  1. And just in case someone is still interested I got a 11700k a little before christmas for 350€. Happy with it for now about how I ended up with the board: I was building a few systems before, bought a motherboard too much and only realized my mistake once I already missed the return window. Funny sidenote: when I got the CPU I built a custom loop including the 3090 and two radiators. When I wanted to turn everything on it turned out the board was dead. So turned out I could have ignored the board completely
  2. Thank you to everyone who replied. I decided to wait a few weeks and hope to get either of the listed CPUs for cheap with black friday, or maybe cleaning out inventory for alder lake. thank you again for your feedback!
  3. Hello, first up sorry of this is the wrong categorie but seemed fitting here: I have a RTX 3090 on the way since I got it relativley "cheap" (considering market conditions anyway). I am currently running a 8700k but that CPU actually isn't mine and I need to get a new one. I also already have a z490 strix motherboard which was a leftover from a build I did for someone else. So the options I am considering so far: 1 10850k + use the z490 board -> 408€ 2 11700k+ use the z490 board -> 360€ 3 11900k+ use the z490 board -> 505€ 4 5900x + new board -> 720€ 5 5800x + new board -> 580€ when gaming I will mainly use it for 1440p 144hz gaming on my desk and 4k 60hz on my tv. Also for VR (biggest reason I wanted the new gpu). I also do quite a bit of solidworks work but don't think either should make a big difference there I am kind of leaning towards waiting and getting one of the cheaper options. It just seems to me that a lot is happening in the cpu space right ow with amd and intel both moving to new sockets, ddr 5 and pcie 5 arriving. question is though if it will be wise to even upgrade to ryzen 6000/alderlake or rather waiting for 7000/wateverlake since I am not sure if there will be problems in the beginning (espacially with alderlakes big little design, which sounds great but I bet will cause all kind of problems in the beginning). Lastly: yes I know I have a completly oversized gpu and it is kind of funny to know ask buget questions for the cpu, but I got it at msrp and just pulled the trigger mainly since I assumed that it will propably help with VR supersampling a lot. I don't mind if the cpu is bottlenecking the gpu theoretically in some 1080p benchmark basically I want to play games in 1440p 144hz nicely, same at 4k 60hz and mostlyy the question is if it will hinder me in VR for now.
  4. Thank you for that advice! I have no experience wirh soldering at all, but I found a shop near me that offers smd repairs for about 40-50 Bucks so I am going to let those guys have a crack at it. Maybe that will work out
  5. I‘m kind of embarrassed to admit this at this point but I was actually using pliers, since the guide I was following suggested those should work fine for the job. But yes definetly the wrong tools I guess and/or too hamfisted on my part... either way sadly the card seems to be done. I just plugged it in to a different pc, it doesnt show a picture And the fan wont even spin. I was kinda hoping the second capacitor would have been just for the display port located behind it but seems to have been something more vital. in the unlikely event that I get the card to work again I‘ll let you know ;)
  6. I am honestly amazaed on my stupidity as well here, thought after the first one I‘ll continue and slipped again... have been repairing phones for years and never fucked that up. But yeah kind of angry at myself right now ^^
  7. Thank you for the replies so far. I just realized that i damged another piece a bit to the right. Is this also likely to be part of the sli header or is this more serious ?
  8. Hey, first of sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread but I figured graphics card is kind of fitting. so I wanted to install a waterblock on my 1080 ti but i slipped when removing one of the screws and chipped a tiny capicitor (i guess) as seen on the picture. So my question is, can this be repaired (if yes how/where can I find information on it) or this the card trash now ? thanks in advance
  9. better than an i3 7100. if you can afford an i5 you can go for it
  10. You can do that and it will be better than your old cpu. But Not by a huge nargin (I would expect something like maybe 30% improvement). So if your pc is Holding up at all at the Moment my Suggestion would be to buy the new Monitor and graphics card now and wait a few months until you can either afford More and/or the new Chips have come to your Country simply because you would get a lot more improvent/Dollar that way
  11. if you can afford it i5 7400+ any fitting mainboard (socket 1151, 200 series or 100 series+ bios update). don't need a z series chipset as the cpu wouldnt support overclocking anyways if not: ryzen 1300x or i3 7100 + mainboard as above
  12. if you can afford it, I would go for 8350k. you can only get z370 motherboards at the moment anyway so might as well go with the overclockable one. On a side note, those ARE the 8th generationchips we were talking about before we thought werent available in pakistan . If they are available after all it should definetly be the right choice ^^ Edit: only disadvantage of the 8350k compared to the 8100 I can think of (aside from the price obviously) is that the 8350k does not come with a cooler if I'm not mistaken. But you should be able to pick something up that outperforms the intel stock cooler for about 10-20 bucks
  13. Ok then - if I were you - I would get an I3 or ryzen 3 whatever you can get cheaper with a mainboard that suits your needs. 8 gigs of ram. and whatever graphicscard remains in your budget. If you had planned on streaming I would have suggested going for a Ryzen 5 1500x now and upgrade the graphics card once you have the money. But if you dont you should be fine either way imo
  14. well ALL mentioned cpus would be better than your q9400 And "another random person" summarized the options quite good. but getting the most for your money I think 2 questions are verry important: how fixed is your budget ? is it definetly 500 for now and the foreseeable future, or could you spend ~350 now and another 350 in a few months on it ? And do you plan on streaming ?
  15. yes at least compared to kaby lake. if you can get a coofe lake cpu I would assume not, but for ryzen vs kaby lake yes the higher core count on ryzen shoudl definetly help
