  1. Thanks everyone! I think I will go for the 144hz, I mean i know that 1440p is awesome and in most of the cases better, but I just scare away from it because I feel like I would be at a disadvantage in FPS games and I am fairly competitive! Hopefully with next build ill be getting 4k 120hz!:D
  2. Thanks for your response guys! @pwn_intended I agree that the extra pixels outside of gaming are awesome addition! Unfortunately I do not really play any strategy games, besides Warcraft 3! So I am still kind of undecided As for the FPS goes, i usually reach the highest ranks, but I really have no idea if I'd see difference in the higher refresh rate, but ton of people do! @RiPin Any particular reason why would you prefer 1440p over the 1080p 144hz? Also there might be some 1440p 120hz, but they are still outside my price range this year! @historicalpoultry I was also thinking of future, as I will keep my build for at least next 2,5 years. Thats why I decided to get a new monitor this year instead of holding on for 1440p 144hz next year as I would have to drop even more settings next year to get 100+ fps on 1080. Any particular reason for IPS over TN? I am currently using TN panel and I cannot complain, and I also heard that most of the IPS panels have higher response time! Another fact is that while currently I mostly play FPS games, in the past I mostly played MMOs and MOBAs, so my primary game genre can change any time.
  3. Hello everyone! I recently finished my build (Gainward gtx 1080 glh, 6700k, 250gb evo, 16gb 3000mhz ram) and now I am planning to buy a monitor. I have my finances planned, and I found out that all I can right now is 1080p 144hz or 1440p 60hz. Saving for 1440p 144hz is not an option, as after this I am saving for my summer vacation. I know this has been asked ton of times, but none of the older threads gave me a response that would satisfy me. The thing is, I never used 144hz monitor or true native 1440p (only tried in DSR, it looked awesome even with the bluriness!), so I cannot really decide by myself. I play all kinds of games, but I mostly just run through SP games and I spend most of my time playing online games (CSGO,BF1,H1Z1,OW, some mmos from time to time, mobas from time to time). I think i prefer extra pixels as much as high refresh rate, but when I had my older build i dropped my settings every single time to have at least steady 70 frames, so I guess that would point me towards the 144hz. So the question is, which one do you think I should pick/would you pick? The 1440p would be 27" and 1080p 24". Adding strawpoll for people that are too lazy to write, but id really appreciate if you could at least vote! Thanks everyone http://www.strawpoll.me/11860287
  4. I guess ill just hope the ram works later! And thanks for the CPU cooler suggestion! I checked some reviews and the difference indeed is very big! I will see how much spare cash I will have and if I do, i will surely prioritize the cooler over the ssd upgrade!
  5. Thank you for your reply! 1. the MSI carbon is 50 usd more than the tomahawk i mentioned above, is there any other benefit than the theme to that motherboard? As I mentioned above, I do not utilize most of the modern features, only thing that matters for me is the performance 2. I didnt write down the whole name, but the gtx 1080 is acx 3.0, full name is EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC GAMING ACX 3.0, 8GB GDDR5X 4. Unfortunately I do not have another 100 usd to invest into ram atm, but would there be any performance decline or problems if i bought another 2x8gb vengeance at same speed? 5.As of the SSD, since most of you guys recommend 250gb, ill consider it. I will decide when i will be ordering the PC based on the extra cash I will have. CPU cooler - Can anyone else recommend the Scythe Fuma? Will I need it? If I overclock later, I will not push the cpu to its limit, I'd go for like 4,5ghz oc.
  6. Thanks for your replies guys! I had to cut some corners to make this build happen, another month of waiting would kill me. I decided to cut the corners on s340, because I could not find any reason why not to, I know that the case affects cooling capabilities, but I have no plants to do any high overclock and I do not think the space should be the issue either? H440 is currently twice the price of s340 in my country. Another part of this cutting corners was the ssd. I currently have agility3 128gb listed above. I have my OS, some software programs and few old MMOs that need to load fast, other games are on my 1tb hdd. I just felt like 250gb would be unnecessary luxury, the loading speed in most modern games doesnt matter anyways. and from the research I have done ssd does not affect the performance of the game. But I might be wrong. I could definitely find another 20 bucks to upgrade to 250gb, but if the only benefit are loading times, I do not think its worth it. As for the motherboard, I could not find any other with LEDs, but maybe the site doesn't have it listed? Gigabyte and ASUS boards that are available for the same price are - ASUS Z170-P - GIGABYTE Z170-HD3P - GIGABYTE Z170-Gaming K3 - GIGABYTE Z170M-D3H - ASUS Z170M-PLUS - GIGABYTE Z170-D3H Does any of them have LEDs too? As for ram ill definitely go for the corsair vengeance, as all of you guys recommended it! CPU coolers - I am really grateful for the suggestions, I could not find any other than cryorig and outdated posts about 212. Should I pick the Pure rock or Shadow rock? PSU - Super Flower Leadex 650w is not available in my country As for the Fractal Design Define S, it surely looks awesome and I thought about Fractal Design cases. But I decided against them, because they are horribly overpriced in my country. Cheapest Define S is 115 usd whereas the s340 is 70 usd.
