My internet will just slow down. If I do a speed test on the Google WiFi itself it then speeds back up. For a few days, then slows. A few other people have the same behaviour on Reddit and no cure. But also the removal of features from an already stripped down experience has really annoyed me. The control and configuration through the app is so basic its frustrating. If I think I have an issue it's basically impossible to diagnose. So the main problem I have is I don't know what's up with my WiFi and I can't figure it out. So replacing it is as much about diagnostics as it is about replacing it.

I'm pretty sure my Google WiFi is dying. What's a good alternative home mesh option for a tech savvy person who wants more control than Google WiFi offers, and who will soon have 1Gb FTTP? My specific criteria are: - Mesh of 3 or 4 nodes - Ethernet backhall available for most, if not all nodes (depends how many and where I put them) - Tough, so that one or more can live in the loft would be great, but not a must - Configurable for at least the bare minimum of port forwarding, DNS changing to use PiHole, and configurable through a web browser and not forced to use a bloody app - Useful metrics to test the speed of devices, nodes, and the internet Thanks!

This sounds like something that could, and should, be an app that I can run on my RPi that is also hosting Pi-Hole. No reason this requires hardware, especially if it gets borked once some popular Youtuber tells everyone about it. Oopse.

Can someone provide any details on that peg board thing with the controller's on it? It looks awesome and just what I'm looking for, but I'm struggling to find it online.

Looks like Samsung 7000 or 8000 might be a good bet. The LGs at the low end are IPS, and as I game in a dark room I think I'd prefer the VA on the Samsung's.

What would people recommend for a cheap TV around 50" for primarily casual PC gaming over HDMI? UK based so no Vizio unfortunately.

My room doesn't have the layout to support a good 5.1 setup unfortunately, hence the 2.1 base which I really like. I'm struggling to find a good HDMI switch that supports 4k/60 or (120, the TV supports that) and HDR. Am I looking in the wrong place?

It's a VR PC that lives in the lounge.

So my kit is: - Sony XG90 TV - Sony HT-XT1 Soundbase - Sky HD - Xbox One X - Switch - Chromecast Ultra - PC The TV has 4 HDMI ports. The Soundbase has 3. Currently I have the Sky plugged into the Soundbase and into the TV with that TV input set to TV/Movie specific modes. I then have the other 3 ports on the TV filled with the CCU (used for Stadia), Xbox and Switch, and all 3 are set to game mode. And now I have a gaming PC, but no way to connect it directly to the TV and enable game mode, or indirectly without messing something else up. The Soundbase is old enough not to support HDR so that doesn't work if I plug all the gaming into that either (the PC, Xbox and CCU all need decent HDMI, ideally directly into the TV). So I'm a bit stuck. I have a Harmony remote. I'm thinking my options might be: - Connect the Switch to the passthrough on the Xbox, assuming I can somehow get the Harmony to set the Xbox to the required app/mode/whatever, which frees up a TV hdmi port. - Get some sort of HDMI switch that works with Harmony and connect 2 or more of the gaming systems to it into a single HDMI port on the TV. Any help would be fantastic! Edit: I tested using HDMI passthrough on the Xbox with the Switch but there was over 1 second of audio delay!

So, do we know if the evil looks about the XPS 15 are because of a likely redesign? I am about to get a new work laptop, and went into the office today and asked our IT guy to hold off ordering one yet. I have an XPS 15 9550 and love it. A new XPS 15 with the design tweaks of the latest 13 would be magic!

I have my optical cable from my TV split into two that goes to my sound base and also a Bluetooth transmitter. No idea how many devices the transmitter supports, but as it's optical I assume you could just split it again?

Having done some more digging it looks like the 49" XG90 is actually a rebrand of the prior years XF90, rather than a small XG95. Not a bad thing in isolation as the XF90 is hardly a bad TV, but it was a £900 unit and the XG90 is £1,200, which stings. Anyone got a sledgehammer? I need to knock down a chimney so I can get s 55"+!

Cheers. I'm steering away from the LGs and really only looking at the XG90 now. The Samsung Q70R is advertised as a 120Hz panel, but they sneak in that the 49" is actually 60Hz. A shame as it has FreeSync. I wish I could hang on for some 49" OLEDs but I've already committed to giving away my current TV, plus I'm not convinced the smaller OLEDs are going to be cheap until they are produced in higher volumes.

50 is my max unfortunately, and that's a squeeze. 55" would get me into the bottom of OLED, but that would fail the budget criteria. Having looked around I've narrowed it down to the 2 from each of LG, Sony and Samsung, one with full array dimming and one with edge LED dimming. The FALD ones would require a sale to get under the budget but I'm in no rush. LG SM90 (FALD) £1,099 LG SM86/SM85 (Edge) £849 Samsung Q70R (FALD) £1,399 Samsung Q60R/Q67R (Edge) £899 Sony XG90 (FALD) £1,199 Sony XG83 (Edge) £849 The Samsung seems the weakest like you say they are VA. I've no idea about the Sonys, only just started looking at them. I'm thinking of heading for the FALDs because if I drop to the Edge LED ones then there's one or two models lower down from each of the brand's that don't lose many features, so I may as well drop to them (they are all about £700+) and save a bit.

Do you know of either have glossy screens? It's almost impossible to tell from online listings and photos.

This is the odd thing about them. They seem cool and I really like the idea, and lots of reviewers and YouTubers seem pretty positive about them (the good ones, like you say Ben17), but I don't know anyone who actually has one and struggle to find any normal people online who do either. They seem to be very niche.

Or how crap it is, I don't mind. I have a TB3 laptop (XPS15), my GF has a TB3 laptop (XPS13), and I have an aging gaming PC. Scrapping the PC and getting an eGPU could provide a nice single cable TB3 dock for the laptops when working, and also be a gaming PC when needed. So I'm interested in hearing people's experiences with them. I will be gaming at 1080p currently and maybe 1440p in the future, but not 4k. I know they take a performance hit over a GPU in a full PC, but I'm happy with that. A couple of things I'm curious about are having my games library installed on an external drive attached to the eGPU enclosure, will my laptop cry about it when not connected to it? And how well do eGPU setups work for VR? One of the reasons behind considering it is being able to move it about in my house for some room scale VR (my office is small). Thanks!
