TheGlenlivet got a reaction from PDifolco in 5800X3D cooling options and B350 PBO options
Awesome. Thanks.
I am pretty sure my b350 BIOS had Curve Optimizer. I'll investigate this evening.

In BIOS, Curve Optimizer
Playing with Ryzen Master won't help reducing temps

I'm on a 5900X, but let's make one ; put everything at -30, if it works, done 🙂
Else look in HWinfo your say 3 best cores (they're ranked), put them at -20, others at -30
Still doesn't work ? Put the best at -15, the rest at -25.
I don't think it can crash with that, but then you know the trick 🙂

TheGlenlivet got a reaction from Cyber Akuma in Best way to check if the BIOS of a used card was modified/used for mining?
GPUZ is all I have used to look at Firmeware and BIOS versions.
I don't know if it is 100% fool proof but I have reflashed a card in the past and it did show the updated BIOS after.
I would definitely use the 720 when flashing the 1060.
Have you tested the 1060? Is there something wrong with the performance?

You're going to need a better cooler. The AK-620 is a very reasonably priced cooler and actually outperforms the NH-D15.

What is the model of the motherboard? That's where I would start.

You have a very capable CPU and entry level GPU.
This seems normal to me.

TheGlenlivet reacted to tikker in I7-7700K running hot?
Over 90 I would start worrying. The 7700k just runs hot. I've had mine for over 5 years, it's also watercooled and runs hot as well. You can try setting a more aggressive fan curve or increasing fan speed in general if there is room for that. Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much.

You paid for the whole gpu, you should use the whole gpu. What settings are you playing at? Are you getting good performance?

TheGlenlivet reacted to Levent in Corsair RM650X 650W: sufficient for set-up? (Experiencing frequent crashes)
Your graphics card VRAM is failing. Your issue is not PSU related, you might want to consider getting a new graphics card or atleast servicing it one last time to see if it anything improves.

To be honest, there is no point speculating and getting your mind set on buying one thing. Wait until there are reviews for products before you make up your mind, as always.

TheGlenlivet reacted to emosun in R530 Poweredge CPU compatibility
Are you stuck/unable to start with a better platform as even two of either of those choices are going to be slower than a lot of consumer grade cpu's these days even factoring in all core compute tasks.

TheGlenlivet reacted to wizzdom in Confused about mount points - would love to get clarification
For uefi, the boot partition should always be the first partition on the drive (probably /dev/sda1 or similar in your case) and unfortunately you cannot have two seperate uefi partitions on the same drive. So your /dev/sdb5 cannot be used for /boot/efi.
So you're solution is either to have your linux and windows installs on two seperate hdds/ssds or to let them continue to share the same uefi partition as before.

I can see you have gotten your answer but if you have problems in the future use PC part picker and put in all your parts it will tell you if they are all compatible or tell you the issues

TheGlenlivet got a reaction from WhitetailAni in dual booting issue
So honestly, I tried this the first time I was getting into Linux and had a dual boot drive.
I quickly learned that if you want this to work well, you need to put each OS on their own drive. You can run 2 different OS on the same hardware, except for the drive. I would give them each their own.
Whenever I got stuck and couldn't get back into GRUB to pick which OS I boot into, I had luck booting from BIOS. Have you tried that?

TheGlenlivet reacted to LIGISTX in CPU over heating
A high idle typically indicates a bad mount. Have you checked to make sure the waterblock is correctly mounted to the CPU? Thermal paste was applied correctly? You took the plastic protective film off of the water block? The pump is plugged in (not just the fans, but the pump needs power, usually from SATA)?

TheGlenlivet reacted to HanZie82 in Cheap cpu mining rig
Lol no.
Mining on a 1060 6GB 20Mh/s
Mining on a CPU Ryzen 3700X 0,2Kh/s
You would need 100 000 of those CPU to even come close to a very low end GPU.
So get this out of your head, there is no CPU good enough to mine with profit.
