Windows Update just did its thing after my PC shut down unexpectedly. Now I am getting the following error message whenever trying to open Chrome. What is the problem and how should I deal with it?

the problem is that for some reason your chrome shortcut was set in internet explorer's files. Windows Update recently pushed an update that deletes internet explorer, hence your shortcut is gone.

manually pinning Chrome to the taskbar should fix it.

  2. tldr my question is does steam in home streaming do 120hz?

    long question:

i recently got my friends old laptop cuz he upgraded, due to the laptop having some issues. the battery shorted out and fried the charging circuit, so it doesn't boot with a battery installed, and the laptop has cooling issues (thanks a lot HP), but, it has a 120hz screen. all pc monitors i have are 60hz.

due to the battery and cooling issues i have to run the 7700HQ in the laptop without turbo boost and to prevent it shutting down due to power reasons i have to limit the 1060 in it to 90% power. as a result the only games the laptop can run at 120fps are esports games like Overwatch.

but i was thinking, i could run my gaming pc headless and use steam in home streaming to the laptop to take advantage of the 120hz screen without overloading the laptop.

    would this work?

  3. i disagree with most of your rant. most of my computers are pretty janky (as i don't have a lot of money), mostly built from used hardware, and i don't have any of the issues you mentioned.

Windows 11's requirement for a microsoft account is very easy to bypass if you know how, and even if you don't it takes 2 minutes to google that.

as for the black screen after installing the nvidia drivers, i have a laptop with a GTX 1060 (again, janky, old laptop from a friend that is quite temperamental) and i've never had it just black screen purely because of drivers.

in general it is true that pc gaming is more complicated than console gaming, but i'd argue that that is pc gaming's strength too in a way, because it's a lot more versitile. you can trade quality for fps, you can mod games, you can overclock your hardware, etc. none of those things are possible on a console. you're stuck with the shitty 30fps experience and no mods on a console.

In the case of US carriers only data used by your phone is unlimited. Once you teather or hotspot you are subject to usage limits. In my case it’s 4 Gigs per line.

wait seriously? that's so stupid. where i live if you have an unlimited data plan it really is unlimited. no matter if it's hotspot or not.

That still leaves the main reason I started the topic and the first response gave the answer but of course just looking for validation responses.

Are the components locked together or can I swap logic boards to upgrade ram, cpu, or potentially both? as both are soldered on the board

i honestly am not sure. maybe ask on the MacRumors forum, you'll likely have better luck there. the newest Mac i have is a 2015 MBP so... i can't be of much help.

chill guys. I now rgb is useless but for first time I want build something that looks good to me. some one dont like rgb I respect.

lol. i like RGB if it's set to white. regardless on a tight budget it's better to not go RGB and just buy quality fans. if you cheap out you'll regret it immediately.

And you know how well that works with non-pc-enthausiasts. They don't care. But people will care when fancy stuffs get dusty >>> RGB can be a real world benefit.

no it can't. and no they do care. if you tell them hey you don't need to spend €1000 on a new pc if you just clean your existing one will for sure listen to you.

That's why my reasoning is so valid. My GF would let her hardware get really dusty, and call thermal throttling issues "it's old, needs replacing". After I had her build her own PC, where she picked all the (fancy) parts, she does notice the dust. And because it's more then just a PC to her, she will clean it more often.

you could also have just explained that she needs to clean it. no need for RGB to do that.

But to be serious: there are multiple benefits to having RGB. Like being happy with your PC. Or proud of what you put together. And thus wanting to keep it clean.

i'm happier with a silent well cooled pc than with a loud overheating one that happens to have unicorn vomit lighting. also, RGB is not clean.

And once you've got your cooling well under control (good airflow case, no crazy OC, temps under control with empty fan spots), it can be very fun and nice, to add cheapskate RGB fans to the system. It's unlikely to make it worse

except it'll be loud, you won't have good airflow (an airflow case does nothing without good fans) and cheap fans often fail early so you'll have to open it up again to replace them a lot.
