  1. Yep cmos was the first thing I tried. Ive been thinking it may be time to rebuild/replace the board I mainly bought this one for the 8 sata ports. I kind of dread breaking this system down it has tons of mechanical drives etc and other than today was running as nicely as you could want.
  2. I bought this kit recently, mainly for the 9 sata ports however it seems like a decent board other than the vram could be better cooled, however that could be said of may chinese upcycled boards. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805347067105.html
  3. So before I shut down to clean out my fans etc as I do every 6 months or so since I ive in a dusty area my media system recognized all 32 gigs of two kits of dd4 one teamgroup running at 3k and a samsung kit at 2400 since the board has a max supported speed of 2400 they actually managed to run in quad channel. When I rebooted however the board was firmly stuck on boot code 67 meaning it was failing to load past cpu. So I first pulled all except one stick of the samsung leaving that in slot 1 on channel 1 same thing error code 67. Ok, interesting I suppose i could have kiilled a memory channel rebooting unlikely and this board has been solid for 3 years but possible. So i moved the stick over to slot one channel 2 and it posted! Ok odd but for what I use it for i dont really care if memory is in optimum config. I move all 4 sticks to channel 2 and again code 67 I pull the team group leaving channel 2 half populated with the samsung post and os load. At this point I gave up grabbed a 32 kit of eec ddr 4 i had on hand for a different project and tried it on channel 1 posted fine. id try a bios flash though im leerly since it is working all my drives are recognized etc. not really looking for advice just seemed odd that it would stop recognizing a kit that had worked fine after a simple reboot.
  4. Ive been pondering this very question for the last two days. The real problem im having is justifying the extra cost for a z series mobo. those really seem to be all thats available for the coffeelake cpu's right now. I can get a decent b350 for about 2/3 of what the cheapest z370 costs.
  5. I have been running Windows 10 as lean as possible however it just seems like a pretty bloated OS (xbox services that randomly restart even though i dont own an xbox so where are those disabled services even getting a start command from?) I could see doing this however I am worried about certain games not loading or refusing to run in anything other than DX11.
  6. I dont think so I tested with two known good psu's with the same result. I also tried it with an i5 2400 with the same results, Im starting to think i just ended up with a broken board.
  7. for generic use and medium resolution video core2is fine. for gaming not so much. However as I think about it a 35 dollar PI would work just as well for generic use and medium resolution video. pick your poison i guess
  8. Im building a budget system from used parts, I have an i5 3470, and an mq77dk motherboard ive purchased off of ebay. The system works the odd thing is I plug an old rx 250 (single slot low power card) works fine the board see it video initializes everything is golden I plug in an Asus 750ti strix card works all is gold i plug in an rx480 nothing bios shows the slot as unpopulated and only onboard video will work. the rx480 works fine, in fact im using it on the machine im typing this post on. The only thing i can think of is maybe the power draw is too high. there is literally nothing available on google and im at my wits end on this.
  9. I have to agree with the other posters, the single biggest performance booster would be the new GPU.
  10. i see the xeons going for 100 or so though the asus is pretty limited according to the cpu list at the site. I do think your correct i may turn into an htpc or something but its just not a good idea to get caught up in building a system around a 5 year old motherboard and cpu.
  11. So I decided to finally switch from AMD to Intel then I got cold feet and decided to wiggle my toes in the water first I bought one of these as a base Custom Quad Core Desktop Computer Intel I5-2400 3.1GHz 8GB 320GB Windows 10 It came with a intel mobo so no over clocking and the ram was only1333 and a stock cooler. I immediately took out the hd and cloned it to a spare 120 ssd with a 1tb wd i had for storage I put in a spare evo 212 as well for cooling and a 450 corsair +b for power the next upgrade im contemplating on a rig I have yet to even activate windows on is replacing the mobo with an Asus P8P67-M (REV 3.0) a friend traded me for a cpl packs of MTG cards so at least i know it works. i am also pondering upgrading the cpu to maybe a xeon something since the Ivy Bridge i7's are more than im really willing to spend at this point in the game. According to Asus though i can use only 1 e3-1230 1230v2 and 1245v2 so I may just opt for an ivy-bridge i5. I plan on swapping out the 1060 from my current amd build along with the ram the ssd etc I would be using this thing for maybe 3 months while I save my gilders for a decent 1151 based system with a 6790k or so My fear is im really just better off keeping my 8350 system while I wait for Zen instead of just switching over to Blue
