  1. antiX, It did work pretty well on a 2003 Acer TravelMate 800 laptop with a Pentium M 1.6GHz, 512mb ram, Mobility Radeon 9000
  2. It was pretty common to accidentally crush the die back when CPU's didn't have a heatspeaders.
  3. I'd recommend a quad core. For a short time I hosted my Minecraft server on a Core2 Duo E8400 system with 8gb of ram and it run at 100% usage when there was like 40-50 players. That amount of players wasn't a problem for my dual Xeon E5420 server with 32gb of ram. That was back in 2013 so I don't know how different it is nowadays. For small amount of players the E8500 shouldn't be too bad. I first started my server in 2012 on a Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz PGA478 system with 2gb of DDR1 memory and it was able to run server with 15 players and about 35 plugins without too much lag.
  4. 17" CRT monitor from 1992. It has a max resolution of 1280x1024@60Hz (5:4) or 1024x768@75Hz (4:3). Sadly it has some problems with red color. It would have cost $1500 back in the day, in todays money that would be $2700.
  5. Definitely use a CRT for older consoles. I have a 32" Widescreen Sony Trinitron (KV-32FX68E) for my PS2 and OG Xbox (and PS3 & X360). Everything looks a lot better on it than on a LCD TV. For PS1 and another PS2 I have a 28" 4:3 Philips.
  6. AMD FX-9590 is one of the best CPU's for heating and for GPU's I'd recommend 4-way SLI GTX 480 or 580. If you want more heat, then overclock the CPU and GPU's. You might need a pretty good PSU and CPU cooler.
  7. CPU and motherboard are from 2010, so 8 years old. I bought my PC second hand back in 2013 and I've upgraded pretty much all parts but it's still a X58 LGA1366 system. Some upgrade history: I don't see any reason to upgrade anything else than the GPU (GTX 960 2gb) and probably the ram (16GB).
  8. For purely gaming i7-4790 is probably better but for video editing etc. the Xeon is better when overclocked to 4+ Ghz.
  9. X5690 have the highest clocks but HP Z600 doesn't support those. X5675 is the best one that works on it. I've heard some people have been able to overclock on a HP Z600 with SetFSB
  10. That's completely normal. Currently I have my X5670 @ 4.32GHz and it shows it right in CPU-Z and RealTemp but in Cinebench R15 it shows 3.96GHz.
  11. At least on HP Z400's it will disable hyper threading if you reset the settings.
  12. Most likely it doesn't support the i5-2500K. Xeon E3-1225 is the same as i5-2400 so it isn't that much slower than the 2500k.
  13. Yes, but it's not the best server for that because single core performance is pretty bad on those old Opterons. I used to host a Minecraft server on a PowerEdge 2950 with 2x Xeon E5420 and 32gb of ram. It was able to run 50 players on a server with about 50 plugins without any problems, though that was back in 2013. Best Opteron for that server has a bit slower single core performance than the E5420 but it has 2 more cores. What CPUs the one on ebay have?
  14. It's probably just a bad unit. 700W should be way more than enough for it
  15. What games you want to play on it? Geforce4 MX440 was really bad even when it was released back in 2002.
  16. 1280x1024 is 5:4 not 4:3. Maybe you could get a used 20" 1600x1200 4:3 monitor? For example HP LP2065 is a pretty good old higher end monitor, I have the smaller 19" 5:4 (1280x1024 with VA panel) version and it does look a lot better than even new TN panels. There is two versions of the LP2065, IPS and VA. Dell UltraSharp 2007FP is also a really good 4:3 monitor. There is both IPS and VA versions of it.
  17. 980 Ti is a big upgrade from the GTX 1050. What are your other specs?
  18. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T60 from 2007 or 2008 and it still works just fine. I've never had any problems with my current Dell Latitude E6430 (from 2012) either.
  19. Same. HTC Desire Z was a really nice phone, though it didn't have as good keyboard as Nokia E7.
  20. Most likely server board wouldn't support the i7-920 because it wasn't meant to work in servers.
  21. I don't remember any Nokia like that, but I do remember these. I've never seen one in person so I don't know how hard it is to type text messages. Nokia 7280 Nokia 7380 And there was also this phone in the same series, Nokia 7370.
  22. That's really high voltage for DDR4. I'd recommend keeping it at less than 1.4v
