Just out of curiosity I guess.

The 2nd gpu that of not same brand and model will not work as I imagined in my head, I guess.
Without bridge/SLI, I thought that I can use both gpu for 2 monitors. Each monitor hook up to each one.

    Appreciate the feedback tho. Thanks

I am proud to present "Aeris Lignea"   Aeris Lignea, which means Copper and Wood, is a custom built computer desk with the computer and water cooling system integrated into the desk. The desk was entirely designed and built by me over the course of the last 6 months.   Before starting this project, I had never welded steel or sweated copper pipe. I learned as I went and made many practice pieces before attempting the real thing.   Once I had decided on the materials I wanted to use for the main desk construction, I started to design it out on paper. The biggest challenge I was going to face was that I wanted to make sure all the computer and cooling components stayed inside the 8" wide I beam. I had to custom build all the mounts for every component to achieve this. I needed to use PCI-E Riser cables to extend from the motherboard to the 3 PCI-E cards (2x GPU's and 1 NIC).   Another challenge was that I did not want any SSD's or HDD's visible. This is why I went with just the 2x M.2s. However since I am a video production guy, I needed to have a large amount of storage. To achieve this I actually built a separate 36TB storage server. This is housed in one of the other areas in the office. The desk system and the storage server are connected via a 10gb network. I am getting sustained transfer speeds of around 800MB/s.   Here are the specifications for the desk and computer: Desk Components - The frame is constructed out of 8" wide steel I-Beam. - The desktop is 2" thick African Zebra Wood. The two reservoir and pump towers are also made from Zebra Wood. - All the copper piping is 100% functional. They are carrying the water to and from the computer and cooling components.   Computer Components: -CPU: Intel i9-7980XE Delidded and Overclocked to 4.5Ghz -RAM: 128gb Corsair DDR4 running at 2666mhz -Motherboard: MSI X299 Gaming M7 ACK -GPUs: 2x EVGA 1080Ti Kingpin Hydrocopper Edition OC'd to 2083mhz -Storage: 2x Samsung 960 EVO 1TB nVME M.2 SSDs -PSU: EVGA 1600w P2 with full custom sleeved cable's by me (using Teleios Carbon Sleeving). Network: ASUS 10gb Network adapter -Audio: Schiit Audio Modi2 DAC and Valhalla2 Tube Amplifier with Beyerdynamic DT770 250ohm headphones.   Cooling Components (Dual Loop System): -Pumps: 4x EKWB D5s -Reservoirs: 4x EKWB 250mL X3s -Waterblocks: EKWB Monoblock -Radiators: 2x EKWB 480mm Coolstream XE -Fans: 8x Coolermaster Masterfan Pro AirBalance -Piping: 1/2" Copper -Fittings: EKWB Compression -Flow Meters: LZT M15 Mechanical Fluid Meter   Some fun specs: -Total weight of the desk is roughly 600lbs. -There is 87ft of copper tubing to complete the watercooling runs. -There are 120 copper fittings, all of which needed to be sweated together -All the copper piping has been sprayed with a matte clear coat finish to protect them from turning green over time. -The total volume of coolant for the system is 9.7L. -To fill the loops I need to use a 500gph pond pump to force the water into the system. I can have both loops filled and purged of air within 15 minutes. -Over 90% of the wiring is not visible unless you are on your back looking at the bottom of the desk. -The LED lighting on the desk is actually the Philips HUE light strips so they can be controlled even if the computer is off. The overall size of the desk is 7ft wide, 3.5ft deep, and 33" tall.   I need to give a HUGE shout-out to my wife for letting me do this. I spent more time away from home trying to get this thing done than I probably should have. I also need to give a massive shout out to Dave at Hughes Manufacturing. It was his shop that I did the majority of the fabrication. He taught me everything about welding and sweating copper pipe. I couldn't have pulled this off without him.   If you have any questions about this project, please feel free to ask!   For a full built log, please visit this link: https://www.cmws.global/modderszone/xtc-mortuus/blog-posts   Thank you for looking!

    Keeping the AMD machine going....

