Hi, I'm looking for advise on laptop selection…

Can you continue discussion in PM?

advised a forumer that FA506 has poor cooling,…

True, but I still don't like the single heatpipe on the CPU - indicating they had cut cost.
  3. advised a forumer that FA506 has poor cooling, but didn't listen and bought it, nvm

That's very odd...I've never seen the chassis be damaged out of box unless the mail delivery kicked it

      QC issue perhaps?

I'm more suspicious of the delivery service tbh, something big is hard to miss.

@Jurrunio Cooling in most latest Dell gaming laptops is a joke @dizmo This laptop has the worst cooling among all 2020 gaming laptops. Period
  7. A G5 15 SE failed in stress test in a review lol. System shut down when GPU is under load.

Oh, a buyer managed to get 100C+98C in their unit.

@TopHatProductions115 I dont think G5 qualifies as high performance laptop anymore, it's a silicon torture device

  8. MSI GP65/75 9th gen: x2 M.2 slots

MSI engineers: Well we are going to cut down to x1 M.2 in GP65/75 10th gen, for no reason

  9. When manufacturer decide to offer a more expensive 2080MQ 80W option when there is a cheaper yet faster 2070 115W option...

  10. Let's talk about MSI latest gaming laptops today: Their low end line (eg GF, Bravo) are mediocre. Cooling is poor, build quality feels cheap. Mid range line (GL,GP) is decent, but could be a bit cheaper IMO. High end line (eg GE66,GS66) are expensive but doesn't offer any advantages over competitors - some even with cheaper price. For example, in GE66, thermals and build quality are nothing special. GS66 build also has room for improvement. GT is desktop replacement so I'll skip that.

Also, hinge issue has been troubling their gaming laptops for some time. MSI's QC and aftersales are just OK, a bit below average I would say. TBH I would pick something else over MSI gaming laptops, as their laptops aren't that competitive IMO, partly due to price.

Things to improve one GL/GP series: Build quality (rigidity), cooling (put bigger fans please)

@genexis_x that is a good question. i hope they will, but i honestly can't guarantee anything. these are like, really high up people though, c-level executives, so it's probably your best chance.

    3. LienusLateTips

      LienusLateTips

the good thing about MSI is that most of their c-level executives came from within the company, many from the r&d department, so they know what they're doing, whether they fuck up a product or make a good one

    4. genexis_x

      genexis_x

GF, Bravo: Cooling is poor, build quality feels cheap (if possible delete this lineup, use GL series as minimum)

GL/GP 10th gen: Build quality (rigidity), cooling (put bigger fans+exhaust vents)

GE66: Add 1 more heatpipe to CPU

GS66: Use 90W or higher GPUs, instead of 80W. No plastic sides please

      @LienusLateTips My feedback above

  11. That's why I wanted the Legion 5 AMD with 80Wh battery.

Impossible unless idling. Maybe Renoir APUs with 99Wh battery? Idk Edit: I don't consider ARM equipped laptops as "laptops".

Oh. Their upgradeable parts are meant for current gen only. Better use soldered parts IMO, no difference.
  14. Will not recommend non gaming laptops with small battery from now on. Must be at least 45Wh (my standard).

What if it's efficient enough to make the battery last longer than 24 hours? Do ARM based laptops count?

Better hope the ARM-based MacBooks don't pull any surprises :P Not saying that I'm a fan of them, but I can see them possibly pulling off a feat like this...

    ???

    10750H, 1660Ti, 8GB, 512GB (SK Hynix BC511 NVMe), 144Hz high sRGB 8GB is generous. You haven't see a 2060 laptop with 4GB RAM.

The new Clevo has AM4 socket. Ampere Geforce cards haven't launched.

What are the specs ? But oof a single stick of 8GB of RAM is not enough for a Gaming Laptop.

Excuses, excuses. Some models from other brands…

@Jurrunio The new Omen with Ryzen 4000 cools decently. Only things that I don't like are the keyboard layout, max 70Wh battery and the price
