Joe_MacDougall got a reaction from wisent in 7.1.4 soundcard for PC (Atmos)
Pretty much this. Welcome to the form by the way.

Joe_MacDougall got a reaction from Windows9 in Issues with Windows 10 Activation
Thank you. I just wanted to make sure that was the issue. I formatted my old HDD boot drive and cloned it to my new SSD so I thought I was screwed
I do still have the old mobo tho but I'd rather not have to throw that old potato back together.

Joe_MacDougall reacted to Electronics Wizardy in internal vs external HDD's speeds?
There is more than that. USB isn't that efficent of a protocol, and there is overhead and will slow it down. Still performs about the same as hdds are slow.

Joe_MacDougall reacted to Falconevo in What slot is this? (Rather old motherboard)
The white ports are PCI ports, yes you can put a graphics card in them but it will not be powerful by any stretch of the imagination.. You will be going back to the cards of 8-10 years ago.
The black ports, they are ISA ports. Sorry a GPU in here would be of next to no use either.

They got replaced by PCI ports for additional performance, PCI got replaced by AGP for graphics cards and then later on AGP was replaced by PCI-E and since then PCI has slowly started to be binned off.

RIP. haha
I'm quite a fan of both too. One is considerably more affordable but one doesn't become obsolete nearly as quickly.

Joe_MacDougall reacted to ycetea in Should i go with a i5 4440 pc??
Should i pare it with a AMD Radeon RX 470 4GB Single Fan Triple X - XFX for 125 euro's??? i think i'll do that

Joe_MacDougall reacted to SteveGrabowski0 in Should i go with a i5 4440 pc??
That's a really good deal, especially in that Silverstone case. With an RX 470 that should be an awesome 1080p gaming rig and an absolute steal for 420 euro total. Just the case costs $109 in the US and it's really well reviewed.

Sorry what about the Noctua NH C14S, I know this maybe a little more money than wanted to spend however Noctua air coolers are very good.

Joe_MacDougall got a reaction from SirYanthon in internal vs external HDD's speeds?
SATA 3 caps out at 600MB/s and USB 3.0 caps out at 640MB/s. Hard drives never get anywhere close to those limits so in theory it shouldn't make a difference.

Joe_MacDougall reacted to Mira Yurizaki in internal vs external HDD's speeds?
As long as you're using USB 3.0, there's almost no perceptible performance hit. I occasionally run games off my external drive because I don't have enough in my SSD or I only wanted to play it for a bit for some reason or another.
Just as a fun bit though, you can play GTA V on a hard drive attached via gigabit ethernet.

Joe_MacDougall got a reaction from Osandakj in Do keyboards that work similar to analog controllers exist?
They do exist. But they are very hard to find and are probably very expensive.

Joe_MacDougall got a reaction from Techstorm970 in build on a budget
You've really made the most of a tight budget. However you can get legit copies of Windows 10 from G2A or Kinguin and if you use their guarantee you won't get scammed. That can bring the price down to like $35.
I would try and buy a CPU, RAM and motherboard used if you can to save more money. I would also try everything you can to move to Intel because I've been stuck on AMD for 4 years and it's not that good for gaming. (At least until we see how Ryzen turns out.)

Joe_MacDougall got a reaction from c0d0ps in Buy 1070 or wait?
For what you use it for currently the R9 280X will probably last you a while. I'm still on a GTX 760 and Athlon 760K.
You basically use yours for the same workload I use mine for.

Joe_MacDougall got a reaction from mcraftax in General and indiscriminate retention of data banned in EU
Shame the UK will no longer be part of the EU. If our MPs stop ass-fucking each other and get it over with.
To be honest this policy is quite out of character for the EU.

Joe_MacDougall reacted to Omon_Ra in Mouse for FPS
Mice and weight is more about personal preference. The extra weight can ruin accuracy for some, but others improve it. Accuracy is more of a function of muscle memory and repetition, not so much hardware.

Joe_MacDougall got a reaction from Murilo_A in First Build Questions
There is no point in getting RAM that fast as your motherboard will cap it at 2133MHz. It will work though.
I would just get a GTX 1080 if you can afford 2 RX 480s.
You could then drop the PSU to 600W if you get 1 GTX 1080.
You can't overclock with that motherboard. You need a Z170 chipset board.

Joe_MacDougall got a reaction from Murilo_A in Windows won't boot after changing regedit
I wouldn't think I regedit would prevent you entering the BIOS...
-
Joe_MacDougall reacted to Mr.Meerkat in Why PSUs are better at 220V?
It's due to current. Lower voltage=higher current required to achieve the same amount of power and same goes for higher voltage=lower current required to achieve the same amount of power.
For example, voltage isn't the thing that kills people most of the time but current is, which can be seen by how there's more fatal accidents in countries that uses 100-120V compared to countries that uses 220-250V.

Joe_MacDougall reacted to App4that in Buy 1070 or wait?
Wait, even if you end up with a 1070 AMD launching the Vega architecture and therefore competing in the mid to high end market will drop prices.

Joe_MacDougall reacted to Drak3 in AMD have released a tool which converts Nvidia's CUDA code to portable C++ code which works on both Nvidia and AMD cards!
I agree. Splitting the company doesn't really work either. They just assume two monopolies that don't interfere with each other and often act as one company anyways.
