the mods should just make another section for it. that's the most logical way.

Don't download drivers through gfe. Always go direct from the nvidia site. You've already done what I would suggest which is use DDU in safe mode. All I can suggest is you do it again but this time installing drivers downloaded from the site rather than GFE.

try and remove the battery from the motherboard, remove the power line from the case and let it for about 2-3 minutes to completely dischardge from any electrical charge that the capacitors may have kept. put the battery back on and try to power it up. Also use a PS/2 keyboard not a USB one  after the steps above in order to try and enter the bios. Many times USB keyboards AND USB devices in general just won't work and can cause the system to crash even before POST.

try it and let me know.

    i prefer Linux (Ubuntu)

it is lighter than Windows, doesn't send a ton of data to Microsoft, and very customizable.

the only reason i need Windows is for gaming.

OSX is very nice as well, but i don't like apple that much. (i had a 2009 macbook that apple stopped supporting for no reason at all, and i can't afford a new mac...

Honestly windows is mostly only used for gaming compatibility, microsoft suite, and adobe. Otherwise MacOS is much better and even more so linux.

well if he gets GTX 1060 then CPU is gonna bottleneck. Its better to get i7 2600 or i5 2400 cause he doesn't pay new mobo and memory for Ryzen while he can just swap a CPU and start saving up for GPU.

Don't rush anything, take your time. You're not building systems for a living. If it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit. Don't force it. Cable manage as you go, don't leave it until the end. Find a safe place to put all the screws so you don't lose any. Read the manual if you get stuck, or for those stupid front connector pins. Buy a case of beer. Honestly, it's super easy and really shouldn't take any longer than half an hour, if not less.

do cable management last, because otherwise you might put cables in the way of other hardware.

unplug your mechanical hdd when installing Windows, so you don't get confused which drive is the ssd at the install screen. it's really annoying if you accidentally install it to your hdd.

when you plug your hdd back in, and boot to Windows, the hdd won't be displayed, because it isn't formatted yet. (believe me, i thought my first brand-new drive was broken when i first plugged it in)

    not to mention dangerous!

does it take longer to go past the bios? make sure your boot order is set correctly. or else it wil spin up the hdd's first, look for an os on them, realize it isn't there and then boot to windows from the ssd.

Ashley xD reacted to NelizMastr in CPU Suddenly Hot Under Load
When a CPU runs at those temps and you can't feel the heat on the heatsink, there's a problem with heat transfer. Repaste with decent quality compound. Also, that cooler is right on the edge for this CPU. It's rated for 150W and you're running a 140W CPU, which Arctic doesn't recommend, so that might be a factor too.

Not booting when switching SATA mode from AHCI to RAID and vice versa would be normal behaviour. Install in one mode and never touch the setting again, that's how it's designed.

I'm with @firelighter487 here that your EFI partition with the bootloader is installed on the HDD instead, which is why it won't show up in the UEFI boot menu.

Ashley xD reacted to W-L in PSU RMA for GPU coil whine?
Coil whine is all luck of the draw really, sometimes different combinations of that specific PSU you have may cause whine but another unit of the same model may not so there isn't a straight and forward solution to prevent it. You can try contacting the GPU manufacture if the card you have whines in other systems some may accept it as an RMA.

With only $500 you're not gonna get a half-decent pre-built to be honest.

Though its only $550 for the next 8 hours, goes back to 760 after that.

An old i5/i7 optiplex would be a better option, throw in a 1050/ti and you'll have better performance for less cost.
