Qwweb got a reaction from Tech_Dreamer in "The Mullet" Business up front party in the back
This PC has been in planning way too long, to see it come to fruition has been a fun and enjoyable experience for a first build. The inspiration for the name is in part due to the outwardly plain and small form factor for the PC as I used the Corsair 400C for easy transportation and stowage (living at college means frequently moving the rig). However, the need for HEDT and large components resulted in a somewhat awkward build. Thus, the business up front, party in the back appearance of this computer was born. My focuses of study primarily rely on copious amounts of Photoshop, ArcGIS, QGIS, and other specialized programs.

Gaming has not been a primary focus so far, but the potential of this build is still untapped, as will be plainly evident in the parts list. The storage, while on the low side, has the potential for expansion and is present primarily for transfer speeds for GIS stuff.

Without further ado; I give you "The Mullet"

Qwweb got a reaction from kirashi in New Surface Pro or another laptop for college?
Just get what will work while spending as little as possible. Pretty much anything you buy now will likely be obsolete after 7 years anyways unless you take very good care of it (typing this on an obsolete laptop that is 8 years old). I would also suggest looking at laptops first, expandable memory will be much more relevant than you think as you write more and more reports and dissertations.

Qwweb got a reaction from ErykYT3 in Need help for Future Planned Absolute overkill PC
More like an under thought build, NVMe SSDs offer no advantage except for in professional workloads where data transfer rates matter for huge file sizes. Overall, this build is a complete waste of money seeing as your current build sounds like it will stay relevant well into the future. The PCIe lanes will be more than enough to support only 2 GPUs and 2 SSDs, but again it is a complete waste of money.

Qwweb reacted to WMGroomAK in ArcGIS build
This is probably going to depend on which versioning of Arc you end up running this in as well as whether you end up on ArcGIS Pro or not, but in my experience, ArcMap 10.5 tends to stress the CPU a bit more than GPU.  (Running a i7 3770 with AMD HD7500 at the office).  When running ArcMap with a 9 GB GeoTiff Raster as the background, HWMonitor tends to report several cores getting above 70% usage (although not all) and GPU usage below 50%

I think this will probably change with ArcGIS Pro as that has built in support for DirectX and OpenGL acceleration.  Same GeoTiff on ArcGIS Pro will push the GPU usage above 50% an dI usually hit a GPU memory buffer limit...

Qwweb got a reaction from QuantumBit in Questions about radiors, sorry I'm a noob
What are you rendering and what program are you using? Depending on the file size and type as well as program, you may have overbuilt a bit.
I also don't understand what you are asking in your question, if you have a radiator that works, then use it. I guess I don't understand why you are talking about two radiator sizes in this.

It's neither a PR move or intended for the consumer market, this is very much intended for the larger scale professional uses by enterprise partners who want the reliability of Quadro and can afford the premium.

Qwweb got a reaction from Davidwr80 in Could someone explain this to me?
I also believe that as new chips came out for Pascal since release, the original X-16 used the GP-102-400-A1 whereas the Xp uses the full GP-102. This could be explained by the fact that Nvidia has an excess of GP-102 chips (otherwise used for the Quadros which have moved to the GP-101 and GP-100).

Qwweb got a reaction from Kevo05s in [Updated] Nvidia releases a new Titan X GPU called "Titan Xp"
My personal guess is that due to the Quadros moving from the GP-102 to the GP-101 and -100, an excess of -102 chips has been made. Nvidia likely wants to sell this excess and so they needed to find a new market and application for the chips.

Full on anechoic chamber? But in all seriousness you will not be able to completely isolate the rooms unless you sink some serious money into the project.
Correction, they will only work directionally, meaning that they will dampen the transmission of noise in the direction that they are positioned. This is how anechoic chambers keep sound within a room. OPs concern is noise isolation of one room from another, acoustic panels would help if they lined the wall between the two rooms. The insulation will help but the acoustic panels will make a bigger difference if you want to put up drywall (to contain the insulation so as to fall in line with fire codes).

I agree, but if cost is not a big concern then there are some cool options for decorative, fireproof, acoustic panels to go over the sheetrock. I will include a picture of an example below.
