  1. also if selling it is too much of a hassle to you, there's charities you can give it to, they'll pass it on to someone who cannot afford a computer.
  2. it's less than a few hundred for sure. it's maybe a hundered. i'd buy it though, seems like a nice laptop still

see the thing is my monitor is from 2008. it's a nice display, 1920x1200 and nice colours (i like old displays they always look very warm in terms of colour temperature) but it means that it needs about 5 minutes to warm up when it turns on. so if my computer turns it off after say 10 minutes i have to deal with that warm up time every time.
  4. converting to uefi like others have suggested is a huge pain in the ass. if you use https://rufus.ie/en/ to make a Windows 11 installer you can tell it to disable all the checks, it'll install just fine if you do that on legacy bios. the only catch is that when a new version of Windows 11 releases for example 22H2, you have to update to it manually, you can't do that through Windows update. you'll get normal security updates though so you only need to worry about that like twice a year whenever Microsoft releases a major update.
  5. can you check network adaptor settings? that should show if your pc thinks it's connected to 100mbps or gigabit Windows Settings shows it here:
  6. stupid question but have you checked if those switches you mentioned are gigabit?

adaptive charging is good since it protects the battery from wearing out so fast. saves you money. windows complaining because i don't want my pc to go to sleep if i leave it doing something while going out for a cigarette is insanely stupid though.

Even on IOS they have this, adaptive charging to determine when fast charging should be used.

i had to take apart my portable AC unit today c…

why would i? my cpu doesn't go above 60c
  10. there's 48 listings on ebay, had a quick look.
  11. you do realize that making custom versions of Windows is illegal?
  12. i have an ancient Benq monitor from 2008 and it looks the same. it's probably just how youtube renders that effect. the reason why i mentioned my displays age is because it's about the farthest thing from your monitor (traditional LCD, not even using HDMI, etc etc) and still it does the same thing
  13. the current tech market is stupid anyways. a 12th gen i3 has the same number of cores and threads as a 7700K, and because of the newer architecture is basically as fast as that cpu. imo unless you need top end performance the high end tech market makes no sense at all. a core i3 paired with a midrange gpu is nowhere near slow... most software just hasn't caught up to the rapid advancement in power at the high end.
  14. i had to take apart my portable AC unit today cuz the radiator was clogged with dust. powered it up for the first time this year as it is really humid (86% outside rn) and i hate that, and noticed it wasn't getting anywhere near as cold as i remember it getting. after cleaning the dust out of it it's a lot better, it's keeping my appartment a nice temperature and 42% humidity which is cozy.

  15. sadly i doubt it, given that the Mac doesn't output the boot screen due to the gpu. still, this is much better than disconnecting drives etc as it should boot to macOS even with the Windows drive connected, since PRAM reset will simply reset the startup disk...
  16. why would i want to change Windows's sound and display server? my sound and display output works perfectly. source? Windows can run basically all emulators and it's so backwards compatible you can run a lot of classics from the DOS/9x era on modern Windows. you clearly have never met my dad. he manages to make a good computer lag with excel. he asked me to upgrade his pc with more ram once because he complained it slowed down if he opened too many excel documents while also having a browser open. his machine has a 4770 in it by the way, an 8 thread cpu. i don't need to disable anything on my Windows 11 machine either. it runs fine totally stock on my 4670K with 16GB of ram. that's the point i was trying to make, Atlas is a dumb OS.
  17. i live an hour away by train from my parents and i don't have a car... fantastic idea.
  18. actually that could be a fix for this. if you want to boot macOS again just reset PRAM like that and it should default to macOS again.
  19. that's bad... maybe try clearning PRAM, that should reset the startup disk. to do this, with the computer shutdown, hold down command, option/alt, p and r when booting, it'll bong, restart and bong again. once you hear the second bong release the keys, it should boot to macOS then, with the windows drive disconnected.
  20. ah. it's trying legacy mode for Windows for some reason, hence it fucks up. have you actually been able to boot into macOS at all?
  21. ah yes i'd love to get a phone call from my mom randomly "what's the admin password i'm trying to update chrome"
  22. i have a 2008 Mac Pro with an aftermarket graphics card, so i know the pain. what's odd is if you unplug the windows drive it doesn't boot. it should boot to the next available device but it doesn't seem to detect the macOS drive... can you explain that in more detail? maybe provide a picture of what it's displaying when you do that?
  23. the BIOS seems to think around 40c too... weird... i can't help you further unfortunately since i have no experience with hardware this new, you'll have to wait for someone who knows this platform to see this.
  24. go into the bios of your motherboard, and take a look at it's temperature readings. it looks something like this:
