Are there really overpriced for the tight integration you get with other apple products? 
My 2012 MacBook Pro (8gb ram upgraded and 500gb sad) is still running strong and I love it for the battery life (can easily get several hours w/o charger) and if I leave my iPhone at home I can still text and make calls throughout the day with no problem. 
 
1. Most Smart Keyboard cases that I have tried and actually liked have to be decently lined up before they lock into place
2. Name a single laptop that handles a i9 decently well in any simi portable form factor. Most of the blame can be placed on intel for not getting to smaller nm chips yet. 
3. Yes competition is good for everyone but most companies are not scrutinized like apple is to a nitpickly level where any little thing going wrong tries to be made into an apple is horrible article. Just look at the TWO iPhone 7s that had the battery expand in shipping. News outlets tried to blow it up into every phone does it not just the note 7 when in reality, almost any battery has a small chance of failure. 

I would have to disagree with you on that point, I have an iPhone and the OS is the best part about it. I have talked to many samsung users and they all generally agree that IOS is a super good looking design and is really easy to use. Don't get me wrong though, I know the company has done some really horrible things but their IOS is unbeatable by phone standards IMO

LTT did a video discussing whether 8gb of ram was enough, and they reported that at 13 tabs chrome crashed with 4gb of ram...
 

in my opinion they shouldn't have picked someone who first had to promise to actually use the machine. 
 
like give it to someone who is actually going to use it to it's full potential...

but yes at your budget go with a newer card. 

Windows 10 is a mess in terms of where it puts the boot loader. i have 3 240GB ssd's in my machine, and even though i only selected one of them for install, it put the bootloader on a different drive than the one i selected. 
 
so yeah you're not the only one with this problem... 

from a quick google search the answer is no. 
 
i found a workaround but that means using unofficial drivers... so i wouldn't do that. 

I don't hate apple. I like their software. windows drives me absolutely insane.

Here are the problems I have when folks resort to estimating hardware costs...
1) yes 299 may be what the pieces cost separately
2) Someone has to assemble those parts... they need to be paid
3) Someone designed those parts, they need to be paid
4) Someone performed QC and testing on those parts, they also need to be paid
5) There are costs of R&D and marketing to take into account along with "overhead" such as paying for building, and "Geniuses"
6) They need to appease the shareholder gods with ritual theft =P

why is brand loyalty stupid? if i buy 3 motherboards by asus and all work fine with no issues why would i then buy something else that's maybe €10 less, when i already trust asus?

for me bootup time is irrelevant. i don't care about a boot time of 5 or even 10 minutes. as long as the system is snappy when it's booted up. 

@mrchow19910319 i mean theoretically i could use my 2011 until the antivirus doesn't get updates anymore. and that's quite a while. so i'm probably gonna keep using this... a 2012 is tempting though. 

yeah i'm looking for a 13" mid 2012. those are quite cheap here. 

yea like i have WD drives that are quite old, i'm talking 9 years or older and still work. i almost never use them but they do work. 
 
i will agree that hdd's are just unreliable. the fact that all my main systems are ssd only is quite nice. the disadvantage is that i don't have a lot of space on them...

No brand is perfect, they all have issues. Are Macs more idiot proof than PCs? Oh hell yes they are, I'll easily admit that. Are Macbooks more reliable than shitty cheap HPs/Dell laptops? Of course they are. But let's quit the "PCs always have problems" crap those late 2000s commercials taught you.
 
My Apple worshiping cousin has run into just as many problems as anyone else I help out. He's had a dead fan, a dead HDD, a battery that bloated so large that it bent his 2012 MBP's case, thermal throttling, etc.
 
On the other hand, I baby my stuff. As a massive PC hoarder (fifty towers last time I checked, over 10 of which run 24/7), I've had it smooth. Other than a part failing every once in a blue moon (which would also happen to a Mac hoarder, everything fails eventually) it's been smooth. If you take care of your stuff and don't buy cheap garbage, you'll likely have it good. Only time I had a really rough time is when I used a Dell Inspiron. Don't even get me started on that cheap bastard. I don't think there's one part in that SOB that DIDN'T fail.
 
So point is, like the first sentence, results ALWAYS vary with computers.

I FIGURED IT OUT! You forgot to install nvidia drivers. 
If you did install drivers, use DDU to uninstall them and then install the nvidia drivers again.

not too difficult, because you can install multiple desktops on one distro. as long as the base is the same it shouldn't be difficult. like Mint is based on Ubuntu, so the commands to install stuff etc are the same on Mint and Ubuntu. 
 
say you install Mint, but you need to switch to the look and feel of Ubuntu. you can install the gnome desktop on Mint and then it's just like running Ubuntu.
