Metallus97 reacted to Tristerin in B550 motherboard has extra 4 pin cpu connector.
The 8 pin EPS cables should split down the middle just like an 8 pin PCIe (6+2) cable splits
What CPU? Massive overclocking? If you oddly dont have a EPS cable that can split then just use 1 8 pin.
-
Metallus97 reacted to minibois in B550 motherboard has extra 4 pin cpu connector.
You can break apart one of the 8 pin EPS cables into a 4+4 pin EPS cable and connect it that way.
Except for LN2 overclocking you don't need the 4 pin connector.

Only if the call to action works, these were posted on FAHs youtube channel, would have been better if they were posted on AMDs/Nvidias channels. Have the respective corporations even shouted about then on twooter, facebook, their own websites. Really anything like that?
@jakkuh_t would be nice to see these shared by LTT on twitter tbh. #TeamLTT!

Metallus97 reacted to ConceptOW in Folding @ Home on AWS GPU instances
I've used AWS for folding and boinc before... the only thing you need to consider is your bill goes up fast. I wouldn't recommend it honestly. You can also look into doing P100 instances for 0.25/hr on Azure. It pulls about 1.4m to 1.6m. If you can, I would just get a gpu and run it from home. It's a better investment in the long run.
Regarding the AMI, I would use the Nvidia Deep Learning AMI. Easier to setup because you don't have to deal with drivers.

Also consult this guide on setting it up:

Metallus97 reacted to WhyKickAmooCow in TUTORIAL FREE 1.7MPPD+ (F@H, and BOINC) GCloud GPU (Preemptible instances) FOR A MONTH
Ah, for anyone else having the issue with not being able to create buckets due to a naming conflict I think I found the problem. I am pretty sure that it was my bad, and that buckets have to have a unique name globally (can't conflict with the name of even anyone else's buckets. I will address this soon, along with an update to provision a boinc instance, so that should be pretty neat.

Metallus97 reacted to Rybo in Folding@Home Babysitter
It probably does take more than 10 minutes before the babysitter kicks in. It goes like this:
FAH finishes a WU
FAH requests a WU - server doesn't have one
FAH waits 30 seconds
FAH request a WU - server doesn't have one
FAH waits 1 minute
FAH requests a WU - server doesn't have one
FAH waits 2 minutes
<a few iterations later>
FAH waits 11 minutes
babysitter sees that the wait time increased too much and resets the slot
FAH waits 30 seconds
FAH requests a WU...<etc>
So it essentially takes as long as each iteration takes before it decides to start waiting over 10 minutes. I haven't paid close enough attention to the wait time intervals, but I wouldn't be surprised if the total wait time until it starts waiting for over 10 minutes adds up to a bit over 10 minutes

A bit of an advice of what you are doing here for the 3.2 part
You are enabling AMDGPU support for legacy GPU's who primarly use the radeon driver, the amdgpu driver is builtin at least from the last 3 years on the major distros and the only AMD GPU's that will use it are Southern Islands (SI) GPU's and Sea Islands (CIK) GPU's, and what you wrote was enabling support ONLY for CIK gpu's, you actually have to put this
Southern Islands (SI): radeon.si_support=0 amdgpu.si_support=1 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon_HD_7000_series)
Sea Islands (CIK): radeon.cik_support=0 amdgpu.cik_support=1 (as you correctly wrote, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon_Rx_200_series)
This is not needed for new gen AMD GPU's

Metallus97 reacted to Electronics Wizardy in Best free OS for nas on tight budget
Lots of myths spread by some people on the forums, and some misguided theories. Devs have corrected this. ECC is always good to have, but won't be any worse with ZFS compared to anouther filesystem. All modern systems use ram as a disk cache for reads and writes, so if a error happens when its in the cache the system will have no idea about that error.
-
Metallus97 reacted to Electronics Wizardy in Best free OS for nas on tight budget
Its not any worse than any other filesystem without ecc
Ecc won't affect you with freenas anymore than anyother filesystem.
What drives do you have? ZFS doesn't like mixed drives that much
Make backups so you don't lose data.
Unraid and other oses have the same risks if your not using ecc.

Metallus97 got a reaction from TrainFan475 in Best free OS for nas on tight budget
Yeha ZFS without ECC ehhhhh...
How about OpenMediaVault. I have never used it but it seems ok.
But yeha in that case I recommend spending a few bucks and getting unraid. In my experience this ruins the best on old HW without ecc. That is also what I am doing for my VM/NAS/Docker server!

Metallus97 reacted to Jurrunio in F@H, BOINC etc. power usage
Nvidia GPUs have working power monitoring for the entire card, 1060 for example is rated to pull 120w at stock and you'll see it do exactly that on a reference card (custom cards can have different power limits). Of course this does not take idle due to not getting work (e.g. F@H's current situation) into account.
CPU and AMD GPUs are harder to measure as their power monitoring arent accurate and only takes the CPU/GPU itself into consideration, but you can estimate with package power * 1.2x
