genexis_x got a reaction from cj09beira in Asus Caught Being Malicious - Zephyrus G15 has fan vents blocked by black paper. Reason Unknown
Knew about this topic earlier and I have no interest discussing it. Anyway, what I could say is Asus doing Asus things again - they don't have interest in AMD products it seems (G14 is the only exception). See what they have done to the previous G15/GA502 as well. I've never seen such bad Zephyrus model before (the only Zephyrus with mainly plastic construction). Not to forget their AMD GPUs drama. In the end, they made AMD look bad for consumers/potential buyers.

Give whatever engineering reasons like improve VRM temps (which makes little sense since it shares same heatsink with CPU&GPU), lower outer chassis temp etc, they are just BS excuses IMO. CPU&GPU temps are far more important. Have you seen other gaming laptops having entirely blocked fan intakes? No.

Whether Intel paid/bribed them or not, I have no idea. Maybe Asus really aren't interested in AMD products. But this model could be make a lot better (add 1 more heatpipe, use 2060 80+W GPU). Fun fact: The smaller G14 actually cools better than this bigger G15.

Undervolt ≠ Lower temp. To lower down temp, you need to lower down power draw. Undervolted but remain the same power draw will not gain any significant temp decrease

I would suggest starting from -100mv

    Yes it will work

Is the current 4GB soldered? I would prefer 16GB but if it's soldered then 12 is the max for you

DDR4 SODIMM only runs 1.2V, no other value.

Build quality / chassis rigidity, copper for cooling

If you're shopping for a thin and light 17 inch with decent specs, I would suggest Tongfang GM7M-P aka Eluktronics Max-17. Able to cool a 115W 2070.
Mediocre model with poor build quality and cooling

You've heard correct. The XPS models are banned in our IT department due to the high downtime they always cause. The issues are most certainly there.

    https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/97464/intel-core-i7-7820hk-processor-8m-cache-up-to-3-90-ghz.html

The 7820HK has a 45W TDP rating. What are your turbo power limits set to in the TPL window? Your CPU is being limited to 50W. PL2 is the short term power limit so this is either set to 50W in the TPL window or Dell has set this limit internally. Some Dell laptops enforce these power limits and there is nothing you can do about it. Dell usually sets the long term power limit equal to the TDP so this might be set to 45W in the TPL window or internally.

Try using the FIVR - Disable and Lock Turbo Power Limits feature. It appears that you have already installed the RwDrv.sys file into your ThrottleStop folder.

Your voltage is set to Adaptive. Not sure why you have the voltage slider set to 0.2197 Volts. Drag that voltage slider all the way to the left. It should say Default for core and cache.

genexis_x reacted to Jurrunio in i7 7700hq turbo all cores on 3.8ghz?
because 3.8GHz is single core turbo, not all core. That's a limitation by Intel, going past it means overclocking which this CPU doesnt support.

genexis_x reacted to 5x5 in New DELL XPS charge 130W over USB-C?
Probably a customized solution from Dell. Though considering the other issues, the new power rating is the least of the problems with the new Dell XPS models. I really hope Dell finally redesign these devices and improve them next year. The design is ancient the problems too many.

genexis_x reacted to doomsriker in Thoughts on Alienware M15 refresh?
I would avoid the whole alienware line. They have a history of building their stuff with very little focus on cooling design which leads to thermal throttling of components and performance problems. Please do yourself a favor and ovoid alienware computers. Linus talks about alienware as well as some other brands to look out for as well as price to performance in this video.

G14 actually cools slightly better than G15, even if G15 is modded (removing papers blocking the intake vents). Only get G15 if you need a low ms 240Hz panel
