DanTheActualMan reacted to AlTech in Laptop for mostly online session
Good luck with Windows only programs. I ran a survey and based on the limited results i got, most devs only develop for Windows. Chromebooks are no exception.

You'll be fine for just starting out. It might be a little slow going at times, especially with 1080p/60fps footage, but it will also depend on the bitrate of that source video as well. I started editing my personal video stuff on a laptop (i5-460M @ 2.53ghz, 8GB RAM, nVidia 310M, 640GB HDD and a bunch of external USB HDD's) you'll be fine. Take the time to learn the editor you're using and finding a workflow that works for you. The only thing faster/more expensive hardware does is expedite the process (rendering, encoding, etc).

this i way more than enough for now as your projects get bigger you will know exactly what you need (more cpu cores, more gpu ram, etc.) but this is a great start and way better than my first editing rig

Agreeing with what Geoff said, if you have it under warranty, send the laptop in for repair (if allowed remove the HDD first) if not, then take it apart see if the connector has come loose, if it hasn't then the screen is dead most likely.

DanTheActualMan reacted to Geoffrey in Laptop screen not working
The connector could be loose in the laptop or it's just dead. Open the laptop up that there should be a connector from the screen to the MoBo. May void warranty!!

it looks cool as hell but 4gb of ram?, that would be fine 6 years ago but lets remember how much of a ram Wh*re chrome is
ADDED: also that Processor has a stock freq of 900Mhz, i get that its a budget pc and its still a 7th gen cpu, i wouldnt count on getting 2.2 out of it

DanTheActualMan reacted to Geoffrey in quick small question
SSD goes to sata express
for HDD is doesn't matter as long as you have enough ports for the ssd.
Also make sure you are using the black cable and not the red one for the ssd

Everything else except online stuff sucks on Chromebooks...... Chromebooks aren't what I'd consider "laptops". They'd fall more into the "netbooks" category for me.

u still run into the problems i stated earlier pretty much capped at 4gb of ram on all of them and extremely slow processor speed @1.6Ghz with a 2M cache and extremely low storage only @32 Gb and she said its for a course online which means he will probably have notes and they add up to alot after a while, granted you do get 100Gb of cloud storage but only for 2 years

Extra Cuda Cores?
I know Nvidia boosts up the clockspeed when the GPU detects that a game is running....

1. It's spelled... Xiaomi
2. a Core 2 duo is not that good for moderate or heavy tasks..... Browsing may be "fine" but it's not ideal.
3. 2GB RAM is JUST ENOUGH for Windows. Let alone 40+ tabs in chrome......
You should honestly be using 8GB RAM.
4. There is nothing wrong with an i7. You assume that Chinese people don't make programs or edit videos or whatever.
5. You're probably using Windows XP which a NEW laptop physically can't use.

My Asus Z97 motherboard uses Realtek audio and it works fine so long as Nvidia's stupid HD Audio drivers aren't installed.