    So, First the serious part:
Super short article, but has some good bits of information. Apparently AMD and is partnering with Team Red of F1. This will do well to help AMD with getting into automotive tech with their competition Nvidia. The difference? Nvidia has GPU's being used for AI cars, which lets face it, is probably further down the road than AI enthusiasts would like. Formula 1 does a lot for technological advancement for production cars, so if AMD is able to get their hands in on some technological developments that will be able to go mainstream in the future, that could definitely bode well for them.

As many of you probably know, Formula 1 cars are not AI, so I would imagine many of the technological assets in their portfolio would be utilized for possibly machine learning for increasing car and driver efficiency. This report is rather vague; however, another article discussed another reason for AMD's integration with Team Red. For any Americans who watch football, then you've probably seen the commercials about Amazon and Intel using AI for better sports analysis. It appears AMD could be doing this for the automotive sports. The majority of F1 focuses around a car being driven around by a human driver, and constant feedback and analysis is needed by teams in order to gain an advantage during the race. AMD's partnership with Ferrari could be very beneficial to both sides.

What are your thoughts about this partnership? Do you think this could be AMD trying to expand beyond the CPU and GPU market and become relevant in other avenues as well?

On the bright side, this was announced at the Chinese Grand Prix, and Team Red won. Ferarri has

The Verge published an article listing some of the new laptops from Gigabyte, Asus, Acer, and Samsung that will be using Intel's new Coffee Lake-based 6-core i5 and i7 chips.
This last bit makes me laugh: "Processors don't matter as much to gaming(outside of VR) as a modern GPU". As if you don't need a powerful CPU just to keep up with a 1080Ti.

The first one on the list to ship with Intel's new Coffee Lake mobile chips is the Acer Nitro 5:
Not sure about you guys, but I do love a good IPS panel.
    Next is Gigabyte's Aero 15 and 15X:
Interested in seeing esports and competitive games on this one, I don't see 144Hz on laptops very often. Again, love the IPS. I/O isn't lacking too badly either.
How long as it been since Samsung released a gaming laptop? Their upcoming Odyssey Z seems fairly promising:
I/O is really lacking here, I would've liked to see a Type-C port or Thunderbolt 3. Seems like it should do pretty nicely for the typical student who wants to game and take notes.
Asus, a well known gaming laptop brand, is also hitting this lineup with the new ROG Zephyrus M:
I'm guessing the lowest priced unit ships with a 1060 3Gb, and the next tier up with a 6Gb. Overall, looks like a promising lineup.

Very interested in seeing what Linus thinks of these.

We've all owned computers before so we know a bit about them, but never owned anything crazy. Within the past 8 months, we've all built new computers and have really enjoyed it ever since. We don't just take random pictures of set ups that we think are rad, but approach every single battlestation owner asking for permission to post along with a spec-list to provide some inspiration and information for those who are looking to set up their own station.

To get more people on board we are planning on doing a giveaway very soon (this is LEGIT; promise :-)) possibly within the next 2 weeks or so (will be a mech keyboard/mouse setup).

I think that I'm pretty much done with this build now. The only thing missing is pretty much only a new CPU cooler (probably noctua n9i) and that is easily obtained! Anyway, here are the photos of all of the work that I managed to squeeze out of today! Oh yeah, and I managed to strip the thread going into the mobo tray on one of the motherboard standoffs, so I loosened them all and put a dab of superglue in between the standoffs and the mobo tray to extra-secure them Also, I wasn't satisfied with my cable management, so I did it all again... and the reason that I routed the 24 pin atx UNDER the motherboard instead of to the left and out was so that you couldn't see into the "chamber" to the left of it and so that the entire "left" side of the motherboard where the motherboard LED's are located is free so you can see ALL of the RGB in all of it's glory! Enjoy!

    Hello there Random Stranger,
    Welcome to my world,

    well..
now that I got that out of my system, welcome to my new project.

My father wanted a new PC and I, as the techsavy guy in our family, offered to build him one.
And as a special treat...decided to build him a custom case...just because i can.

Because i know that my father is a little bit old fashioned i decided to build him a retro themed case.
Inspiration was drawn from old radios and tv's.
The two main materials would be copper and wood, dark wood since wood tends to darken over time.
and it looks nice with copper.

