Direct Media Interface. Faster GPU link basically. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Media_Interface

SSD's are pretty robust. That's perfectly fine unless you're getting into a case tossing competition.

xitywampas reacted to WoodenMarker in Is this legitimately the worst mount?
It's fine. You could leave it unmounted if you really wanted to and slip it between the 3.5" drive cage and one of the side panels.

xitywampas reacted to Oshino Shinobu in Is this legitimately the worst mount?
You could just let it dangle. It would actually be safer than having it half-secure mounted as if something puts pressure on the drive, it could break the housing. SSDs have no moving parts, so just setting them dangle or mounting them loosely is fine.

I left my SSD at the bottom of the 5.5" bay, not even taped since the power cables are pushing it in.

    Appreciate that.

    Damn it.. 250W

The 970 is a better option. I just barely saw it.
I had no clue about it.
NOW i think i will sell my GTX 960 and buy the 970.

xitywampas reacted to aisle9 in How to get heat sink off when it's glued on by thermal adhesive to cpu
Glued on? What type of PC do you have?

If it's an Intel socket with the CPU underneath the latch, you can twist the cooler around a little bit until it gives. If it's an AMD CPU, twisting it will jack up the pins. Your best bet there is to turn the PC back on with the side panel removed, run something like Handbrake for a few minutes to heat things up, then power down and go for the sink while it's still toasty.

Threadripper won't be better in single core performance. It's just 2 Ryzen chips welded into 1 piece

However, X299 is clearly worse. It is just so darn expensive.

SLI doesn't help that (Better to leave it off with two cards), and ASIC hardware is much better for that also (I think you mean general Crypto mining of Zcash, Eth, ect )

Bragging rights, 144 hz 4K or 8K would really be it.

xitywampas reacted to Drak3 in Why are all cpus built with cores all at the same speed?
OP's talking about big.LITTLE x86, and having just a big and just a LITTLE variant as well as the big.LITTLE.
x86 chips can adjust their dynamic clocks to meet any and every power constraint they need, as well as to match load and thermals. ARM's big.LITTLE cores are static clocks that can't change, so having low performance cores that consume little power, and high performance cores that suck it down, and switching between them is necessary.
Also, note than on an octocore Snapdragon, only 4 cores can be used at any given time, same with hexacore SD chips, only 4 can actually be used at once. In contrast, every core that can be used on an x86 chip, will be used.
So much this. Dynamic clocking, the exact reason big.LITTLE is worthless on x86.

Try restarting into the BIOS then just shutting down from there. Then remove all power for 10 seconds. Then start windows and then do a shutdown.
I agree.. Never install a BIOS from the OS use a USB stick doing it in the BIOS or with dos based installer. You may want to update it again using one of those methods.

if yes then use a computer with optical drive and email yourself the bios on the disc as website may have generic version

If you have changed the SATA then change disk and port you're plugged into. If that doesn't help and shutdown is all the issue then its windows most likely. Have you tried letting it sit, i mean give it a hour or two?

This just makes no sense... how did you even come up with this list?
Don't have space -> get bigger desk
hm... does this trick work on other things too?  Perhaps if I don't have money, I should spend a lot more of it.
There are plenty of reasons to not get a laptop if you don't need a laptop.  For example, alternate peripherals and display, display not built in, standard, non-proprietary components, generally lower cost... I could go on.
I don't even understand how those statements go together.
So if you don't want a huge PC or a laptop, you should just get a console?
I thought the point of PC was getting to choose what we all like but I guess not.
That may be true, but small form factor PCs aren't even one of them
