Ashley MLP Fangirl reacted to Master Disaster in Apple rumored to be working on its own non-mobile ARM processor and ditching Intel around 2020
Not true, both times Apple swapped architectures they were upgrading to a more powerful one and were able to maintain 100% compatibility through emulation.
I'm sorry but there's zero chance of Apple maintaining 100% compatibility when swapping from X86 to ARM, it's never going to happen. Imagine trying to run the X86 versions of Premiere, After Effects, FCP, Photoshop, Logic etc on an ARM CPU. Yeah, good luck with that.

Personally i think Apple are going to go down a dual CPU route. They'll stick with Intel for the bulk of the work but offload some of the more mundane operating systems tasks too a custom ARM core.
This method gives the best of both worlds, they don't have to go through months (if not years) of dealing with software incompatibilities while being able to offer support for iOS apps natively on macOS and also effectively killing the hackintosh scene dead overnight.
Obviously that's just my idea and opinion. I just don't see them ditching X86 and certainly not all in one go.

Apart from the fact that it would require rewriting all software to work on ARM. Not just Apple software, all third party applications and infact any software that exists at all.
It would cause havoc for customers.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from VanBantam in How should I got about learning Terminal for Linux?
oh one thing, never ever paste commands from the internet into a terminal if you don't know what they are. especially commands that require root. figure out how it should be used and type it manually.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from TopHatProductions115 in is it just me or is Windows 8.1 a lot less buggy than 10?
Windows 10 home is more than €140 in my country. For that price, minor issues like that shouldn't exist, especially for a year like that one.

You need Windows 10 for official Ryzen support.

so still not as good as Apple. ?♂️... if android had even near the software support Apple has i'd be a lot more tempted to invist in a high end android phone.
i really don't need much in terms of speed. i'm using an lg g3 at the moment and that's still fine for me. if only it still got updates

do a follow up playing games on it using Linux. then it will be true to the budget. now you'd have to factor Windows into the budget.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from TopHatProductions115 in has anybody got Overwatch to run smoothly on Linux yet?
i'm just giving up at this point. i've got a spare GTX 780Ti so i'm gonna use that.
and i know it's strange, but then again it is my computer. it's done stranger things in the past.

i figured out why it said error amdgpu not found. for some reason i had kernel 3.16 installed because of virtualbox host modules, and the error appeared when it was rebuilding that.
i'm rebooting now for video-linux.

I suggest clearing the CMOS (the little circular battery under the graphics card there) which will reset the BIOS settings, and should refresh any issues the PC might have to make it unable to boot.

Uhhhhh, yeah, it is. Not only is it more modular, it's also faster and more secure while also being lighter on resources and a lot more stable. It does everything better, except being accessible. So unless being more successful in the desktop market is your definition of being built well... Screw it I'm stopping right here because:
1. This is completely off topic.
2. I don't have time to argue about something that's already been debated 50,000 other times.
3. Two minutes of Google will solve this.
Have a great day, everyone. And no I'm not saying that sarcastically. lmao

This is the part where I switch to the freeBSD side of the argument to keep things interesting and heated.