The next premise was: it should be located on the desk to make it easily accesible...wich ties in with the first: should look nice since it had to be placed on the desk.
    further requirements:
    DVD Drive (so annoying)

Further Hardwware isnt much to mention since he gave me a pretty tight budget...

    so i went with a
    Pentium G4600 2C/4T
    MSI B250I Pro
8 GB DDR4 Value RAM (holy fuck that shit got expensive)
some old Nvidia GT i still had (thanks to crypto that went through the roof right at the start of this build)
    bequiet PSU
    some DVD drive

so i got to work and started to visualise what i had in mind.

Here is a first peek using SketchUp (my fathers work area)

where its black there should be copper...

Those "renderings" convinced my father and i went to work.
Sadly there aren't many pictures as some got lost...don't know why though

after a couple of router passes i had all the 45 degree angles kinda right...
that was one pain in the back to do those...especially with an unprecise routerbit.

yeah.,...i made that picture with my smartphone instead of the DSLR...cant believe i did that

    test fitting and adjustments

and yeah...its not copper...as it turns out i was too ambitious about that...couldn't do it myself as i dont have neither the tools nor the skills to do so. But i found a company which specializes
in cutting sheet metal according to CAD drawings (even one at a time).
Guess you need a little bit of luck too.
Now i have just to paint that.

    Aaaand TADAAAAAA!!!!!

This looks way nicer than i feared it might look.

As you might have noticed...the wood is actually playwood...for the same reason the copper is not really copper. Sadly i dont have a CNC so i had to outsource the wood cutting as well.
At least the openings i cut myself. (pretty lousy if one might notice)
But as nobody will ever see the inside or the backside....since it will be on my fathers desk for the next 5 years....
    Don't care

    Thats it for now.
    Thanks for reading along.

Here's all the products I committed to in 2017 that I chose based on my technical knowledge and advice from LTT starting PC build

    -The Fragbox 3.0-

    Ryzen 7 1700 - $329.99 newegg
    ASRock x370 Fatal1ty - $163.49 newegg
    32GB 3200Mhz G.skill Trident Z DDR4 Ram - $199.98 newegg
MSI Founder's Edition GTX 1080 - actually not from 2017, got it on pre-order at launch! - $718.54 5/31/2016 newegg
    512Gb Samsung Evo 960 NVMe SSD - $279.99 newegg
Computer Upgrade King Continuum Case - $98.99 amazon
    Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 cpu cooler - $64.95 newegg
    Gelid GC-Extreme thermal compound - $12.99 newegg

    LG-43UD 42" 4K Monitor - $700 amazon black friday
Zalman K900M Mech. Keyboard - $49.99 newegg black friday
    Steelseries Rival 900 Mouse - $73.00 amazon
    Custom print Qck+ Mousepad - $24.00 steelseries
Sennheiser GSP 350 Gaming Headset - $139.95 newegg

And I'm still using my Antec 1200w psu I've had for years from newegg.

Some notes about this build that I don't see mentioned often enough on LTT ect.

The Ryzen 7 1700 comes out of the box ready to overclock to 4ghz with little effort on a good cooler. My personal benchmarks often beat out 1800x systems but the 1700 seems to get little attention. I do like to play in 4k as opposed to high refresh rate (until 120hz 4k in 2018 fingers crossed for a good that can run that). I also stream fairly often and the powerful ryzen cores have no issues downsampling 4k to 1080p and streaming 60fps with medium preset as long as I use process lasso to keep it away from my gaming threads. So there's realistically no reason for me to have a hotter, higher power draw Intel processor at this price point which I feel many people might agree with. I'd say combined with the comparable price of an Asus zXXX-A prime board on an itel rig the ryzen 7 + 8 phase power on the ASRock board I have really makes it one of the best values in the higher end market.

Another thing is the CUK (lol) Continuum case was only $100 but it's soo sick. Love it to pieces. Great infinity mirror and room for water cooling support. The included bracket for gpu looks like it can be repurposed for vertical. Gonna give it a try when my spacer arrives

LOOOOVE the 42 inch 4k 'udi' tho. Literally like I'm cheating in csgo/pubg. If you haven't tried large format PC gaming on a desk it's utterly insane. Love it.

    Portables:

What I'm probably even more hype about are these other devices I've purchased. I've gone deep on the Chinese brands this year.

