Jayztwocents did a video on this a few years back. If you are not looking to hit record breaking overclocks just run the one cable with the two 8 pin connectors. Stability wise Jay saw that using two separate 8 pin cables sometimes allowed for slightly higher stable overclocks but not anything that would be noticed in daily operation.

A 3600x might not be worth it over a 3600.  Especially if you want to change the cooler out anyway later on.
SLI is NOT WORTH IT anymore.  I'd get 1 good card over 2 OK cards anyday.  If you already have one 1080, maybe sell and get a 2080?
The boot drive seems a little redundant if you already have a 2tb ssd.  But that's nik picking.

Because it can't be overstated enough, in most cases for just gaming SLI is not worth it. Unless your doing applications that will specifically benefit from it and have a massive budget it doesn't make sense.

COUPER MILLAR reacted to Fasauceome in Upgrade question
The 6700K can still manage a good gaming experience. I think upgrading the graphics card now and the CPU later is a great idea, especially since intel processors are so overpriced and their next generation is hopefully a lot more price competitive.  Presumably your CPU is overclocked?

ya that looks close enough to the 24 pin connector that I would bet that at a minimum the mobo and psu are dead.

COUPER MILLAR reacted to Fasauceome in How big should a boot drive be?
you don't even need one at all. Are you looking at an NVMe drive? don't get one for windows, it makes literally no difference. Just put windows on your 240GB SSD.

COUPER MILLAR got a reaction from Fasauceome in Not sure what to upgrade to!
I see two upgrade paths, with their own positives and negatives.
    Intel
    i7 9700k or i9 9900k
+ these would give you more cores and or threads than you currently have or would get from the 8700k
+ best curent ipc leading to the best gaming experience
+ iGPU can be used to offload stream rendering
    - most expensive consumer chips and motherboards
    - no guarantee of future compatibility or ability to upgrade
    - will require better cooling

    AMD
r7 2700 with potential for upgrade to 3000 series in the next 6 months
+ similar core and thread count to new intel chips
    + less expensive option
+ upgrade path guaranteed on the am4 platform for at least one more year
    - reselling/replacing cpu in 6 months if you decide to upgrade
    - currently lower ipc than intel and only one tech demo from AMD showing improved ipc
    - will need to be more selective in ram choice (possibly more expensive than what could be used in an intel build)

honestly it comes down to a personal preference and willingness to base you current purchase on potential future upgrade vs wanting the best performance money can buy today.

COUPER MILLAR reacted to BrinkGG in is raid a thing i should do?
first off, you can't use raid on any of these drives. Raid likes to have the same capacity drives, and performance suffers if you have drives at different speeds (NVMe vs SATA SSD, etc.)
Second, Raid isn't really necessary anymore. Most drives are fast enough as is.
So no. Don't use raid with them. Please.

I personally prefer to use the CPU 1 fan header for my pump control. But that is not your question... You should be able to set a fan profile in your bios for that specific fan header to control your pump speed.

but anyway you can check what program is causing your CPU and GPU to behave this way in Task Manager

The practical performance differences between NVMe and SATA is minimal. So in this case, I would go with what's easiest to save time and energy.

@Tristerin If you live anywhere near a state university look into their electronics surplus! I have picked up 3 HP 8300's for $50 each all I had to do was add storage and additional ram as needed.

COUPER MILLAR reacted to corrado33 in Good experience with Antec Customer Support
I recently picked up two older Antec cases (P280s... so... 6ish years old) off of craigslist for super cheap. Unfortunately, NEITHER of them had hard drive trays in them. (Who the hell takes those things out anyway?)

So I e-mailed Antec's support considering I couldn't find the drive trays for purchase on their website. A day later, I got an e-mail saying that they'd send me a few for free if I just paid shipping! (Yes, I even TOLD them I bought them used!) The ONLY drive sleds I could find on ebay were selling for $10 a piece! And there were only 2 of them! Of course, I agreed, gave them my paypal address, and well... the bill never came. I e-mailed them back and said "Hey, I never got an invoice." And they said "This is our gift to you!" (I mean, shipping was only a few dollars anyway.)

So yeah, a super nice experience with Antec's Customer support, even for a very old (in computer terms) product.

    Thanks Antec!

EDIT: Although now that I look at it, it seems their modern P100 is near identical to the P280, and probably has the same drive sleds, so they probably had tons of them lying around. Still nice regardless.

Is there a specific reason you are wanting to upgrade? as far as gaming is concerned neither of those will provide a huge difference in game performance IMO.  You would see a better price to performance bump from getting better cooler and pushing OC as far as possible on your current set up.

Also take into consideration the monitor that he will be using. If he has or will be getting a free sync monitor the Vega 56 would technically be slower but would give a smother gaming experience.
