  1. I don’t know if this has been mentioned but IMO it’s quite obvious that this allows Google to know specifically who is a marketable audience (people with money) and who is actually a real person. Lots of YT accounts are bots. Forcing the link of ID allows for a very targeted advertising strategy.

The whole censorship conspiracy thing comes off as a bit tinfoil hat. I guess maybe YT may also use it to block videos they don’t like, but I think a profit motive is the clearest incentive here.

What happens when the basin heats up as a result of this?

I reckon the idea is that the rate of energy input < rate of energy output. Higher temperatures require drastically more energy to maintain, so this should not result in too much temperature difference. I'm not sure about any aquatic life in the basin (anyone have info?) that might still be negatively affected by even a small change in temperature, however.

if it can be fixed with hacks then who cares.

Not nearly as bad as the xbox's clock capacitor that leaks and destroys the whole board. But plenty of people know how to fix those these days. Plus if a ps4 dies , just buy another one.

These publications seem, however, to be focusing on the long term possibilities of the console. They still want to have working PS4s in 20 years. So buying a new one wouldn't be such an easy option. But yeah, a CMOS battery dying and causing problems like these is a bit silly.

  4. Try undervolting. It's not dangerous at all. It's exactly the same process as overclocking but you're just keeping your clocks at stock and dropping your voltage. It takes some fiddling to get it right but it makes a big difference in how much heat your card will be putting out.

Did you reapply thermal paste? That might also help, especially if the card is older/ has been through a lot of heat cycles.

  5. Very well overclocked 980ti is basically equal to a 1070ti stock. The 1070ti also has Freesync support, which makes a big difference. It also uses dramatically less power.

I have a 980ti I bought used for a great price. I love it, but I would swap for a 1070ti if I had the chance. Atm with the market it's quite difficult to do though.

OS weight isn't the issue, instruction translation is. DirectX only games have to be fed through a translator to turn them into something Linux can understand, this comes at a performance cost.

I wonder if it would be possible to use ASIC hardware to do that at minimal performance loss, then use a very lightweight Linux distro to end up with better performance. Of course it's not really applicable to OP's case, but I'd imagine enthusiasts with already top-end hardware might be interested in squeezing some more performance out of their machines.

    Hello,

I actually have the exact same problem, but with a laptop. I can say it's certainly coil whine of some sort because the sound comes from the machine even with the sound turned off, and it's probably not caused by the mouse (I have an older, but still good quality razer mouse), rather by the laptop's motherboard. I don't think there is an easy fix for it, at least in my case, as all the USB ports cause the sound to appear when the mouse is plugged in and moving. Also, side note, the sound is much stronger when I'm moving the cursor over windows then if moved over the plain desktop.

If anyone has any idea, please help. It's driving me nuts.

Is the sound present both while plugged in and on battery power? Also, try turning off your separate graphics card and using the iGPU. Try a different USB port, perhaps on the other side of the laptop, to try minimise any interference from the port.

You can, but it won't operate in the way I think you're hoping.

You can use the old GPU to run the 144Hz display, but you can't use the other GPU to actually run the game for the 144hz monitor and just have the old GPU as an output, you'd have to run the game on the old GPU.

Would it not operate the same as plugging a monitor into your iGPU? I would imagine it would just act as another port and allow you to process what you're running with the more powerful GPU. Isn't that why cards like the GT710 exist, as essentially just display adapters?

Does Samsung want me to be happy that they crippled my 65 inch TV with a software update so it’s apps, WiFi, or internet connectivity don’t work anymore?

Sustainability starts when they stop crippling products to make people buy new ones.

Agreed. This is a shitty PR stunt. Yes, the idea is cool, but there are already so many easy alternatives to it if that's something you actually want to do.

I have a very expensive 75" "Smart" TV sitting at home that can't connect to wifi or do anything related to "smart" functions because Samsung just decided to no longer support it. That is the kind of thing that encourages e-waste.

Thank you for your answer :)

If i might ask you another question, do you think i can get away with a 650w PSU for a 10700kf + gtx1080 + 2x 8gb of ram?
A quick check on a PSU calculator makes me feel its gonna be tight but possible under high workload :/

650w is plenty. Whether I’d run it depends on the PSU itself. Wattage rating =/= quality. You could always make a post on the PSU section of the forum. They have good knowledge to help you.

  11. Sounds to me like memory or some power component overheating.

As a last case I’d try the card in a different PC or a different power supply. Might even be your RAM and not the graphics card at all.

I’d just send it in for warranty repair if it still has one. Clearly a manufacturing defect since the card is so new still.

    So did some listening.

Massively torn between DT770 and K371.

The 770 has more character to it's audio and the ruggedness/repairability. Very slightly prefer the sound.

K371 is a bit more 'boring' but lighter, more comfortable for me and more portable. There is also the bluetooth option. Still really like the sound though just seems to lack the edge/quirks of the 770s. Easy to drive, even compared to the 80Z flavour of he 770s

Didn't like the 990 quite as much as the 770s

M40x despite being panned a bit now, can see why they're widely recommended. Not in the same league but fun to listen to and affordable. Slightly preferred SRH440 sound but was a bit less engaging and uncomfortable on my head.

    Indecision time!

I found my DT770s to get much better after a fair few hours of listening. Brand new they were disappointing (I imported them so I was stuck with them) but now they sound awesome, and it’s great to have the tank-like durability. The 80 ohm model can be used decently with a phone or laptop. Not sure about the 250 ohm. Only issue I have is the very long cable, which can be fixed for not too much money, especially if you DIY it.

33 grand is nuts. Not that he will see any of it.

I think it’s great. Even if this only lasts a year or two, if that money goes straight into an investment and they just forget about it for a long time that is a huge safety net. Might mean debt free education or a very solid house down payment.

That's true but 8 is really young... reaction times aside you also need to understand game mechanics and the meta really well which is hard for a child. It's impressive for him to be able to do that at a pro level.

He’s gotten loads of coaching as well though. Kids start rugby and American football at about 5 or 6 as well and start playing real games very quickly. At least he won’t have a broken body by the time he’s 25.

Mozart composed his first piece at 5 IIRC. Given training and good guidance kids are very capable. Again, I just hope his back and wrists are taken care of.

  14. Honestly good for him. Kids start physical sports very early as well so it really just makes sense that eSports would do the same thing. And in eSports younger people are actually the ones with the physical advantage due to faster reaction times (as @BuckGup said).

I very much hope he takes care of his back and wrists though. Sports injuries are still a thing for eSports, and sitting all day is not great for a body.

  15. I would take that deal in a heartbeat. A GPU that is bottlenecked by a 5820k will also be bottlenecked by a 6700 anyway. And it’s very easy to OC the 5820K to an equivalent performance level (while using a fair bit more power). If you are heavily multitasking it will make a big difference having the extra cores, and it’s easy to upgrade RAM on X99.

Basically this is a great trade for you. Provided of course that there is nothing wrong with the hardware. If you trust the person you’re trading with and you know it works I’d go for it. It’s a win for you
