    dammit, i got an old gaming laptop with a 120hz screen off of a friend and now 60hz looks like balls, i need to buy a 120hz monitor for my desktop now...

    wait seriously? that's so stupid. where i live if you have an unlimited data plan it really is unlimited. no matter if it's hotspot or not.

    i honestly am not sure. maybe ask on the MacRumors forum, you'll likely have better luck there. the newest Mac i have is a 2015 MBP so... i can't be of much help.

    lol. i like RGB if it's set to white. regardless on a tight budget it's better to not go RGB and just buy quality fans. if you cheap out you'll regret it immediately.

    no it can't. and no they do care. if you tell them hey you don't need to spend €1000 on a new pc if you just clean your existing one will for sure listen to you.

    i'm happier with a silent well cooled pc than with a loud overheating one that happens to have unicorn vomit lighting. also, RGB is not clean. except it'll be loud, you won't have good airflow (an airflow case does nothing without good fans) and cheap fans often fail early so you'll have to open it up again to replace them a lot.

    i don't know of a way to do it like you describe, but if you use Chrome, you can do this, should do the trick. just make sure both laptops are signed in to the same google account.

    nobody needs RGB. that's a fact. i'd get a quality fan over a cheapskate RGB one every time.

    in theory if it's a problem it shouldn't be turning on at all if it were the issue. since yours still turns on i'd say that's not the problem.

    a few things to note. Windows 10 is a lot lighter on resources than modern versions of macOS, because Windows 10 is an OS from 2015. i bet if you installed Windows 11 on your computer, being a modern OS, would make it unusable. also, while you might be able to get away with a low spec system, someone else could not. you don't know what OP uses their Mac for. what if they wanna edit video? play guitar through it using a DAW? what if they do some programming? you simply don't know.

    stupid question but does your laptop have a DVD drive? when USB booting is fussy for me sometimes booting from DVD still works...

    how is windows search still this bad. i searched for rufus, which is literally in my downloads folder, and it couldn't find it. 

     

    meanwhile my PowerMac G5 made in 2004, running an OS made in 2005, will very happily find random files buried deep in my user folder somewhere.

      best way to use search is if its in the same folder or near it, if you're searching from a random place either it wasnt indexed or it will search for a long time..

    they are fantastic. i also upgraded the SSD in mine, you do need an adaptor from china for that cuz apple doesn't use standard NVME, but it works. this Mac used to have a 128gb SSD, now it's got this:

    i'm very pleased that after a year and a half of owning my 2015 MBP there's still no screen delamination.

     

    the early Retina's are nutorious for it, you'll find hundreds on ebay with horrible screens, but mine is still fine. it was an amazing deal too, so, worked out in the end.

      My MBP is a 2019 so I'm kinda screwed when it comes to internals 😄

      Maybe once I can justify the cost and after the technology matures, I'll buy one of the Apple Silicon models.

    i'm in one of the most irritating situations with buying tech.

     

    i bought an SSD on sunday, they said it would be delivered tuesday. due to delays it wasn't delivered tuesday, in fact according to the tracking number thing it hadn't even been sent to me at all. so i called them wednesday first thing in the morning and told them to cancel that order. they said ok we'll cancel it. 

     

    i then immediately purchased the same SSD from a different store that wouldn't have delays, since i need it kinda urgently. i had a drive die and now have around 800GB of stuff that isn't backed up anywhere, the dead drive was the backup. since the first store said sure we'll cancel it and you'll have your money back in a few days, i thougth everything was fine. i'm getting the SSD from the second store either today or tommorow, so i thought everything was all good. 

     

    however, the first store emailed me saying they couldn't cancel and that i should just wait and then return the product. so i'm now gonna have a pain in the ass situation of having to receive something i don't even want anymore, probably with my luck early in the morning which will wake me up cuz it'll probably arrive in the weekend, and then having to return it. 

     

    even worse is that i won't get my money back until the thing is returned. so i'll have to wait now for i don't even know how long, they haven't even given me an estimated timeframe, and then return it to the same place probably with the same delays cuz they use some obscure delivery company, and then i'll get my money back. that could easily become 2 weeks or more. really irritating.

     

    i'm avoiding the first store for a while after this, what a stupid situation. i've had numerous emails and 2 phone calls about it and they are just like eh whatever just return it once you get it. how hard is it to cancel a fucking order, it wasn't even sent when i told them to cancel it.

      I can't stand sellers that mark things as shipped because they printed a label. Automated tracking systems  should not count it as shipped until the first bit of movement happens because of this.
