reds push down smooth the whole way, while browns have a little bump when they reach the point of actuation. Everyone has their own preferances though. Personally I like browns

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from GOTSpectrum in task manager RAM usage question
i believe, but i could be wrong, that cached ram is stuff you've closed but is still loaded in memory to make it open quicker when you relaunch it.  so for example when you close google chrome it keeps it in ram so it opens faster when you relaunch it.

but again, i could be wrong.

Ashley MLP Fangirl reacted to Light-Yagami in is a used Corsair AX850 worth buying?
Yeah, sure. PSUs last for ages, so if you buy a 2-3 year used one, it should work just fine for years. Though I wouldn't take it if it was pegged 100% at all times or if it was used in a case with no cooling and was overheating frequently/ never cleaned. As long as it was used in normal conditions and well taken care of, I see no issues.

It's different with GPUs, because you never know how far the owner pushed them. And how much they were used, were they running hot.. PSUs are much easier to deal with.

PLEASE get something else. A corsair CX or CXM is the minimum i would get. EVGA has also some decent options, i think.

Ashley MLP Fangirl reacted to Jaxzzzzz in Why are desktop GPUs so big & mobil GPUs not???
the actual pcb is not what makes a card large, on a desktop the cooler is what makes it a greater size, in a laptop the cooling is usually less
