Nah, from what we've seen from AMD in the past they know how to make a good stock cooler.

I'm talking small manual OC - I've had an OC'd system since day 1, and it's still stable. I was scared that I'd kill it but it's perfectly fine.

The boards are supposed to start very cheap and yes, all the B350 boards support OC'ing.

Check those 4 pins on the lower right side. They might be the jumper to clean the CMOS.

Yes, just remember that AMD is not providing any driver support to windows 7.

That may present a problem, unless it works "unofficially" or something.

Speaking in general terms it's usually a good idea to reformat with a major system change like that. But if you can diligently eradicate and reinstall all of your pertinent motherboard drivers, it would probably work alright. Personally I think a clean install is easier, though.

Yah that's fine I think. I mean if it really bugs out and causes crashes I guess it's time to upgrade. I'm just going to hold onto 7 as much  as possible -- its my baby

Just to clarify: AMD has validated that ryzen works on windows 7 but will not be providing any support if there is any glitches or crashes due to something not being stable.

sounds like the old UEFI/BIOS problem, can you put your board into CSM mode ? if not you might not be able to boot legacy through that card, the board looks fairly old

u want to set it to boot in UEFI mode, that what the RX480 wants in order to boot

Dude, Skylake (and to a lesser extent Kaby thanks to 4k Netflix) isn't really worth it from Sandy lol. The only reason I retired my 2500k was because the GFs PC died and so I gave her my old rig and built a new one with a 6700k.

I guess wait for the chip to release and see if it's worth it then.  The rumors say Ryzen IPC will be somewhere around 3rd/4th gen intel so you may not be looking at huge gains as-is, just a bit more future proofing in the new shiny platform.

    Thanks for the prices

I'm trying to find the differences between these:
    AMD Ryzen 5 1300 4/8 8MB 65W 3.2GHz 3.5GHz N/A $175 AMD Ryzen 3 1200X 4/4 8MB 65W TBA 3.4GHz 3.8GHz $149 AMD Ryzen 3 1200 4/4 8MB 65W TBA TBA N/A TBA AMD Ryzen 3 1100 4/4 8MB 65W 3.2GHz 3.5GHz N/A $129 See how the Ryzen 3 1200x is 150$? But the Ryzen 3 1100 is 129$? But they are both 4cores and 4threads. So what's the point? Just a higher clockspeed?

But then that begs the question, if we can just overclock the Ryzen 3 1100 passed the 1200X's MHZ speed, why spend the 150$? We can just buy the 129$ and OC, theoretically right?

Well technically, XFR is similar to nVidia's GPU boost, but for CPUs.
If you want full control, you get the non-X version and OC it how you see fit.
X versions are going to be for people that have a bit of knowledge when it comes to computers, but don't want to bother with OCing.

Non-Xs should be the bang for the buck, while the X versions should be the "max performance/safe choices".

BaalRunz reacted to typographie in Does "X" next to Ryzen mean it's overclockable?
Generally speaking the CPUs with really low TDPs (like laptop CPUs or Intel's "T" products) run at reduced clock speeds compared to the mainline desktop products. If you're just building a typical desktop for gaming or work use with appropriate cooling, you probably don't need or want a "low TDP" SKU.
