Thanks for the concern everyone. We are still in recovery mode over here and working with YouTube to get everything restored. Will hopefully have a video (or at least an update on WAN Show) to share with you all ASAP, but we want to make sure we get the details right since smaller channels may rely on our experience to help harden their own security.

Techicolors got a reaction from Slickrr13 in Swapping to an Ultrawide worth it?
tons of modern games support 21:9. if a game doesn't it's usually a simple ini fix or something. pcgamingwiki or wsgf are great resources. and seeing that you have 3080 it's a great pair. but bear in mind that still won't reach high fps in intensive games like cyberpunk or with raytracing enabled even with DLSS. least that monitor is g-sync compatible so it'll smooth things out when fps fluctuates. another thing too is fov, some games don't let you change it very much or causes fish-eye effect, and on ultrawide adjusting fov is a must

once you go IPS, you can never go back... of course, if you play a lot of competitive titles like cs:go, TN is the best way to go. not to say there aren't any fast IPS monitors. they're just a bit expensive

also, 1080p on a 27" monitor has a pretty low dpi, so you'll see some pixels if you sit a feet or so from the screen.

honestly found curved panels to be quite nice for ultrawide. recently went back to a flat ultrawide and it was really strange, but you get used to it. downside is that you can't set it to portrait mode

With the advent of COVID-19 WUs we have decided to launch an emergency response of our own. It's time to gear up our clocks and push again. For once more, united we stand, core to core, shoulder to shoulder. Not simply for glory,  but to take the fight to COVID-19. We will not sit by with idle GPUs. We will not go gently into that good night. We will take up arms for all of mankind. This is the oath we will all take to ourselves by signing up here.
We will be folding for 14 days, the recommended isolation period for those with suspected COVID-19.

Folding@home is a network of volunteer computers distributed around the world that aims to perform biomedical research with the single intent of helping to further understand and develop cures for a range of diseases such as; Alzheimer's, cancer, and Parkinson's. The exact research that is done is simulating the 'folding' of proteins in the body, this is important because the function of a protein id directly related to its physical shape. And this, when the protein is created in the body it needs to reshuffle its shape to get into the correct structure to perform its task. Many illnesses can be linked to faulty proteins in the body such as many cancers and neurological issues, along with a wide number of other general health concerns. This network if compared with the TOP500 list of supercomputers would fall into 2nd, Folding@home is one of the world's fastest computing systems, with a speed of approximately 98.7petaFLOPS. It would be 50% faster than the fastest x86 computer currently listed on the top500.

    COVID-19
But this is not why we are here, we are here to join the legion of other folders from around the globe who have taken up the fight against COVID-19.

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common across the world.  These viruses can cause mild symptoms ranging from a fever and cough to more serious conditions such as severe pneumonia, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
In December 2019, a new strain of coronavirus (COVID-19) was first identified in Wuhan City, China.  This virus has now spread to other countries.  The UK Chief Medical Officers have declared the risk to the public to be moderate. But the risk to individuals remains low.

    PASSKEYS! (they're really important)

Don't forget to get yourself a passkey from the link below to ensure that you hit the points requirement, the passkey is a feature that was added a while ago to the Folding Client that helps to authenticate each user on the network, an added bonus of this is the fact that it allows you to qualify for QRB(Quick Return Bonus) Points, QRBs are extra points you earn for submitting work units more quickly, such as if you have faster hardware or let the client fold full time, rather than on idle. QRB credit is awarded after 10 WUs have been submitted. You can get your passkey from the link below.
    https://apps.foldingathome.org/getpasskey

This is just a PSA for the new guys here, the folding team is a small close knit community, so here's a few things I'd like you all to keep in mind. It doesn't hurt to say thank you, if someone has genuinely helped you out don't forget to drop a reaction on their posts, help others where ever you can and finally we are a team first and always.

Check your stats out here! Bare in mind it can take some time for your first WUs to appear so leave it a day or two.

do you have the commander pro or the lighting node pro? you have to connect the rgb hub to the lighting node pro's lighting channels via a proprietary cable, making sure to also connect to usb header (for iCue detection) and sata (for power)

Lucas was pretty awesome too. like axing one of the mind flayer's arms and using fireworks against it in the last ep

i was actually looking forward to seeing Eight and the others again in S3, maybe as support or something. i mean, another person like El would be a huge asset both in field and as a character plot. but then again, El left them in pretty bad terms so it'll probably require some reconciliation

but seeing El kinda lost her powers, it does open up a huge opportunity to bring them back in S4. plus another potential location to visit

i honestly felt the ending to S3 was pretty dead-on and i wouldn't have done it any other way. Hopper's death still has a lasting hurt for me. but thinking about the marketing and stuff people have mentioned it is likely he'll be back. could be the 'American' in the holding cell, or that he went into the Upside Down just as the laser exploded (it will parallel perfectly with the 'keep the door three inches open' from the ending speech, plus explains why there's no body). frankly reminds me of Infinity War when spiderman dies but we definitely know he and everyone else will come back because Marvel already has films set for him after Endgame, so now the impact of their deaths isn't nearly as intense. but it's still very climatic

codeacademy is a good place to start. but i will admit it's a little too much handholding.

a wonderful start is Harvard's CS50 course offered on edX. the lectures are amazing, very engaging passionate and easy to understand. https://www.edx.org/course/cs50s-introduction-to-computer-science
they also have other courses such as intro to game dev and intro to web development

next is MIT's intro to cs with python (if you like Python). IMO the lectures are a bit less lively but the content is very good https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-to-computer-science-and-programming-using-python-2

if you want programming youtube channels CS Dojo and The Coding Train are very good ones

google already ended software support for Nexus devices. but i think the mod/xda community is pretty active on Nexus devices, if you know how to flash you could get a fairly recent custom ROM going. in terms of phone itself, pretty good. the top and bottom bezels are pretty large nowadays but the front speakers are pretty good. the visor could be a potential failure point, i heard of some 6P just spontaneously breaking visor

Techicolors reacted to reniat in database practice
There are tons of other ways to add more security to authentication, though it's a tradeoff of complexity/user effort and security.

You can check IPs and force the user to confirm if it looks suspicious You can set up multi factor authentication (MFA) which can range from a phone app, to a USB key, to a fingerprint scanner, etc. You can have security questions the list goes on. Typically adding those features also requires more effort for the user to log in. Most users don't want to have to use MFA to log into something like reddit, but they might REALLY appreciate that kind of enforcement around something like bank logins.

The salting method illustrated earlier in the thread is kind of like a "good starting point" for user authentication. It's secure "enough" (try to avoid thinking of any system as unbreakable) for most basic cases, though again network security and setting up database access are also huge factors in ensuring a secure system.

EDIT: also for the record, i am NOT a security professional. I'm sure there are way more things involved with infosec that I've never worked with. If you really need to make a secure system, like REALLY secure (e.g. storing PHI, financial information, basically anything that could get you in some MAJOR hot water) then you should have an actual security professional on your team.