  7. Hello everyone! I will be buying a new rig mid next month. The reasoning behind this is that I will be getting a gtx 1080, and if there is a chance for 1080ti release in january I want to have the option to upgrade with evga step up. It's not my first pc that I am building, but its the first one with budget this high. I am still unsure about come components, so i figured I'd ask here, as most of you guys deal with those kind of questions daily. I am located in Czech republic, so the prices are a bit higher here, however items with same MSRP as the items I list should cost the same here. The build will be mainly used for gaming and streaming. ATM i run 2 1080p 60hz monitors and 1080p TV. I plan to upgrade 1 monitor to 1440p 144hz early next year. I game on my main monitor only. Case - I decided to go with NXZT S340. The reasoning behind this is that it looks cool, is cheap, as reviewers rate it positively. Mobo - Here I have my doubts, I do not plan to overclock, however I want to have the opportunity later on. I know there are more expensive motherboards with better features, but none of them appeal to me, I do not plan to SLI, I dont really need ultra fast SSDs etc. The 2 options i considered are: MSI Z170A TOMAHAWK - Reasoning behind this one are the LEDs, at least thats how it is advertised. It also has lower failure rate, and slightly better features than the later option. MSI Z170-A PRO - The black would fit the theme of my case better, however it does not have any LEDs and it has worse features. CPU - 6700k - I have done my research, I know the 6600k is better bang for the buck and they are almost equal in gaming, but I decided to go with 6700k anyways. I think the biggest factor in here is that I plan to stream from time to time, and if I spend that kind of money for my build, I want to have no regrets of buying "only" i5. I was also briefly considering 5820k, but the fact that I would have to overclock straight away to reach the 6700k was the killer for me. Also in all the benchmarks I checked, the 5820k was performing worse than 6700k. GPU - EVGA GTX 1080 SC - if the 1080Ti comes this jan, I will step up to it. Why not 1070? Because I want to upgrade to 1440p 144hz next year. I am not buying FTW version because I would use white LED anyways, it has higher TDP and I am not planning to do any hardcore overclocking. Storage - regular 2tb HDD, and 128gb ssd. Right now I am leaning towards ADATA XPG SX930. Second option was 750 evo. But based on userbenchamrks SX930 is faster. Also the ADATA has 5 year warranty vs samsungs 3 year. Only thing i hate about it are the looks. Why is it so god damn ugly Fans - NZXT RF-FN142-RB, 140mm - They are white and fit my theme! Should I care more about the fans or are those fine? RAM - starting with 16 gb, later upgrading to 32gb ( I do realize 32gb is overkill, but why not?) However here I change my mind every second. Currently I am deciding between those: Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 2x8gb 2666mhz ADATA XPG Z1 2x8gb 2800mhz Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 2x8gb 3000mhz Is the jump from 2666mhz to 3000mhz worth it? PSU - Seasonic S12II-620 - Currently using it in my build. Done my research again and at this price tag couldn't find any better. "Downgraded" to this psu from corsair 650w, and it fixed my coil whine. Got nothing to complain about. CPU cooler - My biggest issue currently. Cryorig H7 is not available in the store from where I buy. Deciding between 212 evo and i32. Searched for bechmarks that would have both of those coolers in same test, found only 1. where i32 outperformed 212 evo by 0,5°C. The idle temperatures favored evo, but the i32 is semi-passive cooler and does not spin at lower temperatures. Will this affect lifespan of my cpu? I will also consider any CPU coolers around the 212 price tag! If someone is interested in my current build, its stock 2500k, 4x4gb 2133 hyperx ram, sapphire hd 7950 boost, ocz agility 128gb, 1tb hdd, seasonic s12ii-620 and arctic freezer cooler, cannot recall which one anymore. I'll be giving this PC to my gf as soon as I upgrade.