    Huawei Mate 10 Pro - $780 ebay  / Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 - $570 swappa

The Huawei mate 10 pro is a gem and definitely my phone of choice! Though after trying the xiaomi mix 2 I have to say MIUI is awesome too! - $780 ebay

Currently trying to sell the xiaomi mi mix 2, apparently waterproofing anxiety is real.

(needs a more in depth review)

    Coding/Work Laptop

    Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro i7 16gb/256gb - $1100 gearbest

also had a 8th gen i7 razer blade stealth for a little bit, which was great except for the 2 hour battery life =[ returned.

Another big and proud purchase was a 15 inch work computer. I'm a web developer and I was surprised to find my surface book was slowing down a bit on bigger projects, so I thought maybe a surface book 2 would be a good purchase or a razer blade stealth. Well I was wrong about both. The xiaomi mi notebook pro that was reviewed here is THE choice imo for a ~1k business machine. I ended up purchasing the i7 model which gets closer to 7 hours battery but the extra ram is totally worth it.

This mi notebook pro also features something that I think wasn't highlighted enough, and that it's mobile graphics chip is, as far as I know, the most performant mobile gpu that can run entirely off of battery. My max-q gaming laptop by contrast can't even handle cuphead on battery alone, where the mx150 in the mi notebook pro can push 60+ in many games. Totally amazing value.

    Sager Notebook NP8952 - $1699 base sagernotebook.com

As soon as the max-q technology hit the market, I knew it was time to upgrade my dual gt650m lenovo y510p in favor of this breakthrough. While the name brand offerings are nothing to laugh about, this sager max-q 1070 model with 4k display came in at only $1800 with financing and I am truly blown away at the amount of performance delivered by this machine at this price.. A 120hz 1080p display is the only config left out which may immediately write this off for people, but the 4k option looks absolutely stunning even when running in 1080p for certain titles, so I'm actually really happy with the decision here. Not to mention I've seen basically every other max-q laptop at a higher price point where this laptop by sager does better in basically every area for cheaper. Astounding. The only notable comparison IMO is the msi gs63vr stealth pro, which comes in at around the same weight but is more pricy and has FHD display only. Weak.

    Huawei Matebook E - $709 Amazon

To round out my full tech stack, my final purchase was the Huawei matebook E. After much deliberation I realized my surface book just isn't the companion computer I needed. So I've traded it in for the matebook E and well I can't be happier. Purchasing as like new for $700 on Amazon , this tablet performs on par with the surface book in a much thinner and lighter body. It also packs itself into a frame that's hardly bigger than a 10.6inch tablet while having a 12" display. Absolutely great to use with or without keyboard. I'll never be without a way to be productive.

I just can't stress how much this device impressed me though. I was really looking for something that doesn't quite exist yet: a windows tablet that can ACTUALLY be used NICELY as a tablet, and has power to back it up. 10.6" tablets are the form factor that works, at least with my hands, with 12" (at the moment) being a bit too big and awkward. Can't get those thumbs to the center of the screen. And you do take some tradeoffs in terms of IO, only headphone jack and usb-c... but in a way that's actually a good thing. I won't be trying to use this device like a computer and the device encourages me to treat it like that. It wants me to use it as a tablet wherever I go, it wants me to use it to keep all my notes and important info in there, it wants me to connect its display wirelessly, it wants me to actually change the way I approach organization and productivity. They basically fit a qhd screen in a 10.6" tablet's body and gave it desktop specs. This thing never slows down and while it doesn't get thunderbolt support for eGPU, again I think it's actually trying to do this on purpose. I know that before I thought about using a tablet like this to focus all the crap going on around me that gets lost in the void of my phone or gaming pc, I would often forget many things and never really felt comfortable. Now I have my mate.

    Router

I also needed a new router, upgrading from a wireless N Asus n66u to the very impressive TP-Link Archer C5400 for $199.99 on Amazon. Amazing performance for the price. QoS works great with my server and gaming.

And that's it for my 2017 hardware commitments. Do you think I could have done better? Let me know in the comments.

I also have a quad core xeon server with 12tb of storage which hosts Plex and game servers for Conan exiles, 7 days to die, Minecraft, and Counter Strike GO. But that's getting a bit old, I'll use the ryzen for it I'm sure when I upgrade next!

This time I won't do the classical photographing of the hardware, because internet is full of these kind of photos. Instead I will show you my impression I present you CM Cosmos C700P
