something interesting i've noticed. Pop music in USA and Europe is all digital autotuned crap, with no real instruments in it basically ever, unless it's an "alternative" artist like MGK.
but, i've been listening to tons of J-Pop lately and that has guitars and drums, even some shredding. very interesting to see the contrast. -
some call used hardware unreliable. i call it pre-tested.

But for how long? If they’ve all got enough writes on them yet to be useful there is that. The pre tested thing is valid in this case. SSDs as I understand it don’t get flakey before they die. They work till they suddenly don’t. Good for only one more write has certain uses with SSDs though. At least that’s how I understand it. My understanding is not deep though. There is always a reason things get sold used. Sometimes it’s just “I got a better one” which is common enough with video cards. Less so with SSDS though. Even a slow ssd is still fast.

I’ve had some bad luck from used and refurbished laptops from the 2000 to 2010 era. Not so much from more modern hardware.

time to show off my latest Mac. a Late-2006 MacBook Pro.
I paid €30 for this beast. it's got a few dead keys on the keyboard, but nothing I can't work around. I've installed 10.6 and 10.7 dual boot, put an SSD in it, it's an absolute beast. the battery still holds a charge too and lasts for about an hour, which is really good for a Mac this old.
aside from some scratches and small dents on the corners it's in really good condition. also, big shout out to https://github.com/blueboxd/chromium-legacy for maintaining an up-to-date version of Chromium that runs on 10.7, so I don't even need Linux on here to get an up-to-date web browser which is super useful.
I mainly bought this to add to my Mac collection, but in playing around with it I discovered that it's an amazingly capable system still. as long as you work within it's limits, mainly the 2gb of ram, it can still browse the web, do office work etc. you'd need an up to date OS for serious work obviously but it can still do it.
I'm super happy with it, shoutout to the seller who packaged it really well and didn't scam me
if you've read this far enjoy this picture, 2015 MBP on the left, iMac G3 on the right and the 2006 MBP right in the middle.
ps. iMac G3 isn't broken, the stripe that you see on it's display is the result of the CRT refresh rate not matching the camera.
