can you try booting into an Ubuntu usb and see what you can do there. can you still browse your files while in ubuntu? if you can I'd recommend plugging in a spare drive or something and making a backup using the Ubuntu live environment before you go any further.

I have tried reseating the ram but not the connectors. I will try it first thing in the morning.

both screenshots were taken on my Late 2011 15" macbook pro, running macOS 10.13.6. 
the chrome screenshot is wider because chrome's window was bigger when i took the screenshot.

I didn't ask you to update, considering 1809 has serious issues I'd recommend not to right now, and to update after these issues have been fixed. 
 
 
 
 
but on topic, I've never had this issue on 1803 so I can't really help you. 
 
also you might want to remove those screenshots because it contains stuff like your computer name.. 

Have you tried removing the r7 250 drivers before swapping out cards?

a drive that's had 5 years of use is in bad condition. 

1.3gb is typical usage for Windows 10 on a system with 16gb ram..
 
what version of Windows 10 are you running?

i've justy checked, and my files are still there. i barely have any on my Windows 10 machine because i only use it for games, but yeah. savegames and stuff are still here. 

try reinstalling Windows. it seems like Windows update is broken on your pc... 

I use pages for my word processing too. it's so much faster than Office... I guess that's the advantage of using Apple exclusive software

macOS Mojave is corrupting time machine disks for some, and Windows is deleting files. 

gpu's failing. particularly with the geforce 8600M GT and the radeon hd 6000 series cards in MacBook pro's.

Microsoft sure is going heavy handed with these new OneDrive promotions.

slow is subjective. if I have to use a system that has a dual core I notice immediately. just because I'm used to a quad core laptop and a 12 core desktop... 

I have a question. what does security have to do with replacing a display...?

do yourself a favour and install a lightweight Linux distro. that will run so much better on a cpu like that.

oh yeah it will. if I have to use systems with 8gb even then I struggle with 15 tabs. can't imagine on 4gb...

web browsing is very subjective. most people have a max of 5 tabs open at a time. I sometimes have more than 50. so... life isn't as simple as 4gb is enough for web browsing, because I've seen my browser use more than 8gb of ram on it's own. 

try downloading the drivers from nvidia directly
