  1. It really depends what you plan on running on this @Ajcheech. Games, content creation, web browsing?
  2. If you're gaming, you probably need an additional storage drive for mass storage. Something like a 1tb WD Blue is a cheap, reliable drive.
  3. You shouldn't really need a WiFi card either, as the motherboard has onboard WiFi.
  4. Essentially, that graphics card will not be able to take full advantage of the amount of frames that monitor can push when playing demanding games.
  5. A GTX 1060 & a 144hz Monitor pairing don't really make sense. That card will not run 144 fps on triple a titles.
  6. I have a fairly new build that's about two months old. 6850k on a ASUS X-99 Deluxe-II motherboard, EVGA GTX-1080 SC. Latest BIOS version, Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. Everything has worked great so far, very fast etc, but I have an occasional problem that results in a BSOD. It only happens right after logging into Windows right after powering on the computer. It gives a stop code of PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and says What failed: IOMap64.sys From what I've gathered from googling, this is a file unique to ASUS Motherboards and software programs and it resides in the system32 folder to the best of my recollection. I saw one forum poster state somewhere to boot the computer in safe mode, delete the file, and reinstall the graphics driver. I thought about doing this but I wanted a few more opinions on what it might be. Also I just searched my hard drive for the file and found more than one copy of it in some of the ASUS software, and I'm not sure if these should be deleted as well or what to do for sure. Any suggestions? And thanks in advance!
  7. I would have to think the 1050ti, as it will be the fastest card. I don't think I would consider anything outside the 10 series, however. As far as the AMD side, I think the 1050ti still has the advantage over the RX460.
  8. Apparently prisoners were able to scavenge parts for computers from a program that allows prisoners to take computers apart. They then snuck the parts past multiple security measures and built them and hid them in the ceiling. They then connected to the correctional facility's network and used an employees credentials to create security clearance badges to allow them access to restricted areas and stole multiple inmates identities to fill out credit apps. 9. I'm happy to report that I have fixed the issue, and now see max CPU temps in the high 50s and low 60s (right around the numbers for the above graph deXxterlab97 posted. I did a fresh application of thermal compound, and realized I had my PWM fan splitter plugged into my primary CPU fan header. After I corrected this, PWM was able to ramp up the fans and pump more precisely for my CPU. I also hooked up my Corsair Link and set graphs for fan speed on my water cooler to minimize volume when possible, and ramp up when CPU temps go up.
  10. Room is around 25 C, I have 2 intake fans in the front, 1 intake fan in the bottom in front of the PSU, 1 exhaust fan in the back, in the usual spot, and 2 fans exhausting air though the radiator. The idea was to blow air in sort of the natural way, cool air coming in the front toward the bottom, warm air rising and exhausting through the exhaust fans at and round the top.
  11. Well my 70C is a solid 12 degrees higher than anything on this graph. Care to explain your reasoning?
  12. On my new PC build with a 6850k, water-cooled with a Corsair H100i V2, I'm getting idle temps right at 30 C, which seems completely fine to me. However, when I ran the CPU under load with Handbrake transcoding a movie file, I saw CPU temperatures reach 70 C. Does this seem a little high for this config? I have the stock fans that came with the cooler push air through the top-mounted radiator and out of the case. Is it possible I may have a poor thermal compound application? Or are these temperatures within normal operating temps for a system like this?
  13. Great! That'll be another alternative I'll have to look into.
  14. I'm familiar with MBAM, however does it have a background process that actively monitors inbound files? The few times I've use it, it was more of a scan tool and not so much a live antivirus software. Granted, that has been several years ago.
  15. I would tend to agree with that. I just didn't know if there was anything else out there that was unobtrusive. But I'm good with Defender, and I can generally avoid doing stupid things. Ill just need to do my own research on some of the others mentioned, if I don't just stick with Defender.
  16. I just finished my first PC build (i7-6850k, ASUS x99 deluxe II mobo, EVGA GTX 1080 SC) and I'm seeking recommendations for antivirus software. In the past I used McAfee, but I don't care for all of the background CPU and disk activity with its unannounced scans, etc. I'd like to find something that actively "watches" incoming files, whether directly downloaded or not and would alert of anything suspicious, but I don't want a software with a lot of background activity. I understand antivirus software is not a necessity if you're smart about your online activity, but it would give me peace of mind knowing I can fall back on it. What do some of you use and would you recommend it? By the way, I'm on Windows 10 pro, and it comes with Windows Defender of course, but I'm not sure if that is a comprehensive enough solution or not. Thanks for your help!
  17. Kaby lake windows 10 on edge is the only "official" way to watch 4k Netflix on pc. But there are plenty of (non-pc) 4k streaming devices that support 4k Netflix natively.
  18. Sounds more like a power issue in that case. Keep an eye on your temps too when it starts to do that. Cooling may not be adequate
  19. They deteriorate. Dust, heat and time are hard on a PSU, but that may not necessarily be the issue either.
  20. I suppose it could be that as well. If you have an iGPU, unplug the card from your system altogether, and try running on it for a little bit and see if the issue persists.
  21. You might see if you have the same problem on your integrated graphics, assuming you have them. This will rule out the cable and monitor. If you have the issue on the iGPU, then it may very well be the cable or monitor. If not, then it's something to do with the 960.
  22. I looked on the packaging some more and found that they're imported from China (no surprise there) by some company out of Surrey, BC, Canada called PDI.
  23. I found a really cheap HDMI cable today at a local Mighty Dollar, for a dollar (USD) of course! They're just some no name 3' cable, but they work just fine so far and I haven't seen anything cheaper than these. I saw a few on Amazon for just a few cents but they add shipping charges to each one you order so what you think is a $.50 cable turns out to be like $5 with shipping. I ended up buying like 12 of these because I'm always needing them somewhere, but it just goes to show you can find some good deals, even in the brick & mortar stores!
