That's how I see it. AMD beats out nvidia, great. Does so with twice the power, not great. Sorry AMD but until you can beat nvidia in both performance and power usage, I'm staying with green team

I really don't know how to feel about this. They gotta be dipshit retarded to think they have any competition with these corporations that they conspire with to ensure that they monopolize areas. I feel bad for the suits at the helm of the public ever gets a hold of them

should be minimum 10/5, and all upload should be half of the download. tired of these really messed up asymetric connections where the download is decent but upload is next to nothing.

rockking1379 got a reaction from RobbieEschete in Getting into Programming
depending on your goal, depends on the platform. if you wanna work with DirectX, then get windows and learn C# or C++ (the windows version, not the same as linux). if you wanna learn how to work with openGL then you can learn java or C++, maybe C#. as one of the early commentors said, many will start down the road of programming but few stay on it. find a good book to get started with. java is pretty easy to conceptually understand and can be ran on several platforms relatively easily. C++...yeah that has some differences between Linux, Mac, and Windows. not sure exact difference but C++ written on linux usually wont compile on Windows and vice versa. have fun getting started. personally i enjoy it a lot

    HyperVisor with following VMs
Windows Server 2009 R2 for Space Engineers Ubuntu Web Server Ubuntu Database Server Debian Xen Orchestra for managing Xen Server Ubuntu Minecraft Server Host pfSense virtual router for NATing the VMs from the single connection that the college i attend has allowed me to use it works well for me. granted it isnt in my "house" per se but i live on campus year round so close enough. web server runs my owncloud and plex. space engineers is driving me nuts with not being accessible for whatever reason.

rockking1379 got a reaction from Vitalius in Linux distro for a home server
If you are afraid of command line DO NOT use ubuntu server. That said, ram usage is lower when using only command line. GUI takes up resources. Anyway, I personally run a virtualizer and have one pfsense vm, one 08R2 vm and ten the other four vms are ubuntu server or Debian. I think one is Debian but oh well. I am pretty comfortable with command line though at this point. My laptop runs linux mint and I find that very nice as well. Cinnamon isn't terrible on resources. I mean my laptop only has 2GB of ram and with Firefox running ten or fifteen tabs I use <1GB that said plex can use up some ram but I find is also very CPU intensive. My vms run virtual router, xen web manager, web server, plex, databases, space engineers is on windows, minecraft although those may be getting shutdown with Microsoft looking to buy mojang. 4GB of ram may cut it close with plex. My plex vm has 4GB and was stuttering a bit today while my daughter watched a movie.

rockking1379 got a reaction from jetbuster in Programming is not easy, Whats the biggest project you've committed to?
alright so my biggest project is actually one i still work on. the uni i am attending needed new software for the mailroom to manage and track packages on campus. so far their database of info has roughly 25 thousand packages and the system is only 15 months old. not UPS or FedEx scale here but to me that is a good amount of data to be handling. currently i am working on rewriting some aspects of the software that were either poorly written or not generic enough to allow future expansion easily. its written in java which isnt my favorite language but it allows me to quickly develop and deploy on multiple platforms easily.

Following his series is not a bad idea. C# to java, very very similar. There are comparisons between the two languages. Each has it's pros and cons. I'm in uni and they teach java. But I preferred C# before starting here. Not saying it's changed just now I don't care what language it is. I just wanna write code

rockking1379 got a reaction from dlf in Netflix is now paying Time Warner Cable for direct access and faster streams
the first step was netflix paying anyone at all. sure their customers are suffering from streams constantly buffering but quite frankly they should be telling them to call up their ISPs and ask why a 10Mbps connection cant stream an HD video whos rate is less than 25% of that amount. we as consumers should be seriously asking our ISPs why they oversell by such vast margins. sure not everyone everywhere will always use their bandwidth 100% but they have oversold by such a large amount than if anyone dares to use their connection fully it will inadvertently effect everyone connected to that hub. not to mention many of them are implementing data caps because heaven forbid you actually use the connection for anything more than a dozen emails and two orders on amazon. it might actually do something to their network they didnt expect to happen.

I vote for just reclassify them and be done. But big communication companies are paying his ass off and I bet his precious little girl needs some great procedure he can't afford on government salary alone so he needs that extra cash to afford it. Alright that was a little low but fuck him and his rules that will just set him up for more failure. Can we kick him out of chair? Is that allowed?
