Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from da na in Why do LMG channels no longer disclose "sponsored" or "showcase" in the title?
i hate showcases as they are just ads. i was re-watching an old WAN show where linus was discussing accidentally using the wrong title for a sponsored video (back when they put showcase in titles if something was sponsored), and i noticed something.

    for example:

this one is clearly sponsored, aka a showcase, but it's not in the title. it's there in the video, but you see that only after you already clicked on it and (if you don't run adblock) have already watched a youtube ad.

iirc there have been more examples like this, clickbait title with no indication that it's sponsored until you click on it.
this feels really wrong, baiting clicks in this way, and i feel this should be addressed.

edit: the green thing saying "sponsor" is just sponsorblock if anyone was wondering, that's not a youtube feature.

that's not how it works. i disable adblock on youtube so the youtube ads roll still. what sponsirblock does is identify sponsor segments in a video and it just skips over them. kinda like how you'd hit the right arrow key a couple times to skip over the sponsor segment. it does exactly the same thing, just skips forward over the segment, but it's automated.

Similar to Twitter's block. if i block someone i don't want them to be able to view my profile or any of my posts (maybe except one's that are marked as solution to topics as i can see the use there, but i'd like replies to be blocked for those too).

as you already stated it can cause issues... that's a risk you're taking.  you could also go on ebay and buy a genuine Apple SSD from a higher capacity model of the same laptop. that should be fine since it's all genuine Apple parts.

It's not disingenuous at all. We used the same chilled water at low and high pump speeds.

Kind of disingenuous using a 40 gallon bucket of chilled water - heck you could have bought that much distilled bottled water from a couple of stores and not had to deal with cleaning/filtering.

It's not so much the flow rate that's lowering the temps here but the sheer volume of water - the more coolant you have by volume the harder it is to heat it up. Put it another way, it will soak up your systems heat and carry it away more efficiently. I have a full gallon circulating inside my loop cooling five blocks using chunky 80mm thick rads in push/pull. My res isn't a particularly big one since I had to cram it inside a 200mm space, but had I gone external with a longer 400mm one I could have gotten even more coolant. Same can be done with a split loop using two large external reservoirs - if the room temperature is set at a cool 19C your deltas will be well under 25C as well. I often sit in a 30C room (32C right now actually) and I can still run my rig at full tilt (54C on the CPU and 55C on my GPU's). In my case (no pun intended) it's the WATER TEMP that is the primary measurement which always stays below the rated pump max at 60C. Right now that water temp is 48C resulting in just a 16C delta over ambient - that's the hallmark of a well designed and well cooled system.

Dual pumps are another trick that you can employ and connecting them in series can increase head pressure - ideal for very tall builds with many bends/blocks in them, thinner diameter fittings/tubing and situations where a single D5 may be overwhelmed. My build is not excessively tall, I'm using the largest diameter tubing (7/16), only a single 90 degree fitting and I only have a single cooling chamber (pedestal) at the base, not top and bottom. The 2nd pump also works as a fail safe should one pump not get power or the bearings fail and quit working. For a parallel connection to increase flow rate you would use separate dual loops instead. It's not impossible to build a system with as many as FOUR separate loops each going to a large external reservoir, 8 pumps for redundancy, and probably more like 2 to 3 gallons of total coolant.

Finally. this is also a great reminder why you should never push those pathetic budget AIO coolers - much weaker pumps with lower flow rates and lower temperature limits. That last part is what kills them prematurely because the volume of coolant they have to work with is very minimal. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual liquid temps inside an AIO exceed 60C. It may not die immediately, but it WILL die sooner than you think.

Here's a great video idea for Alex - attach a water temp sensor to some AIO coolers and see just how hot they get. I can guarantee some of them will be going beyond their pump temperature limit.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from NovaViper in How to install Windows 11 on QEMU, to emulate supported hardware and get all updates, even on an unsupported host computer.
this guide will cover installing Windows 11 on a qemu VM in linux, that allows you to emulate both secure boot and TPM 2.0 even if the host computer has no support for either.

    what do you need:
    - linux install. i recommend manjaro for this as some stuff we need is very easy to install due to it's Arch base.
    - enough drive space for the VM (i recommend 64gb)
    - windows 11 iso, get that from microsoft's website.

step 1: install all the packages we need. open a terminal and type: sudo pacman -S iptables-nft qemu virt-manager libtpms edk2-ovmf

    step 2: add yourself to the kvm group to make the virtual machine manager play nicely: sudo usermod -aG libvirt ${USER} && sudo usermod -aG kvm ${USER}

step 3: open virt-manager and make a new VM:

    select the following options:
    local install media
    select your iso file
6144 for ram (that's 6gb, 4gb on 11 is a bit slow) and as many cpu cores as you want to spare
virtual disk same thing, make one however big you wish, 64gb is minimum
    check "customize hardware before install
    click finish.

    you'll now see this:

we need to make some changes here.
for firmware, select the one with secure boot:

that will enable our virtual secure boot, which we need to make sure the VM thinks it's supported.

then, go to "add hardware" on the bottom left.
near the bottom of the list select TPM, and make sure it's configured like this:

this is our emulated TPM 2.0.

click finish at the bottom right, then begin installation at the top left.

install WIndows 11 like you would in any VM, and you'll now have a fully functional VM even on unsupported hardware.

here are some screenshots of it running on my dual Xeon X5650 machine, which does not have UEFI or TPM of any kind. and yet, it get full updates and no issue even joining the insider program, due to the OS thinking it's running in a supported configuration 🙂

    here's my system specs:

and here is my windows 11 VM:

I had a touchscreen laptop for a couple of years, I used the touchscreen quite rarely... It felt like a huge gimmick. The screens are usually worse than non-touch screens, they usually have weird hinge mechanisms, and the OS is also modified to handle touch better to the detriment of regular keyboard and trackpad/mouse users... I hope Apple doesn't go that route

I used it to draw on and read a book. But that is a 2 in 1. On a normal laptop I don't really see a use for it.

It's a market segment that is super niche, and is probably best utilized when you are using an external display for presentations, and navigating via touch.

It's also very nearly pointless, a complete waste of engineering development, and one more thing preventing actual progress in the laptop segment.

i had that exact thing but with Windows 🤣

i had constant issues like it forcing updates when i got home from school (i had a shitty pc at that time, having windows update running in background nuked my fps), etc etc. i keep saying this, if you know how to use it, linux is fine. but as with anything, you have to invest some time into learning the OS first.

like, for example right, if i had to reinstall a windows system i'd have to get all my settings the way i like them again, install all my crap through a browser and a bunch of installers.. takes me hours to do. for Linux, i have a custom iso file that runs a script after install that adjusts my settings and installs all my crap for me. takes like 10 minutes to set up a linux install that way.
