Seeing as people are still using 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen Intel CPUs, it will be an issue when Windows 10 be EOL.

For home work and budget gaming, those CPU are more than enough, locking Windows 11 to 8th gen and up WILL be an issue.

I'm dual-booting so I guess no Windows 11 for me.

also my pc is so old it doesn't even have TPM of any kind...

it's interesting to me that Microsoft would yeet so many devices as they've always wanted to be as compatible as they could with everything. they are also giving a lot of ammunition to the linux community with this, as I assume that quite a few people run computers as old as mine, that have no compatibility for either TPM or Secure Boot. these computers will of course run the latest versions of Linux totally fine...

just a workaround as i've had this happen to me for quite a while now, if you copy the video link and open it in VLC, it plays just fine.

which reason in particular? that it's very damaging for the environment or that it's insanely volatile or that it's uncontrollable by government therefore very easy to do criminal things with?

that was just because people tried to run it on systems that just weren't capable.

like, Apple fixes this by just unsupporting machines at a certain point. for example, my 2011 15" MBP has been unsupported for a while but i don't care that i can't run the latest OS. i get stutters every so often on a relatively old OS, i can't imagine what it would be like on the latest OS. would be hell with it's horrific by todays standards HD3000 gpu.

if Microsoft had just said listen you need a core duo at least for Vista, everything would have been fine. when i was a kid we had a HP prebuilt machine that was beefy for the time (3.something ghz core 2 duo iirc, 4gb of ram and an upgraded Radeon GPU) and that ran vista like a dream.

i mean as long as you put a cycle on the battery once a month (ideally once every 2 weeks) you should be fine. the problem starts happening when it's never unplugged. i bought a cheap 2017 MBP a good while ago now, and i almost immediately discovered why it was cheap. the battery was completely gone. if it was below 50% it would have random shutdowns and it didn't last more than an hour usually until getting a random shutdown no matter how careful i was.

and this damage was due to it having never been unplugged for years, therefore the battery didn't get really any cycles on it.

uh no that is how batteries work. if you leave them for weeks without putting a cycle on them they will deteriorate very very fast.
