  1. First taste of pcmasterrace by genexis_x - AMD Ryzen 5 5600, GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR - PCPartPicker
Finally, I have my own desktop PC after so many years of waiting and planning. Kudos to my friend who helped me a lot on the building.

Hopefully this PC can serve me for a long time😀

Well that's just life, but the end result looks good.

1440p 144 IPS for rm800 is pretty good

Last I've seen was around 1400 cheapest brand new, one year ago

Wow, 1440p 144hz IPS monitors have really dropped in price in recent years, last time i looked at them it was 700+ bucks, now you can get one for under 300 bucks, and 4k 144hz is 700. Insane.

  5. Great to see many laptop manufacturers stepped up their game in their gaming laptops (particularly offering max TGP and MUX), however at the same time I'm disappointed to see many of them are using louder fan noise in order to compensate the extra heat. When compared among all mainstream models, a popular model from L brand (you should be able to guess which laptop) is still the benchmark in terms of thermals, and the updated 2022 model even has slightly lower fan noise and surface temps under full load.

Still, I think the market now is more competitive compared to 2021 and it comes down to who can offer a great price.

  6. Dell is still dumb in 2022. G15 5511/5515 gaming laptop previously had a second M.2 slot but without a proper enclosure to install SSD (buy separately). This gen G15 5520 instead of making it a proper second M.2, they decided to remove the M.2 connector completely. Only single storage in a >2.5kg >25mm gaming laptop, WTF?

  8. While I do like the concept of liquid cooling in gaming laptops, IMO it is not practical at all. Who want to carry gaming laptop alongside with extra weight of an eGPU? Don't forget the weight of the power brick. If the laptop always sits at 1 place, might as well buy a desktop.

Also this kind of mod is not something new. In China people have been doing these water cooling mods since years ago. Eg you can also find similar mod for Legion 5 Pro in taobao.

  9. Disappointed that the Zephyrus G14 2022 cools worse than 2021 model (higher temps at same 115W total power with max fans). Maybe Asus should think twice before putting high thermal density CPU+GPU into such a small chassis. They could made it to pair with 80-100W Nvidia GPU just like the RB14...

  10. Which one would u choose in your laptop?

-CPU that scales greatly at lower power levels but poorly at higher power levels

Depends on use case. For gaming, video editing, or workstation stuff I'd choose the latter. For non-intensive usage I'd pick the former.

Edit: though that assumes that those are the only 2 choices. AMD mobile APUs are low power but can scale very well to high performance.

Prefer low power scaling over high power scaling. High power scaling is meaningless if the cooling is inadequate or if on battery.

It's a 1080p low settings or 720p medium settings kind of APU. If that's okay with you then go for it. Otherwise a 6600M or even a 6500M thin and light laptop still have a place.

My Opinion on Rembrandt vs ADL in laptops: -AMD…

In most cases dynamic boost can be engaged while gaming regardless of Intel or AMD (usually from 45w CPU power to 30w), however RTX 30 refresh is allowing +25w DB instead of +15w like previously (which means CPU power from 45w to 20w, but can be higher like 60w to 35w depending on the model). We knew that ADL doesn't scale well at lower wattages so it might affect a little, but from a few reviews so far the gaming perf doesn't seem to be affected much. What I noticed so far is no Gear 1 selection is definitely hurting gaming perf due to high memory latency (around 100ms according to Aida64 benchmark)
  14. My Opinion on Rembrandt vs ADL in laptops:

-AMD still offers cheaper price, which is the main factor of many buyers
-Regular laptop / Ultrabook market: AMD will crush Intel in efficiency, iGPU, multi core performance - you can argue that Intel offers better stability but their new products don't have the same stability as the old ones. Thunderbolt? How many % of users will actually utilize it?

-Gaming laptop market: Intel has an advantage in performance but as mentioned, AMD offers lower price (yes, AMD+DDR5 will still be cheaper than Intel+DDR4 bcoz RAM supply in OEM market is less of an issue). To many the performance of Rembrandt is sufficient

Conclusion? The situation will be similar to 2021. I think AMD will still have slightly more sales.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't dynamic boost typically higher for the GPU in ryzen laptops? That will probably cause intel to fall behind a bit in the new wave of 16" 1600p laptops due to less GPU performance on the table.

I'm not exactly sure what the market is looking like, but I've been steering people to those options if they have the budget as they've been proving themselves in feature set and performance

I'm so tempted to get a 3070 legion 5 pro if I see them at the $1300-$1400 range again

  16. you don't have to, sometimes it makes matter worse power? clock speed? there's more to temp alone the only way to know whether ur unit is normal is to do a detailed thermal test not really true what's the ambient temp? how much clearance under the laptop coz some cooling pads made airflow worse
  17. sounds like a kb related prob to me not gpu either loose cable or broken kb
  18. use max fan with legionfancontrol or legionzone fans die faster is better than cpu/gpu die faster

It's been a while since i posted something in forum. Been inactive for these past few weeks since I found my first job and was quite busy. Not sure what is happening in laptop subforum but if anyone wanted to help out with gaming laptop recommendations, here is a tier list for your reference: Gaming Laptop Tier List (2021) - Google Sheets

    Stay safe and healthy everyone!
